Chapter 6: Following Percy, Grover, and Annabeth
Everyone was talking about Percy, about him being the son of Poseidon. So, like with her, he was trained by Luke while she continued her training with Severus. Already she could change into seven different forms, an owl, wolf, falcon, cheetah, lion, snake, and a bear. She could control wolves and deer, her mother's animal. She also worked with Hecate's children on learning the foundation of potion brewing and what ingredients went well with others.
Or didn't.
It was clear that whatever blessing that she had gotten when she was born made her a crack shot at magic. She could tell that he was proud of what she was able to do. And then she saw Percy, Annabeth, and Grover leaving camp.
"They must have gotten a quest," Severus told her.
"I'm going," she told him. "Before he ends up getting killed."
"I'm joining you."
Sneaking out of camp was a bit of a problem, but the two of them managed it. Severus did shadow traveling and Selene using her mother's tracking abilities, managed to locate the bus they were on. She doubted that other demigods could manage it. Severus appeared next to her.
"What your father would say if he could see us now," he said.
"He probably would think it was exciting."
Severus grumbled.
The bus came to a stop due to a smoking engine and she had a bad feeling about this.
"Stop," Severus said, holding her back.
"What's wrong?"
"Furies," he told her. "Change back into an owl so they don't smell you."
She nodded and changed back into her owl form. Percy ended up blowing up the bus.
"Who, in their right mind, is able to blow up a bus? Is this even possible?"
"I'm totally stumped."
Sniffing the air both Selene and Severus follow the three's trail, hoping that Percy didn't do something else that was stupid. Both doubted that blowing up a bus was a sign of an easy quest. Severus made a comment that this was something that Sirius Black would have found funny.
"So how well did you know my dad's friends?" Selene asked as they traveled.
"To well," he said. "Lupin is a werewolf, Peter just follows orders, Sirius thinks everything was funny, and James finally matured."
"Was Lupin infected by Lycon?" Selene asked.
Annabeth had given her a book on Greek monsters and Lycon was mentioned.
"No, and the Headmaster won't tell anyone who bit him," Severus told her. "I'm against him as a werewolf but even more as the person that never stopped the bullying."
"I know what you mean," Selene said, thinking about her time in England. "They would see it, but would do nothing to stop it. It would make me so angry, so bitter at those damn brats that thought it was funny to bully me. The teachers all thought that it was my fault, that I was doing something to cause it, and they would side with them all the time."
She felt a hand on her shoulder and Selene sensed, right at that moment, that she had a friend.
When they arrived at the place that Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were at she sensed trouble. She placed her hand on his shoulder and he said, "I smell it."
"I sense it and smell it," she said.
"Stone statues, no cars in the lot, oh this has got to be the worst thing those three could have stumbled on."
"Medusa," they both said at the same time.
She handed him her cap, "You have more experience than I do. Don't get turned to stone, hear me?"
He nodded but she swore a tiny smile was on his lips. He grabbed the cap, put it on, and vanished. She crept onto the snake pit, so to speak, and took out a mirror. The other Selene had given it to her so that she could make sure that when she was finished bathing that she hadn't missed a spot on her face. Despite how she acted while training she was still a daughter of Aphrodite. Now she used it for another reason: to keep from turning to stone.
She had a feeling that if she got turned to stone her mother would freak out. From looking through the mirror she saw a woman, covered head to toe, and figured this was Medusa. She took her chance and slowly went through the back. As soon as she did that she saw the door leading to the other part of the building open. She figured this was Severus.
"There used to be three of us, but they've faded away. Leaving only me."
"Three of you," she heard Annabeth say. "Percy, we need to get out of here."
"What's the rush?" the woman said, "I don't get much visitors-."
She had stopped as a loud 'THUNK' went through the building. Selene opened the door to find the woman gone, but her head, still covered, on the counter.
"Head's up," Severus said, removing the cap.
"What the Hades are you doing here?" Annabeth asked as she arrived. "This is our quest."
"Oh well, sorry that I saved you from joining Madam Stone over there," Severus told her.
"Annabeth, you almost got turned to stone," Selene told her. "Yes, this is your quest but I'm not about to have my best friend get turned to stone because you misjudged your enemy."
"And we have money," Severus added, pulling out a black card that Selene was sure that he had brought all the way from England.
"Fine," Annabeth said, "What are you doing, Percy?"
He was putting the covered head in a box.
"Sending it back to the gods."
"They'll think you're being imprudent," she told him.
"I AM being imprudent," he told her.
"Seaweed brain," Severus, Annabeth, and Selene said at the same time as it vanished.
To Selene's surprise there was a car in the back. They figured that it belonged to Medusa. Why she needed a car, she would never know.
"Wait a minute, you can drive," Selene told Severus.
"Of course," he said.
"Let's hope this makes our journey a bit easier," Grover said.
"Nothing, will make our journey easier."
They drove past cities, small town, a giant field of cows. Selene saw, from her position in the passenger side, that Percy looked like he was deep in thought. Annabeth was busy reading her book, and Grover was chewing on something that looked like a tin can. Severus didn't talk at all and Selene was worried about what they were going to face when they got where Percy and the others were heading.
They got gas and snacks and headed back on the road.
Selene insisted that they all rest for the night, which she could tell the others agreed with. Using the card to pay for two rooms, double beds, Selene crashed onto the nearest bed and fell asleep. In her dreams she saw a large building that looked like a castle and she was sucked into a room that had a blood red stone. A high, cold, laugh filled the room and she bolted awake.
"Time to check out," Severus told her. "What's wrong?"
She told him about her dream and he went pale.
"What do you think it means?" Selene asked him.
"I don't know," he answered.

A/N: So they ended up saving those three's butts from Medusa. The dream that she had was, of course, of Hogwarts, the Sorcerer's Stone, and Lord Voldemort. The black card was given to him by Hades, for any quest related items and to ensure that Percy got to the Underworld with the least amount of problems.
