Chapter 6 : A Man Called Damon Salvatore
The rained poured as his sea blue eyes blinked in anxiously as he glanced at the water that pattered on the glass door of his therapist's office. The therapist was busy making notes in that stupid black book Damon hated. Apart of him wanted to rip it out his hands and read what he had written for the past month about it. Its probably nothing he didn't already thought about himself. Selfish. A pig. Narcissistic. Cheater.
"So you mentioned lately you've been thinking about Bonnie?" the therapist said interrupting Damon's thoughts. He nodded. "Any particular reason?"
"She's with the Prime Minister. She's lost her mind. This is clearly a cry for help. I'm genuinely worried about her. She doesn't even like politics...why would she get involved with a corrupt politician. What the fuck is wrong with her?!" he yelled. His therapist stared at him in silence.
"or maybe you're...jealous she has moved on from being a mistress. You do remember you didn't tell her you had a wife. Bonnie is old enough to make decisions with her love life" she said. Damon laughed "Bonnie is just a silly naive girl who falls for anything. I can guarantee you she's being manipulated"
"And is that what you did? Manipulate her?"
"Nooo! I LOVED HER...it just never felt like closure. After she found out about Elena she just stop talking to me and moved to Camden apparently. Guess I'm lucky she didn't tell Elena" he said.
Bonnie rubbed her necklace as she stared into the distance. Caroline dragged her to a French restaurant on Charlotte street. She was busy ordering wine and food while Bonnie randomly thought about Damon and Klaus and what the fuck she was doing.
"Pretty necklace!" Caroline said. Bonnie smiled "Thanks. Klaus gave it to me. Care...is it me or is everything moving fast an maybe too much...maybe doing too much. I met the Queen...Camille...she told me about my image. I don't want to embarrass myself nor Klaus" Bonnie panicked. Caroline laughed "So you met Cami...yeah she wants me to introduce you to Vera...the stylist. She's probably worried about you...especially if this gets serious". Bonnie eyes widen and Caroline squeezed her hands.
"I suck. I know nothing about politics. I'll embarrass myself" Bonnie said.
" You'll be fine. I'll make sure you read every book and get every fashion tip. So what else did you and the Queen talk about? Her once dating Klaus?" Caroline chuckled. Bonnie froze and stared at her. "Oh...well she probably didn't want to freak you out". Bonnie gulped "They dated? For how long? And when? And why didn't he tell me he literally dated the Queen? Isn't that weird?"
"When they were like 16 or 17 then they just moved apart. It's no big deal. He probably doesn't want to talk about it" Caroline said sipping her wine. Bonnie nodded but couldn't stop thinking about it.
Over the next few days Klaus and her didn't see each other. They mostly texted. He was mostly busy with the private investigation into one of his cabinet members. He didn't want to tell Bonnie what he had done which made her frown. She kept replaying Caroline telling her about him and Camille.
Klaus sipped his tea as he walked along side Caroline who read the information she found on Bart Feifer; Secretary of State for Housing and Communities.
"Aren't you worried this may back fire? This will eventually becoming public" Caroline asked. Klaus smiled "NOPE. It's better this way than some journalist finding out and putting it in the media. I will not be blamed for Bart's for actions" he said as he walked into the office of the Commissioner. Madelyn Fry and her office was in charge of undertaking investigations on Parliament members. He presented the folder to her, she briefly went through it before looking up at him "You want to go after Feifer? He's like royalty...he's been here before you"
"Well he's a monster and I want him out. I regret selecting someone like him but I knew that was his area of expertise but I can't look at him knowing this stuff"
She pressed her lips "There's alot bad men in Parliament Mr. Prime Minister. I enjoy investigating them but none has ever been removed...a slap on the wrist and they are back at work the next day. You know the Baby of the House?"
"Uh the Brent East girl...Lib Dems representative..what's wrong with her?" He asked.
She stared at him blankly "She has a name ..Elizabeth yeah she was raped by a Member of Parliament at a Halloween party in October. I investigated...did her more harm to her than justice. She gets strange looks and a couple of threats. She's fucking 24 and is trying to be a role model for her community"
Klaus stared at her, he had no idea he wondered who it was but the commissioner wasn't allowed to disclose anymore.
Two days later at the office of Department for Housing and Communities, Feifer's secretary ran down the hall to his office, she got a few looks and saw some whispers. She guessed everyone knew. She burst into her boss's office.
"Ah ..I was just on the phone planning a quick holiday with the family" Feifer said. His secretary wore a tight smile "Yeah...you may want to...cancel that"
He frowned "Margot what's wrong?"
"Um the commissioner is requesting phone records, house planning applications, building projects documents everything honestly"
"Why ?"
"You're being investigated for fraud and exchanging housing for sex ...well according to the papers you signed Housing agreements for women if they had sex with your...High society friends"
He stared at her " That is ridiculous! Who did this?"
"So a friend of a friend from the Commissioner office said its the Prime Minister"
"That little shit! I know exactly what this is about. He wants war. I'll give him war" he yelled.
Friday after work Bonnie had her cousin Lucy from Brixton come to her place and do her nails. Lucy teased her about Klaus, Bonnie blushed and laughed.
"I don't care what anyone says, I'm happy for you" Lucy said adding the nail polish to her acrylic.
"So people are talking?" Bonnie said raising her eyebrow.
"Remember Lisa that worked at that makeup store you liked? Well she said you're a sell out cause you didn't want to date her brother"
Bonnie laughed so hard "Fuck her...she wants me to be with her struggle brother! He has two baby mamas ..those white girls from Essex with the heavy tans. I would never!"
Lucy laughed so hard she almost fell off the couch "What are you doing this evening? I thought we can go to the pub watch alittle football, get some drinks and wings"
"As much as that sounds like an amazing plan I have something up my sleeve" Bonnie said smiling.
Later that night Bonnie twirled around in her blue dress, she gently slid the lipstick across her lips and smiled. The cab driver dropped her on the corner of Smithereens Street and she made her way on the sidewalk to The Nutmeg Club. She met a dashing tall man with a stern face at the door who was flipping through pages.
"Hi um I'm here to see Klaus Mikaelson?" Bonnie asked. The man ignored her and Bonnie frowned. She repeated herself. He looked up at her "I heard you. Do you have an invitation? This place is exclusively for Parliamentarians and their guests. The Prime Minister didn't mention anyone coming to see him here this evening nor does he ever have a guest here"
"It's a surprise from a ...a girlfriend...I even got dressed up. Unless there's strippers in there and this is some big boy's code. I could deal with strippers" Bonnie said chuckling.
"You seem like a lovely girl but I can't let you in. It's the rules"
Bonnie bite her bottom lip and frowned. "BONNIE!" a familiar voice said out loud, as he walked out the door to approach her.
"Hey...George...What are you doing here? You were invited here?" Bonnie asked hugging him.
"Uh a client invited me ...for a drink" He smiled.
"Oh God ...I hope it's not that...guy" Bonnie whispered.
"No way. A completely different matter. What brings you here?"
"I'm trying to see Klaus. Its semi-important or I'm just overthinking" Bonnie said smiling slightly.
"Phil..you know the Prime Minister won't be pleased if he heard Bonnie Bennett came all this way and was rejected" George said smirking. He pressed his lips and exhaled "Rules are rules"
"If anything happens, I'll take the blame" George negotiated. Phil looked between him and Bonnie's hopeful face. He rolled his eyes and stepped aside Bonnie squealed and squeezed George's arm. He led her inside the restaurant and hang out spot, Bonnie's eyes gazed around at men drinking and watching the game while the women were chatting and eating. George explained the history of the Nutmeg Club. "He mostly hangs out up those stairs...with his four mates. Never changes that company. I'll be here" George said smiling. Bonnie nervously made her way up the stairs, she could hear his laughter and his friends talking. She could smell his cigarettes.
"Here comes trouble for you, mate" One of his friends whispered when he saw Bonnie standing by the staircase. Klaus looked immediately at her. He got up and walked towards her, she couldn't tell if he was upset or happy. Now she was starting to regret doing this.
"Hi..." she exhaled with a smile.
"Hi..are you alright?" he asked. Bonnie nodded "I just want to see you..surprise you..I know you've been busy and annoyed at everyone"
He smiled slightly "A bit unorthodox but I'm glad to see you. Do you want a drink?"
"Oh ...I don't want to impose...with your friends" she said glancing behind him. He stared at her "What's wrong? You seem flustered"
Bonnie pressed her lips "Uh...I don't...why didn't you tell me you dated Camille. She invited me for tea..not sure if that was a bitch move or whether she purposely kept that quiet" she fold her arms and swallowed the lump in her throat. He stared at her in silence "And you never told me about Damon"
Bonnie almost choked when she said his name. The name she didn't want to hear again "Wasn't something I felt like talking about..now...How did you know?
"I do background work on everyone in my life. I wasn't ready to talk about Camille either" he smiled. He offered to take her out for a drink so they can talk some more.
He took her to one of his favourite spots in the centre of the city, she order herself a vodka and ale with a side of cheesy chips. She was nervous she hated talking about Damon and he didn't really care to talk about Camille but since it bothered her he decided to share.
Bonnie met Damon during her time at the University in the city, she took Literature as a minor and Damon was the Professor . It started off friendly. She was one of his favourite students. She always participated and gave opinions no one else did. Then one night they bump into each other at Enzo's venue. He went to see a local band, Bonnie was just there with Caroline for the drinks. They exchanged numbers and things gradually blossomed. She was in love but things crumbled when she found out he was married. His wife was a nurse who had jobs and at the time she was working in the North. Bonnie was depressed for months after it happened.
Klaus sipped his Whiskey and nodded "You dated your professor? How scandalous"
Bonnie rolled her eyes and laughed slightly "Not really my proudest moment. So you and Camille huh?"
"She's not as bad as you think. Not sure what her intentions were for inviting you. We were teenagers. It was a long time ago. Her mother died and everything changed she went back to her family and I moved on. She wasn't too please about me in this position but it is what is"
Bonnie nodded and took a bite out of a cheesy chip. She was relieved. She hadn't talked about Damon in over a year. She heard his wife and him were having a baby and she heard he had resigned and taken a job at Oxford University instead. The couple were rudely interrupted by Klaus phone. While he was on the phone, Bonnie ordered a cocktail instead and scrolled through her Instagram.
Bonnie looked up at him after he hung up the phone, she was puzzled. He was staring at her.
"Uh did someone die?" She asked.
"No. We were expecting the President of your former country at a later date but it seems he will be here sooner to discuss some stuff. I want you to come with me ...and I may need your help" he said smirking. Bonnie stared at him puzzled.
