It was Demetri who ended the kiss as he stepped back and looked at the girl.
"Olivia?"
The young Reynolds was confused; didn't he like her? Moon said the signs were there...
There was an awkward silence between the two. It was suffocating, thick like molasses. Something had changed, and Olivia feared it would leave another scar.
"I-I uh I," the brunette had no idea what to say. It was apparent now that she had read the air wrong and caused a massive drama storm.
Demitri scratched that back of his neck as he looked at the girl nervously, "uh uh. Listen, you're pretty... and smart-"
"Oh God," groaned Olivia as she threw her hands over her face.
"B-but, that was like kissing my sister- a-and that's not something I'm into."
"Kill me," whispered the brunette as her face burned with embarrassment. "Please, end this."
"I know that I am heavily attractive to many females, l-like yourself," the lanky teen continued, gesturing to her. "B-but, you are not my, uh, type."
Nodding his head resolutely, Demetri shifted on his feet awkwardly, "so...yeah."
Olivia took a deep breath and allowed the awkward to seep into her pores before she let it out shakily. Closing her eyes and counting to ten, the brunette opened her mouth to try to explain herself.
"Demetri, I-I don't know how to explain myself..."
The teen held his hands up in defense, "You don't have to! I heard that this is common in the South... but not here out West."
"What the fuck, Demetri," laughed Olivia as she smacked his arm. "I meant...God." She rubbed her face again, "Moon said you had a crush on me, okay? So I was afraid I was messing with your feelings or something, so I thought I'd...do something, I guess."
Demitri shrugged and then nodded, "yeah, no, you're just not my type. I'm looking for a tall blonde who gives me attitude... Not a short hobbit."
Tearing up and chuckling, the brunette gave a light punch to the boy's arm, who whined in fake pain, "You're such a loser."
"I'm not the one who kissed their brother."
"Shut up, Everest."
"Never. Freedom of Spe- ow! Stop hitting me!"
...
The next day, Olivia received a FaceTime request from her newly established brother.
"Hey, Demi wha- What happened?!"
"Karate happened, Olivia!" Sitting up straight on her bed, she listened to the boy's story of how he was assaulted by an old man at the Cobra Kai dojo. "That's assault, and Eli didn't even care!"
"What do you mean?" asked the brunette with furrowed brows.
"I mean that he told me to 'stop being a bitch' and that 'snitches get stitches.' How many times does a guy have to rhyme to stop being such a jerk!?"
Olivia got up to sit in her computer chair, setting the photo so that it sat up on its own. Logging into her computer, she googled the dojo. "Mr. Lawrence never told me about a new sensei to update the site with..."
"Well, he was there! Inaccurate snake tattoos and everything!" exclaimed her friend.
"Hmmm," Olivia thought about what to do. She didn't like getting the police involved; her name spread like wildfire back East. She didn't need it here either.
"What if we just left a bad review on Yelp," the brunette suggested as she logged in to her account. "With the reviews, they'd have to change something. Right?"
Demitri nodded in agreement.
"Or at least prevent any others from entering a painful situation created by that psychopath."
Olivia shook her head with a snort.
"Snitches get stitches... who the fuck says that anymore?"
"Apparently angsty teens in their peacock phase," grumbled the black hair boy. Pointing at his face, "I already have stitches, V. Many stitches!"
Olivia had to shove a hand over her mouth to stop the giggles.
"A-are you seriously laughing at me!? This is serious, you troll!"
"I-I know, I-I just... can't take you seriously sometimes when you say things like that."
"Like what?!"
"...Anyways, my dad got in this morning and wants to go to some weird beach club party with the LaRusso's. Can you come to help me pass boredom?"
Demitri shook his head and pointed at his nose. "I don't think so. I'm staying inside until this baby heals. I am not risking another break in my body."
"Yeah, yeah, you traitor," Olivia dismissed her friend. "I'll call you when I get home, alright? Maybe if it's not too late, we can play some games."
Nodding his head in agreement, the two ended the call with name-calling and goodbyes.
Now, time to socialize.
...
While Olivia Reynolds was never friends with Samantha LaRusso, that didn't mean she never talked to the girl. You don't have to like a person to be kind.
The brunettes met up with each other and gave small smiles. Sam was about to introduce Robby when Olivia mentioned the meeting months ago.
"We were going to go lay by the pool if you want to join us," offered Sam as she gestured towards the lounge chairs. "Not much else to do."
The brunette glanced at her father sitting with Daniel LaRusso and some other guy as they spoke over beers. Shaking her head, she politely denied the invite.
"I burn easily, so I'm probably just going to go inside." Olivia really wished for the youngest LaRusso at this time. He would always bring his Switch, and they would sneak inside to play. Soon other young kids would join the pair in their online battles.
But since the kid was away for the summer, she was left alone to fight the battle of socialization.
As she wandered through the party and nibbled on some snacks, Olivia ran into Aisha and a new girl.
"Oh, hey Olivia!" said Aisha with a smile. "This is Tory; the newest Cobra."
With a warm smile, the brunette held out a hand and shook the new girl's hand, "Hi, I'm Olivia. It's nice to meet you."
"Tory," replied the blonde, returning the smile. Tory glanced at Aisha, who nodded. "Hey, we were about to go have something to drink; you down?"
Olivia glanced around as Tory pulled the Vodka bottle out slightly. Her dad was with a group of dads having fun, and Sam looked worried with Robby. She shrugged and agreed.
"But we can't just drink that shit bare; I'll go grab some cokes," replied Olivia helpfully. She gave directions to the corner where she and Anthony would hide their video game battles. "I'll meet you guys over there?"
"Sure thing," chirped Tory with a grin as she and Aisha walked away. In reality, Olivia didn't really want to drink at all. The brunette was just ensuring the girls would drink safely and had someone to advocate if they drank too much.
She walked up to the bar and asked for four cans of coke and some cups. Thanking the bartender, she made her way over to the girls. The three mixed their Vodka and cokes, with Olivia without the Vodka, and chatted over the small stuff.
...
Olivia walked behind the buzzed girls as they leaned on each other and giggled over Aisha's story of the infamous front wedgie. She couldn't help but wince at the memory.
"Hey!" called out a familiar voice. The three turned towards Sam LaRusso, who had a severe face. "My mom's missing her wallet."
Olivia frowned, "oh, man. That sucks. Do you need help finding it?" She asked, ready to help once the girls got to their ride safely.
Sam looked pointedly at Tory, "you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?"
Olivia frowned deeper, "are you... accusing Tory of stealing your mom's wallet, LaRusso?"
The other brunette only glanced at Olivia before returning her harsh stare on the bikini-clad teen, "are you freaking kidding me?"
"Just give me the wallet, and I won't call security."
"Listen, I didn't rob your mom, bitch."
Olivia took a step forward, trying to get between the two girls. "H-hey guys, let's cool down. It's hot out here for everyone..."
Tory rolled her eyes and turned around, "let's get out of here."
Just as Olivia was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Sam grabbed Tory, who shoved the offender into the table. There were gasps around the vicinity, and Olivia went to help the girl, who only shoved her off.
Standing back in shock and hurt, Olivia told the girl, "you shouldn't accuse people like that, LaRusso. You'll piss off the wrong people." The smaller girl took one last disapproving glance at her neighbor and headed off to ensure Tory and Aisha were okay.
...
"I invited Johnny over for dinner tonight," commented Edward as he drove him and his daughter back home. She had been relatively quiet in the car on the way home. "Is that alright with you?"
Olivia only nodded and continued looking out the window as the houses sped by.
"Everything alright, pumpkin?" her dad asked with concern and a glance over. "Do you need anything?"
With a sigh, Olivia responded, "no, I'm okay. Everything just feels...weird."
"Well, kiddo, that's a part of growing up," the mustached-dad commented as he turned into the driveway. Patting the steering wheel, he continued, "life gets shitty, and things change. But then it gets good...but things still change."
The two unbuckled, climbed out of the front, and headed to the house. Edward caught up with his daughter and put an arm around her shoulders, "change is the only thing that you're promised in life, cupcake. So, you can either accept it...or let it rule your life."
Olivia stayed quiet as she pondered the message. Her dad opened the front door, and she went in, quickly heading to her room. She called the boy she promised and told him what had happened. After talking for a while, Demetri hesitated.
"What?"
"What do you mean, what?" inquired Demetri as he shifted the phone to his left ear from his right.
Narrowing her eyes, Olivia pointed out, "you hesitated. You want to say something. Spill."
"I just," the teen boy sighed in defeat. "Could you give me a ride in the morning?"
"Sure, where to?" She opened her bottle of water and took a sip.
"Miyagi-Do."
Olivia choked.
...
Edward Reynolds, Olivia Reynolds, and Johnny Lawrence sat at the dinner table eating chicken and rice. Edward and Johnny shared memories of the '80s, and Olivia just laughed as the two older men enjoyed reminiscing on the past.
"No, no, for real, though. We pull up at the concert and the Cat-"
"No fucking way, man, you got to meet the Cat-"
"Uh, yes fucking way, man. He's like, 'hey mate, got a dollar?'"
Johnny took a sip of his beer and shook his head with a laugh. "Holy shit, man, that's insane."
Edward nodded his head, "oh don't I know it. And then my girlfriend-"
"Was she hot?"
The man with a mustache nodded excitedly, "Hell yeah, total babe." He put his hands up like he was holding tennis balls, "had these-"
Olivia took that as her cue to scoot her chair back, "aaand that's my stage direction to exit the table." Ed winced and gave his daughter a sheepish smile, "sorry, pumpkin."
The young teen only shook her head and dismissed the apology. "I'm going to head upstairs and let y'all two kids continue your conversation without my ears present. Enjoy your glory days, old men." She quickly dodged two swipes to her head with a laugh and brought her plate to the kitchen.
After putting her dish in the dishwasher, the young Reynolds headed upstairs and went to bed. Laying down in her bed, she thought about what Demitri had asked earlier.
"I want to learn Karate at Miyagi-Do."
"Why? What happened to calling the cops?"
"Things changed."
With a frown, she snuggled deeper into the pillows, trying to disappear from the world.
'Why do I feel like this is only going to get worse...'
