Chapter 3: An Eventful Trip to Hogwarts
I don't own Digimon or Harry Potter
"Alright here we are." Alexander chirped with a smile as he, Daisuke, Veemon and Jun appeared in front of the Burrow one afternoon during the week before the kids would all be going back to Hogwarts for the new term.
"Ugh…don't ever do that again…" Daisuke whined, her eyes turning to swirls while Veemon looked ready to be sick.
Jun giggled at her cousin's reaction. "Yeah, my first time Apparating wasn't fun either." She said sympathetically. Alexander rubbed his daughter's back before they saw Harry, Fred, George, and Ron exiting the house, all of them carrying their broomsticks over their shoulders.
"About time you guys got here. We were beginning to think you weren't going to show up." Fred said.
"And miss the looks on your faces when I leave you all eating my dust?" Daisuke replied, showing them all her new broomstick a Nimbus 2001, it was a tad shorter than Harry's Nimbus 2000, it was sleek and had golden dragon with Daisuke's Crest of Miracles along it with the bristles of the broom having Gryffindor red colouring.
"Whoa!" the Weasleys and Harry said in amazement. Daisuke beamed with pride as she let her friends check out her new broom.
"I'll be back to pick you up in a few hours. Have fun." Alexander told his niece and daughter before he walked off, once he was far enough away, he spun on his heel and vanished with a sharp crack.
"Right. Where's Percy?" Jun asked the twins and Ron.
"Upstairs in his bedroom. I think he's a bit nervous about you visiting. He's been locked up there all day. I think he's trying to clean his room until it's spotless." Fred told her.
Jun rolled her eyes and walked into the Burrow. Fred, George, and Ron all sharing a look. "Jun and Percy sitting in a tree…" George began to sing only to stop as Daisuke and Veemon gave him a glare.
"Remember they're both Prefects. They'll give you detention for the entire school year if you tease them." Daisuke warned the teen. George gulped nervously while the others chuckled and soon the group had made their way to a small paddock the Weasley family owned, it was up a hill nearby and was surrounded by trees meaning they'd be able to practice their Quidditch skills without worrying about being seen.
"Alright let's get started." Ron said, mounting his old broom and taking to the air followed by the others. Daisuke and Veemon mounted Daisuke's broom before flying into the air.
"Wahoo!" Veemon cheered, holding onto his partner's hips as she zipped around the area on her new broom, getting a feel for the speed and handling. Daisuke laughed happily, the wind blowing through her hair as she did a few tricks with her broom before coming to a stop.
"Blimey, that's quick!" Fred shouted in amazement. "I want a go."
"Heck no, let me go first." George said and the twins began bickering over who would ride on Daisuke's broom first while Harry, Ron and Daisuke shared a sigh.
"Come on Harry, let's have a race. I bet you're out of practice after being locked up at your relative's place all summer." Daisuke then said to her friend.
"Yeah. Sounds great." Harry said. Daisuke flew low to the ground allowing Veemon to jump off before she and Harry began to fly around the paddock doing laps.
"First one to do ten laps wins!" Daisuke shouted, speeding ahead of Harry who took off after her. It was neck and neck, both flyers side by side as the wind rushed through their hair, the others watching from the ground in amazement at how fast they were going.
Soon, both flew down to the ground, their feet skimming across the grass before they jumped off their brooms. "Whoa that was great." Harry said with a smile, adjusting his glasses which had almost fallen off during the flight.
"Yeah. You're amazing with your broom, Harry. You kept up the entire time. You're a natural." Daisuke praised her friend who blushed and nodded.
"Alright, enough fun you two. Can I have a turn?" Ron asked Daisuke who giggled and nodded. She handed her broom to the youngest Weasley who cheered before he mounted it and flew into the air.
"I'm next!" Fred and George shouted at the same time.
Soon, the group were heading back to the Burrow once everyone had taken a turn flying on Daisuke's broom. "So, how has Ginny been doing?" Daisuke asked.
"She's fine. Just a bit nervous about starting school. Fred and George told her she might end up in Slytherin as a joke." Ron whispered to her and Harry. "She's been hiding in her room ever since."
"I'll go talk to her, if that's alright." Daisuke said with a small smile. "She might just need someone close to her age to talk to."
Ron nodded in agreement as they entered the Weasley's house and spotted another woman sitting at the table sipping a cup of tea while Mrs Weasley fretted over her torn and tattered robes.
"Molly, I told you before it's nothing. Just a few close calls breaking that curse in the Highlands." She tried to placate the woman.
"Nothing, oh Diana Rogers, I really wish you would be more careful. Charlie's recklessness has rubbed off on you." Mrs Weasley huffed, brushing off soot and dirt from the woman's robes.
"Well breaking curses is a lot more exciting and dangerous than taking care of dragons." The woman replied, pulling her hood off her head revealing short blonde hair that barely reached her shoulders, light green eyes and a thin scar along her left eyebrow that ended at her cheek.
"Diana!" Fred, George, and Ron exclaimed in surprise while Daisuke and Harry stared at the woman who jumped out of her chair.
"Fred, George. Oh, how are my favourite twins?" she asked, hugging Fred and George tightly before she then hugged Ron. "And Ron, my you've grown since I last saw you."
Ron flushed from the hug before the woman stepped back with a smile. "Good to see you, Diana. But what're you doing here?"
"Can't a sister-in-law visit her family? I'm not staying long. Charlie asked me to head over to his work in Romania later. Said something about helping him tame a Hebridean Black that they rescued from poachers earlier in the month." The woman answered.
"Wicked." Fred and George whispered. Daisuke and Harry rolled their eyes at the twin's excitement, count on the twins to say anything dangerous was amazing and brilliant.
Diana then spotted the two non-red-haired children and she smiled. "Ah, where are my manners. Diana Rogers, also known as Cursebreaker, The Hero of Hogwarts, The Clobberer of Curses and so on." She introduced herself.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Daisuke Ainsworth and this is Veemon." Daisuke chirped, holding her Digimon in her arms who waved at the woman.
"I'm Harry Potter." Harry introduced with a shy smile.
"Potter, eh?" Diana asked with a raised eyebrow. "Heard a lot about you. Seems your first year was just as eventful as mine. Hope your second year proves to be more…normal."
"Normal isn't a word used at Hogwarts. When has a year ever been normal?" Fred asked her.
"True. Very true." Diana answered with a chuckle. She glanced at the clock on the wall and cursed under her breath. "Right, best be off. Thank you for the tea, Molly. I'll let Charlie know you're worried about him." She told the woman.
She then nodded to the others. "See you around. Have a good year at Hogwarts." She said before leaving the house and vanishing with a crack as she spun on her heel like Alexander had done earlier.
A few minutes later, Daisuke and Veemon were walking up the stairs to Ginny's room. Once they had found the right door, Daisuke knocked on it a few times. "Ginny, it's Daisuke. May I come in?"
She waited a moment before the door opened a crack and she saw Ginny peeking through at her. "Um…okay." She said softly before opening the door allowing Daisuke and Veemon to walk into her room.
"How are you, Ginny?" Daisuke asked with a smile.
"I'm okay…thanks." She muttered shyly.
Daisuke nodded and sat on the edge of Ginny's bed. "So, how do you feel starting Hogwarts this year? Nervous I bet."
"Um, a little. Fred and George told me to get sorted into Gryffindor I have to fight a troll." Ginny said.
"Of course, they did." Daisuke muttered with a sigh. "Ginny, I promise you. You won't need to fight a troll or anything like that when you get to Hogwarts."
"Here's hoping. My ribs are still sore from last time." Veemon muttered, yelping when his partner slapped him on the head gently.
"That was a one in a million chance of happening. Besides if you recall Quirrell let the troll into the school. Hopefully this year nothing like that will happen." Daisuke said.
"So, it's true. Ron said he, Harry, you and Hermione fought a troll on Halloween and then saved the school from You-Know-Who from coming back." Ginny whispered.
"You mean Voldemort?" Daisuke asked and Ginny gasped, covering her mouth in shock. "Use the name Ginny, fear of the name only increases the fear of the thing itself."
Ginny nodded nervously. "Now then, how about we answer a few questions you may have about the school?" Veemon suggested.
"Great idea. It'll help ease any nerves you have." Daisuke said and Ginny nodded and the three chatted for a while, Daisuke and Veemon telling Ginny about the classes, the houses, and other things about the castle she wanted to know.
While Veemon was telling Ginny a few of his jokes which made her giggle and smile, Daisuke noticed an old black diary on top of Ginny's pile of school books. She didn't know why, but something about that book made her concerned.
"Ginny." She said, grabbing the book as Ginny and Veemon looked at her. "Where did you get this?" she asked.
"Oh, it was in my cauldron. I thought mum or dad bought it for me and forgot to mention it." Ginny answered, tilting her head as she saw Daisuke opening the diary and flicking through the blank pages.
"Something wrong Dai?" Veemon asked her.
Daisuke frowned as she closed the diary "It's nothing." she muttered before looking at Ginny. "Now Ginny, I want you to tell me if anything weird happens with this book. It could have latent magical powers your parents didn't notice. I want you to be careful."
"I will." Ginny said. Daisuke nodded and placed the diary down before she and Veemon walked out of the room with Ginny when they heard Alexander arriving downstairs to pick up his daughter and niece.
"See you guys tomorrow." Daisuke said hugging her friends before she picked up her broom and held it over her shoulder while Veemon held her other hand and they walked out of the house with Alexander and Jun.
"See you." Harry said with a smile and the Ainsworth family disapparated with a crack once they had walked past the gate.
Eventually, the time for fun and games and relaxing at the Burrow came to an end. Now it was September 1st, and the Ainsworth clan were already on Platform Nine and Three Quarters at London's King Cross Station.
"I don't see Harry or Ron anywhere." Daisuke said in worry, standing beside her trolley which had Salem in his carrier while Demi-Veemon sat on her head the Digimon deciding to be in his In-Training form for the train ride so as not to take up too much space.
"I'm sure they'll be here. I doubt Arthur or Molly would be late." Alexander said softly, though as he saw the clock on the wall strike 10:55 he did begin to worry.
"Let's get you on the train and we'll go looking for them." Natsumi said to her daughter. Daisuke nodded and with her parent's help she had all her things loaded onto the train with Jun's stuff already on the train and she had gone to find a few of her other friends while she waited for Percy and the others.
Once their daughter and niece were settled, Alexander and Natsumi headed back to the barrier and walked through quickly. They were relieved when they saw a sea of redheads and one black haired boy hurrying down the platform. "Thank Merlin." Alexander whispered.
"Alexander!" Mr Weasley greeted, as his family and Harry rushed over.
"Good timing, what took you so long?" Alexander asked before Natsumi elbowed him. "Never mind. All of you get through the barrier, Daisuke and Jun are already on the train waiting."
The Weasleys and Harry nodded. "Fred, George, you first!" Mr Weasley shouted to the twins who nodded and rushed towards the barrier. Alexander and Natsumi smiled at Harry and Ron as they walked past and headed to leave the station.
Percy and Ginny then went through the barrier together followed by Mr and Mrs Weasley. Once they were through, Harry and Ron shared a look.
"Let's go." Harry said, pushing his trolley towards the barrier with Ron right behind him, however as they hit the barrier, instead of going through like they had done before, Harry's trolley slammed into the solid brick barrier, and he and Ron crashed into one another.
Both boys laid on the ground, groaning in pain while Hedwig hooted angrily in her cage. "Oi!" a station master shouted, rushing over to the two boys as a crowd of muggles gathered. "What do you two think you're playing at!?"
Harry got to his feet, holding his right forearm. "Sorry, lost control of the trolley." He quickly lied. This seemed to appease the man and the other muggles who went on with their business as if nothing happened, when they had gone, Harry turned to Ron. "Why can't we get through?"
"I don't know…the barrier has sealed itself off somehow." Ron muttered, placing his hand on the solid barrier. Both then turned to the clock when it struck 11:00.
"The train leaves at exactly 11 o'clock, we missed it!" Harry hissed. Looking around, he spotted a small creature hiding behind a trash can before they vanished with a snap of their fingers.
"Harry, if we can't get through…do you think mum and dad will be able to make it back?" Ron asked his friend.
"Maybe…we can wait by the car for them." Harry suggested.
"The car…" Ron muttered, his eyes widening, and he grinned. "Brilliant." He and Harry gathered their things and left the station. They crossed the street towards the Weasley's Ford Anglia but as they did, Alexander and Natsumi who were nearby and about to head back to their house noticed them.
"Boys, what're you doing?" Alexander asked, walking over to them quickly. "Shouldn't you both be on the train by now?"
"Yes Mr Ainsworth, but as we ran towards the barrier, for some reason it wouldn't let us through, and we crashed into it." Ron answered.
"Oh dear, are you boys hurt?" Natsumi asked, looking over them both for injuries.
"We're fine." Harry answered. "Just confused. I think I saw Dobby nearby for a moment before he left."
"That House-Elf who used magic at your relatives house?" Alexander asked and Harry nodded. "Strange…don't worry boys. We'll figure this out. For now, let's apparate to Hogwarts."
"Apparate? That thing you did when you took Dai and Jun to the Burrow last week?" Harry asked.
"Yes. It's a nifty way to travel without a broom or other means that could be vulnerable." Alexander answered. He and his wife led the boys to a secluded alleyway nearby, they checked for any muggles that might be nearby.
"Okay, hold on sweetie. This might seem uncomfortable the first time." Natsumi told Harry, hugging him gently. She gathered his things and had him hold onto Hedwig's cage while Ron felt Alexander place a hand on his shoulder once the Weasley had gathered his things.
The four then vanished in a sharp crack and almost instantly reappeared not far from Hogwarts Castle, the magnificent castle glinting in the sunlight.
Harry's cheeks turned green, and he hunched over, now he understood why Natsumi said it might seem uncomfortable, it had felt like he was being forced through a straw. Natsumi rubbed his back gently. "Just breathe sweetie."
Harry nodded and took several breaths while Ron did the same. "Ugh…not doing that again."
"You'll get used to it. Now come on, let's go inform Albus and Minerva what happened." Alexander told the boys and the four headed for the castle.
Soon, the four walked into the Entrance Hall and saw Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall talking to one another. The latter was the first to notice the four walking towards them. "Alexander, Natsumi, what on earth are you doing here and with Mr Potter and Mr Weasley?" she asked, looking at her two young students, a hint of concern in her eyes.
"Apologies for the surprise visit Minerva, but there was an incident at the platform in London. It sealed itself off, stopping Harry and Ron from getting on the train." Alexander answered.
Professor McGonagall frowned and looked to Dumbledore who also looked concerned. "I shall inform the Ministry; they'll send a team to investigate." He spoke before turning to Professor McGonagall. "For now, Minerva, would it be alright if Mr Potter and Mr Weasley headed up to Gryffindor Tower until the train arrives?"
"Of course, Headmaster." Dumbledore nodded and left the group making his way to his office.
"Minerva, a moment." Alexander said softly as Harry, Ron and Natsumi left and headed up to Gryffindor Tower. "We need to talk."
The witch frowned and nodded and led Alexander away so they could talk in private.
Meanwhile, back on the Hogwarts Express, it was now speeding through the countryside, beginning its long trek towards Hogwarts. Daisuke sat in a compartment with Hermione and Ginny while Salem and Demi-Veemon sat in her lap. "Do you think they made it onto the train?"
"We'd have seen them by now." Salem answered her question, stretching and purring.
"Maybe they're in another compartment further down the train." Hermione suggested.
"Perhaps. I'll go look." Daisuke said. "I'll be right back. Salem, can you stay here?"
"Sure." Salem yawned, stretching, and laying on the seat as Demi-Veemon climbed onto Daisuke's head and the young witch left the compartment and walked off down the train.
She opened one compartment and poked her head in and smiled when she saw Neville, Seamus and Dean sitting there. "Hey guys." She greeted them.
"Hello Daisuke." Neville said with a shy smile. "How was your summer?"
"Well, thank you. What about you?" She asked the three boys who smiled and nodded and gave her short descriptions of what they did over the summer. "That's good. Now have you guys seen Harry or Ron anywhere?"
The three looked at each other and shook their heads. "Nope, sorry. But I'm sure they're on the train." Seamus told her.
"I hope so." Daisuke muttered, thanking them before walking off to continue looking. She opened another compartment door further down the train and saw two blonde haired girls talking to themselves before the eldest of the two noticed Daisuke.
"Hello, Daisuke."
"Hello Daphne." Daisuke greeted the girl. Daphne Greengrass was in the same year as Daisuke, and she was in Slytherin House, but she was not part of Malfoy's group and mostly kept to herself throughout their first year.
Daisuke then looked at the younger girl beside Daphne and smiled. "And who are you?" She asked politely.
"Astoria Greengrass. Daphne's told me so much about you." The young girl chirped with a giggle.
"Nice to meet you." Daisuke said. "Have a good summer?" she then asked the girls.
"We did. Mother and father took us to a cottage by the seaside, it was nice to get out of our manor." Daphne answered. "And yours?"
"Great. I spent most of last week hanging out with Harry and Ron at the Weasleys." Daisuke answered.
"Potter was staying with the Weasleys?" Daphne asked.
"It's kind of hard to explain. Anyway, have you seen either Harry or Ron at all?" Daisuke asked.
"Nope." Astoria chirped, shaking her head. "But if we do, we'll tell them you were looking for them."
Daisuke nodded. "Thank you." She said before she left them alone and continued searching the train, but she couldn't find Ron or Harry anywhere.
"Do you think they missed the train?" Demi-Veemon asked.
"I don't know buddy. We'll have to see if they found another way to school or not." Daisuke answered, walking off back to her compartment where Hermione and Ginny were waiting.
Later that evening, the Hogwarts Express soon reached Hogwarts and all the students were gathering in the Great Hall, awaiting the arrival of the First Years who would be taking the boats with Hagrid.
As Daisuke and Hermione walked into the Great Hall, they spotted Harry and Ron already sitting at the Gryffindor table, both boys clad in their Hogwarts robes, and they rushed over to them. "Where have you two been? We were worried." Hermione told them, hugging them tightly before sitting beside Ron while Daisuke sat beside Harry.
"Long story, we'll tell you later." Ron whispered.
Harry nodded before he looked across at the Hufflepuff table and saw Cedric smiling at him, he flushed and shyly smiled back with a wave.
A few minutes later, the doors to the Great Hall swung open and Professor McGonagall led the First-Year students towards the Sorting Hat. They spotted Ginny near the front of the group, and she was nervous as were most of the kids.
"Brings back memories." Daisuke said softly with a small smile.
"Yeah, let's hope nothing crazy happens this year." Ron muttered as the Sorting Ceremony got underway.
"Ginny Weasley." Professor McGonagall called out. Ginny squeaked and stepped up to the Sorting Hat and sat down on the chair and the hat was placed on her head.
"Another Weasley!" the hat shouted in exasperation. "I know where to put you. Gryffindor!"
The Gryffindor table burst into cheers and Ginny took off the hat and ran towards the table and sat down with the other students, her siblings, Harry, Hermione, and Daisuke clapping the loudest.
Soon the rest of the students were sorted and after a few notices from Professor Dumbledore the feast began.
"Hm this is so good." Demi-Veemon chirped, munching on some roast beef Daisuke had cut up for him.
"Slow down Vee, you eat almost as fast as Ron does." Daisuke told her Digimon with a chuckle.
"Do not." Both Ron and Demi-Veemon said, their mouths half full of food.
"Manners you two." Hermione told them, shaking her head. She then looked at the teacher's table and swooned over Lockhart who was sitting there wearing bright magenta robes. "I can't wait for our first Defence Against the Dark Arts Lesson."
Her friends shared a look, it seemed it wasn't just Mrs Weasley and older women who were infatuated with the blonde author.
Soon, everyone had eaten their fill of the feast, and everyone had gone to their houses to turn in early for their first day of classes the following day.
"Goodnight, guys." Daisuke yawned as she carried Demi-Veemon up the stairs to the girl's dorm with Hermione, Lavender and Parvati following them. Their dorm looked the same as it had been the previous year, all their things had been brought up earlier during the feast.
"Finally, we can sleep…" Demi-Veemon yawned, jumping onto Daisuke's bed beside Salem and he began snoring immediately.
Daisuke rolled her eyes at her partner before she changed into her pyjamas and climbed into her bed, closing the curtains before lying down. As she did, her eyes glowed gold for a moment before she fell asleep and began to have another dream.
She saw water on the floor of a hallway in the school, the girl's bathroom on the second floor and blood leaking from a wall. She awoke for a moment with a soft gasp. "Another dream…looks like this year won't be so peaceful…"
