Olivia sat stewing in anger at the dinner table with her dad and Johnny Lawrence. Instead of lively conversation and laughs, the two males watched the young girl as she stabbed her chicken and violently cut it.
"So, how's-"
"Sensei Lawrence, how're the lessons going? Get to the destruction of property and gang assault chapter, yet?"
"Okay, Olivia. You need to ca-"
"Whatever," grumbled the brunette as she took a violent bite of her food. Johnny only sighed and closed his eyes.
"Look, kid. I had nothing-" Once again, he was cut off with angst.
"You had everything to do with it," the teen responded sharply. "Strike first. No mercy... what did you think would happen?!" Silverware clattered to the table, and her chair screeched back. "I'm done eating."
The brunette left her plate at the table and stomped upstairs to her room.
The two men watched her and waited for the slam. Wincing, Ed sighed and turned to his new friend, "Johnny, I'm so sorry-."
"No, it-it's okay," dismissed Lawrence, as he took a sip of his Coors. "I don't like LaRusso, but I'm not going to let this go on. I don't want to let the past be in the future, Ed."
Edward assured him with a nod and a sip of his own drink. "I know, Johnny. I can see it. It can be tough to move forward with your past shadowing you. Sometimes though, running from the shadow can make ya' tired. And then when you stop...the shadow catches up." The dark-haired man set down the glass. "But if you confront it, you get rid of it. Then, you can stop runnin' and rest."
Johnny snorted into his bottle, "you sound like a fortune cookie from a cheap Chinese restaurant."
"I don't know what damn monster cookies you've been getting to fit all that, but you should give me an address 'cause shit..."
The two dads chuckled and continued their meal in a comfortable conversation. The blond didn't forget about what the other man said.
...
"This shit is heavier than my fucking refrigerator," shrieked Olivia as she fell on her butt. The brunette decided to join in the fun of cleaning the dojo. It was only fair as she enjoyed the beautiful garden and building.
"How'd they even knock it down in the first place?" asked a panting Sam. Olivia just lay on the grass and stared at the clouds.
"It's a lot easier to knock something down than to put something up," Daniel LaRusso replied from behind his daughter. Olivia snorted.
"That came from a fortune cookie."
The adult rolled his eyes and was about to reply when he was interrupted by a group of familiar kids. The lazy brunette just watched from the ground.
"This is one of the guys who beat up Demetri and Olivia!"
"We never actually got beat up, just to be clear!" called out the laying brunette, still not wanting to move. "Everest and I run fast."
Chris shook his head, "we had no part in trashing your dojo." The jacket-wearing kid made eye contact with Demitri and Olivia with sincerity, "but I am sorry for what happened at the mall."
The laying brunette took that as her cue to get up, using Demetri's arm as an unwilling balance beam. It sounded like this conversation would get more serious than she expected. Demetri cautioned his sensei, but Olivia elbowed him in the side to make him quiet.
"What was that for, you stinky troll?!"
"Shhh!"
His analogy was found inaccurate by Mr. LaRusso, and Demitri only looked away in frustration.
"I should have picked a different analogy..."
Olivia could sense the distrust between the two groups of teens. It wouldn't be good if they couldn't get past what had happened over the past few weeks. She couldn't help but wonder what crazy teaching Mr. LaRusso had to develop trust.
...
Later in the day, Olivia found herself saying goodbye to her friends and the newcomers. She had to get to work that evening and was desperate for a shower. When she left, the tension was only growing, and Demetri's level of sass was off the charts.
But she had taken plenty of photos of the teamwork and decided to upload them all onto her social media. She made a separate post dedicated to the friendship between her and Demetri.
...
"He used to be Cobra Kai, Liv!" explained Demetri. After work, she decided to drop in the Alexopoulos household to check on her friend. "He then made this really cool speech about second chances and changing; kinda reminded me of your story from the other night."
Olivia nodded as she took a sip of her water.
"I didn't expect that, but he does realize that there are more than Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do, right?"
The other teen rolled his eyes and pointed at his friend.
"That's not the point. Other dojos aren't trying to corner teens and commit gang assault on their friends!"
"Point taken."
"Anyways, Chris and I went back outside, and I remembered the fulcrum we learned about in physics last year." Demitri continued, using his lanky arms to tell the story. "And, well, we did it! I guess people can change, huh?"
The brunette shook her head, "I was trying to tell you that."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," dismissed Demitri. "Most importantly, this means Eli can change! We could get our friend back, Liv!" The Charlestonian went quiet and didn't respond. Logically, she knew that he could. But her heart hurt so much at the graffiti on the broken seat.
'Desperate Slut's Only'
"Anyway, tomorrow we're going to do some morning kata. Are you going to be there?"
Olivia thought about it for a moment before nodding slowly.
"Yeah, I guess I'll participate. I have to go to Cyber Team practice tomorrow, so I can't stay long."
"I don't really understand why you got a job," commented Dimitri as he sat on his bed. "Your dad is loaded, and you never really buy anything. Sam LaRusso, the daughter of Mr Larusso, drives a convertible. You drive a Honda Civic."
Throwing a pillow at the nerdy teen, Olivia responded, "You don't need expensive things to be happy, Everest."
"Yeah, but I'm gonna be sad no matter what, and I'd rather be sad in a Lamborghini." Demetri threw back the pillow.
"Whatever, the job will help with my resume for college and a job. SAT scores can only do so much." With that said, Olivia forced herself from the familiar comfort of the beanbag chair and groaned. "Well, loser, it's time for me to get home. I gotta stop by the gas station and fill up; it's getting late."
Demitri also stood up, wincing as his bones creaked. "I have bruises in places I never thought would bruise." The brunette snorted and gave a smack on her friend's back. "Alright, Lara Croft, calm down!"
With eye rolls, sarcasm, and brief hugs, the young teen left the household to go to the gas station.
...
The brunette went down the candy aisle, deciding to pick up a sweet treat for her ride home. Olivia squatted to look at the bottom shelf candy and decided on a box of Milk Duds.
As she walked towards the front, she glanced around, and started to get goosebumps over her arms. Olivia decided she was too on edge and got to the counter.
"I'm gonna get this and put the rest on number 3, please." She handed a ten and twenty to the cashier. The older cashier rang up the young girl and gave her a smirk.
"So, where you off to?"
"In your dreams, creep," the teen responded, grabbing her things and walking away.
The door let out a jingle, and she headed back to her car, throwing her candy in the front seat. Olivia hooked up the gas pump to her car. It was a little chilly at night, and she couldn't shake the feeling of someone watching her.
When the pump finally finished, Olivia walked over to her trunk to grab a light jacket. There was a small mirror that she had left in the car, and in it she noticed the figure running towards her. She slammed the trunk closed and tried to turn around.
Olivia's attacker was faster and used their right arm to put her into a chokehold. Prepared, the brunette swung her arms up and grabbed her assaulter's wrists harshly. Quickly spinning out of the hold, the young teen held onto her offender's arm and swung his face into her trunk.
"What the fuck?!" shouted Olivia as she saw that it was a redhead mohawk. Hawk tried to force his way out of the hold, but the brunette shoved his face further into the car. "What the hell are you doing?!"
Hawk sneered and continued struggling in her hold, "trying to finish the job, nerd." The redhead made a quick glance behind the female and shouted, "now!"
Olivia relaxed her hold when she turned quickly, thinking someone was behind her and tensed for an attack. Instead, Hawk pushed back with a yell and punched the girl in the jaw. With a small cry of surprise, Olivia took a step back to run, but the teen boy grabbed her wrist to pull her closer.
The Charlestonian grabbed her hands and used her elbow to break out of the hold and then elbowed the old friend in the throat. She ran off and tried to circle back to her car with him distracted. Just as she was about to open the front door, her ponytail was grabbed, and once again, she cried out in pain.
The door slammed shut, and Hawk tossed the girl up against the body of the car, face forward. He pinned her with his own body, his left hand gripping the brunette's hair and his right hand on the car door.
"Think you can just get away with whatever you want, huh, Reynolds?" he sneered into her ear as she struggled to get some kind of upper hand. "Think you can just join Miyaji-Do and have no consequences!?" Olivia's heart was beating quickly, but her throat wasn't closing up. She could breathe perfectly, but there was weight in her stomach.
'Is it bad that I am a little turned on?!'
"What the hell, man? What's your game?" bit out Olivia, wondering just where all the people were. A well-lit gas station, and here she was, pinned against her car by an angsty teen who had already displayed violent tendencies.
"I wanted you and your pussy boyfriend to take down the reviews," Olivia's eyes furrowed at the hiss. "But now, this is just payback for being a traitor."
"So you decided to assault a girl at a gas station?" the brunette spat with venom. "Who does that!? Oh, I know, psychopaths, Eli. Psychopaths!"
Hawk gave the girl a shove into the car.
"I don't give a shit. No mercy, bitch." Before Hawk could strike his old friend, now enemy, Olivia stomped on his foot and elbowed him in the stomach. As the breath left his lungs, the brunette spun around and gave him a roundhouse kick to the head. Walking over to the now fallen teen, Olivia grabbed him by the collar and brought him to her face.
With heavy breathing, she whispered viciously.
"Leave my friends alone, you pigeon-headed freak. If you come near Demetri or me or any other Miyagi-Do students... your lip isn't the only thing that'll scar your face." Hawk's chain on his pants jingled as he was thrown down onto the ground in shock.
The Charlestonian opened her car door and went to get it. Hawk quickly shoved himself up and shouted, "how long, huh!?" He clenched his fits and looked at her in anger. Olivia just looked at him like he was crazy, "How long what?"
"How long have you been training with those pussies," he spat, taking a step closer. "You said you weren't interested in Karate. You lied to me!"
She shook her head and scoffed, "I never took Karate at Miyaji-Do, birdbrain. Go back and slither under a rock." With trembling hands, Olivia started the Civic and drove off, feeling the after-effects of the adrenaline.
Hawk watched the car leave before letting out a scream and kicking over a trash can. There was no way she hadn't been trained, none. He saw it at the mall, and when he saw the familiar car pull into the gas station, he couldn't help but follow her into the parking lot.
'Fine', he thought. 'If she won't tell me, then I'll figure it out myself.'
...
Once Olivia got home, she had control over her breathing, and she found the strength to text the Miyagi-Do group chat.
Hawk attacked me at a gas station parking lot.
Olivia looked at the message before deleting it. The more people that knew about her skill, the more danger. She couldn't risk telling everyone.
Shakily, Olivia put down her phone and got ready for bed. She and her dad were going on a hike tomorrow, something they hadn't done since middle school. Olivia made sure to text Demitri that she couldn't give him a ride tomorrow and then went to sleep.
