Reynolds House

June 18, 2015

Sometimes there were days when Olivia just wanted to go to sleep and never wake up.

Those were the days when someone asked about her injury and/or what happened to her. Her name was everywhere back on the East coast, and they ran far West to get away from it.

An awkward silence filled the air as Olivia sat there trying to think up a pleasant response.

'None of your fuc-'

No. Too violent.

'I broke i-'

No. The response would be 'how.' The goal of the mission was to avoid explanations.

Olivia cleared her throat and strained out an "I fell down the stairs" excuse.

Everyone knew it was a lie. Everyone saw it in her body language, but Anthony didn't understand the lack of comfort in her body and kept prodding.

"How did you do that?"

'I literally was avoiding the 'how' question, you stupid mother-'

"Maybe I was pushed, maybe I was doing laundry. I don't remember," Olivia bit out, trying to maintain her emotions. She paused for a bit and glanced at the handheld. Time to change tactics, "Have you played the new Resident Evil game yet? I heard it's killer on the PSP."

Anthony's eyes lit up and showed her his screen, "Dude, playing it right now. It's pretty freaking good."

Olivia let a grin overtake her face. "But we all know that Resident Evil 2, the remake, was the best one. It was just impeccable," the brunette gave a chef's kiss to add an emphasis. Anthony looked at her with a grimace.

"Sure, I mean it's not terrible, but it doesn't defeat the original remake from 2002-"

"You weren't even thought of in 2002!"

"Neither were you!"

Olivia and Anthony continued their argument about the Resident Evil franchise. At the same time, the parents in the room looked at each other in relief. Sam looked a little confused and out of place as she pulled out her phone to respond to her own friends.

...

"Just give us a call when the boxes come, Ed. We'd love to come to help out," Daniel LaRusso smiled at Ed as they sat in the backyard, "I'll never forget the day Ma and I moved from across country. The LaRusso's are always just a phone call, or knock, away."

Sam and Amanda went home to fix dinner, having invited the Reynolds. Anthony and Olivia were in the living room on their Switch's, arguing and playing games together.

Edward smiled at the other man, "Thanks, Danny. We'll be sure to do that. Lord knows we have no eye for anything between the two of us." With a sigh, his grin faded a little into a sad smile. "With Sarah gone, we've lost our eyes" he paused for a moment.

"And common sense."

"I'm sorry for your loss," Daniel replied in honesty, having felt for the family. He knew what it was like to lose a parent.

Edward waved his hand at him, "Oh, oh no! My Sarah isn't dead. Her unit had an emergency deployment and headed to the SandBox a month ago with the 59th Aviation Troop." Edward looked through the window to see Olivia and Anthony having fun." She reaches her 20 next year, so we were planning on getting out and moving."

He debated what to tell his new neighbors about their situation for a moment. Ed hesitated for a moment before looking back to LaRusso.

"Look, my Olivia. She has been through some things this past year," the mustached man said slowly, "she lost her confidence in herself, in others. She's very...defeated."

Daniel took a glance at the injured girl playing with his son. He could see the panic, the defeat, the pain. There was something more than just 'falling down the stairs' and her mom's sudden deployment. He remembered that feeling.

"Yeah, I know the feeling."

West Valley High

"Your fractures have fractures. Even those fractures have fractures. It's going to take a while to heal properly."

"But what about-"

Olivia was woken up out of her daydream by someone hitting her shoulder, causing her to stumble to catch herself.

"Oops, sorry, Cripple," the blonde smirked her way as she turned around, "maybe you shouldn't stand in the way." With a toss of her hair, the she-devil and her gang turned away and walked into the school.

Reynolds' left hand gripped her bookbag with anger as she hurriedly walked into the school, 'how'd that song go? Conceal, don't feel...' All the brunette could think about was making her mother proud and not starting fights.

She didn't need people knowing her name.

'Be a ghost, be a ghost, Casper the Friendly Ghost, that's me.'

As she was walking, she bumped into a taller boy with dark hair and fell onto her butt, 'shit, do I have to be the friend-'

"Ouch! Watch where you're going, I break easily. Do you know what kind of people break easiest? Tall people like me!"

'Oh God, Casper the Friendly Ghost...please help me.'

Olivia let out a breath as she pulled herself up and narrowed her eyes at him, "Hey, I'm the one that fell down. Not you, Mount Everest." She wiped off her butt and hands from whatever disgusting particles were on the floor, "You should watch where you step. You might step on me."

The offender shifted his backpack higher on his shoulders and crossed his arms, "yeah, well maybe if you didn't have your eyes closed while walking, which by the way-"

The brunette narrowed her eyes. She shifted her eyes to the side and took a breath.

And walked off to find out where her first class was. She didn't have time for this nonsense.

Demetri rolled his eyes and turned to his friend, "Gosh, the first day of high school really does suck, huh Eli?"

Eli took another glance at the figure who just ran into his friend and nodded in response to Demetri, 'yeah, something like that.'

...

'Lockers are so dumb. I'll just keep all my books in my bag. There's no reason to have to keep going back and forth.' Olivia thought, annoyed. Her schedule did not intersect with her locker at all.

'Such a waste of time.'

As she turned around, she noticed the blonde from earlier standing there with a cruel smirk on her face. "Awe, is the cripple unable to open her locker?" She asked with mocking sympathy, "why don't I help you?"

Olivia rolled her eyes and started to walk away, only to have her path cut off by a taller male, "Hey, we're only here to help," he snickered as he forced her to go back to where the blonde was. Olivia shut her eyes and took a calm breath as she realized being a ghost would be impossible.

The tunnel vision had started as soon as she realized she was surrounded, and her heartbeat was already increasing dramatically.

"L-look, I'm just-"

"I-I-I don't care," the blonde stuttered mockingly. "Pathetic. Crippled, can't speak properly, no manners..." she looked down at the brunette's body slowly. She shook her head in disbelief, "no fashion sense either."

In disbelief, the Charlestonian looked down at her old converse, jeans, and Harry Potter shirt.

'Fashion? This is literally a proper outfit. That's such a dumb statement.' As she opened her mouth to speak again, she was shoved into the lockers, her right arm hitting the metal. Olivia grunted in pain and curled in on herself to stop the pain running up her arm.

"Oops, sorry, cripple. Didn't know you were slow too."

The mean girl again flipped her hair, her little gang following her down the hallway laughing.

'I seriously thought this only happened in movies. Who flips their hair?' Olivia grumbled to herself as she collected her bearings and walked to her first class, 'God, havingEnglish first is going to suck major ass.'

Lost in her thoughts once more, she bumped into the same tall guy as before, 'shit, that's dumb, twice in one hour.'

"Oh, good grief," she muttered. She looked up and stared at the other guy with matching expressions of annoyance, "l-look. I'm sorry, Everest."

The black hair boy raised his eyebrows at her apology.

"Are you in English with Ms. Passerello too?"

The brunette nodded, her heart still pumping fast from the previous interactions, and played with the bands on her backpack, "Y-yeah, I am."

"I heard she's a total pushover, so we'll be fine. What else do you have?" He started talking to her as they both made way to sit next to each other. She pulled out her schedule and handed it to her classmate.

"Oh cool, hold on," the tall kid pulled out his phone and pulled up a schedule after pulling out his folded-up schedule from his pocket. "Looks like we share three classes. My mate Eli is in one of those, and... you guys also have three classes together."

Olivia nodded her head as she took back her schedule, "I-I'm Olivia, by the way." She went to reach out her right hand before realizing the level of use and taking it back.

The other kid snorted and replied, "Demetri. Nice to meet you. I like your shirt, by the way." He nodded to her shirt, "What house are you in?"

As she opened her mouth to respond, the teacher began class. Olivia found herself with a small smile as she took notes for the rest of the period.

...

Demetri and Olivia walked together to their next class of Geometry, where they sat together once again. While walking to their third class before lunch, Demetri talked to Olivia about his thoughts on Dumbledoor's morals. The girl from South Carolina mostly just nodded and smiled, occasionally making a face when she disagreed.

"...even after he had been warned by Minerva that they are the 'very worst sort of Muggle'! He- Oh, hey Eli!" Demetri stopped his rant when he noticed his friend waiting on him in front of Mr. Naas' classroom.

He waved an arm at the girl next to him, "Eli, this is Olivia. Olivia, Eli." He walked over to Eli and put an arm around his shoulders, "Eli and I here have been best friends since elementary school." Eli smiled lightly and waved over at the girl.

"H-hey, it's nice to meet you," the short male stuck out his hand for a handshake. The girl in front of him smiled and stuck out her left hand. They shared an awkward handshake while Demetri rolled his eyes.

"Her right arm is in a cast, genius. Come on, we'll miss a good row if we're too late." He herded the two introverts into the computer room as the two made eye contact. Eli whispered an apology, and Olivia only waved it away.

"Magical protection, my ass! He was-"

Maybe two friends weren't a bad idea.
