Chapter 9: DOA Records

Selene didn't know how long it would take for them to get from the Lotus Hotel to Los Angles, where Selene had a feeling was Hades seat of power. It had to be, with the number of bad things that happened there and the fact that it was a filthy rich city. Money flowed there more than it did in Nevada.

"How are we going to find the entrance to Hades realm?" Annabeth asked.

"Leave that up to me," Selene said.

"What the Hades are you going to do?" Grover asked her.

"You don't want to know," Selene said and everyone, including Severus, looked at each other.

They arrived at a mattress place, which was an odd place to go. However, Selene's senses, as well as the gifts that she got from Hecate, told her that it was the right place to go. She got out, went in, and they all waited. Suddenly twenty people started running out, screaming in pure terror.

"Selene's scary," Grover said.

"Remind me to never make her mad," Severus said to him.

She came back out, smiled, and said, "Just down that road, turn left, and it's the last building on the right."

"What did you do?" Grover asked.

She told them exactly what she did and they all said, "YOU ATE MR. CRUSTY."

"I was hungry," she said. "I did it in my wolf form, not human."

"You have some serious issues," Severus told her.

They followed Selene's directions and soon they were in-front of a large building that was so high that it vanished into the clouds.

"I smell dead people," Grover said.

"Are you scared?" Selene asked him.

"I'm terrified," he told Selene.

On the front door it read, "No shoes, no shirt, no living, no service."

"Nice greeting," Percy said and they opened the door.

The lobby was crowded with people. A large group of children, all dressed in ancient Greek clothing, was crying. Selene watched as Severus walked over and said, "It's alright."

"Where's mummy at," one of them asked.

"I don't know," he said. "Come along, I'll take you with me."

"Now see here," a man said. "The child doesn't have money."

"Children don't have money because they can't work," Severus told him. "Let us pass or I'll tell Hades to stop paying you."

Selene figured right away that Severus was a son of Hades.

"You don't think-," Percy started.

"It doesn't matter," Selene told him. "He's over a hundred and fifty years old."

Severus was their ticket to the Underworld.

They were taken down without Charon's help, the child starting to clothed in a grey robe. The boat appeared and they all got on. All around them they saw nothing but mist and water, the boat moving without Charon's help. In the distance they saw a large monster with three heads.

"Stay with me," Severus told them. "He won't attack you while I'm here."

Selene agreed that was a good idea.

When the boat finally stopped they all got out and the group, which now included a dead child, passed the guards. A man was being pushed against the wall and searched by things that had rotting flesh.

"I remember him," Percy said. "He was some preacher that drove his Lamborghini for the Lord over a cliff. Does he see this place the same as we do?"

"Who knows," Grover said. "The Mist is some powerful stuff. So we don't have any clue what he's seeing."

The child was placed in line with the others and the group headed for Hades palace.

"Why are you-?"

"Percy, there's something wrong with my shoes."

"Di Immortales," Severus cursed. "He's heading for Tartarus."

They ran after him and Percy and Severus grabbed him while Selene and Annabeth worked getting the shoes off. The shoes vanished into the darkness.

"What's wrong with those shoes?" Severus asked him.

"I don't know," Grover said. "Luke gave them to me."

"Why do I have a feeling that there more going on here than anyone knows," Severus said to them.

"I think we need to talk to Hades, right now," Selene said. "Maybe he'll have answers."

"Then, let's hurry," Severus told them and they ran for Hades palace.

Nothing attacked them as they entered Hades palace. They ran as fast as they could, Percy complaining that the backpack was starting to get heavy. Still, they continued to run and Severus opened the door and they passed. Suddenly Selene felt weak and Annabeth grabbed her as she fell.

"What's wrong with her?" Annabeth asked Severus.

"I don't know," he told her.

"Welcome," came a cold voice and they looked to see Hades standing there. "Thank you, son, for bringing the thief to me."

"That's why you came with us," Annabeth told him.

"I wanted to make sure that you made it to the Underworld," Severus told her.

"Did you do this to Selene? I thought you were her friend."

"I am," he said.

Hades stood up and walked over to them. He bent down and said, "There's a fragment of a soul inside of her scar."

"A what?"

"A soul fragment," he repeated. "However, for now, Selene isn't in any kind of danger. I see that you brought the Master Bolt to me. I intend to use it to make Zeus see sense. Now return the Helm of Darkness that you stole from me."

"Your helm was stolen," Annabeth told him.

"Don't lie."

"I didn't steal anything," Percy told him.

"Then how do you have the bolt?"

"Ares gave it to us," Grover said. "He's been playing us for fools."

"We thought that you had stolen the bolt."

Hades face turned ugly and he said, "And what would I gain from a war with the gods. Do you know how expensive it is to keep the dead here? I've had to hire more ghouls, like a bunch of them centuries ago, and I've had to open up more departments. Return my helm and I won't kill your mother."

"My mother is dead."

"Nephew, your mother is still alive," Hades told him. "I took her before she could be killed by the Minotaur, which I sent to you to attack."

"Father, I didn't sense your helm during our journey here," Severus told him. "And you know that I can't be fooled."

"Why do I have a feeling that Ares been playing us all since the beginning," Annabeth said. "He gave the backpack to us, knowing the bolt was inside, and I bet that he has your helm of darkness."

"Let them go and confront Ares," Severus said. "If Percy dies then you will have no hand in it."

Hades looked at him and said, "Fine, the three of you can go. I have a soul fragment to attend to."

And Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were gone.

Severus placed Selene on the table while Hades looked over the scar. He hissed in anger and said, "It's a fragment of Tom's soul."

"The night that he failed to kill Selene."

Hades nodded and called out, "Hecate, I need you here."

Hecate appeared and said, "I'm here."

"Found a soul fragment," he told her.

"From Tom Riddle," Hecate said and he nodded. "Hold Selene down, Severus."

Severus chose the top part of her body and Hecate held down her legs. They watched as Hades forced the fragment out of Selene's body, the girl screaming her lungs out. The partial shade of Tom Riddle appeared.

"Guards," Hades called out.

Four appeared at once and he pointed to the partial shade, which fought them. Soon the shade was gone.

"Take her to a room so that she can rest," Hades ordered. "And then I would like to meet this remarkable girl myself."

Hecate gathered her in her arms and led her out of the throne room.

When Selene opened her eyes she was on the most comfortable bed that she had ever been in. It seemed to swallow her whole. Everything about the room was gloomy and depressing but she found Severus asleep in a chair.

"Severus," she said and he opened his eyes.

"Selene, you're alright," he told her.

"What happened?" she asked him.

"The soul fragment inside your scar caused you pass out," he told her. "Hades got rid of it."

"And did-."

"The bolt and helm have both been returned," Severus told her. "My father wanted me to tell you that he's grateful for what you've done."

Selene smiled at him and said, "Anything for a friend."

She was led to Hades throne room, dead going past them. She doubted, after the adventure that she had, that she would ever be scared of the dead ever again. Or death! When they entered she found that Hades wasn't alone. A woman was standing there along with a girl with a huge amount of bushy brown hair, a woman that glowed like the moon, and a man that had messy black hair and glasses.

"James," Severus said.

"Father," Selene said, shocked.

"Hecate came and told me that you actually helped to save the world and avoid a war of the gods. That's my little moonbeam."

"Yes, we are all proud of her," Hades told him, touching his helm. "You've got one smart daughter. Made me see that there was a lot more going on than a simple theft. And she made friends with my son. Lady Artemis, you have given the world a child that will break down walls that have been around for hundreds of years."

"She almost gave me a heart attack several times," Artemis told him. "But I'm glad that she actually got out into the world and saw it."

"Niece, I have a quest for you."

Selene felt excited. She was going on a quest.

"What is it?"

"You are due to return to the land of your birth," Hades told her. "I want you to find a stone and give to Severus, who will give it to me. You, Severus, and Hermione will be the main three for the quest."

"And I'll be there as well," Artemis told him. "Punishment and all."

Hades nodded and said, "While it's uncommon for four to go on a quest, I'm glad you reminded me that you have been punished."

"I'll do it," Selene said at once.

"This is going to be hair-raising," Severus said.

"You watch my daughter," her father ordered.

"Don't worry, James, I'll make sure that she's alright."

"I also want you to do everything to give me Tom's head of a platter," Hades told her.

"It will be my pleasure," Selene told him and then she did something that no demigod, or even his brothers, had done.

She put her arms around him and hugged him.

"It's time for us to return home," Artemis told her and with the help of Hecate, they were gone.

They appeared in a gleaming hall where eleven of the twelve Olympians were seated. Selene had a feeling that they wanted to meet the daughter of Artemis. All of them looked so intimidating and she felt very small.

"Father, I would like for you to meet your granddaughter," Artemis told him and suddenly she was as tall as the others.

"I want to see this child at my level," he told her.

"Perseus told us that you helped to retrieve the bolt and clear my name," a man in shorts and a top said.

"Yes, sir," she said.

"Don't be so modest," he said. "I'm your Uncle Poseidon."

She smiled at him.

"My brother told me that he's given you a quest," he said. "You will be far from the eyes of the gods."

"I understand that," Selene told him. "But this man killed my father and stepmother, people that loved me more than anything, I can't let that pass. Also he's violating the law of the Universe and I have to help correct it."

"The child has driven," a woman told him. "I'm your grandmother Hera. I can see Artemis in her. The drive, the determination, and the elegance to look graceful while she does that."

"The child is very wise," A blond haired woman told her. "She reminds me of my Annabeth."

"You're Athena," Selene said. "You've always been my favorite goddess. Well second now, that I'm the daughter of Artemis."

"I don't mind giving up first place," Athena told her. "However, to defeat Tom Riddle you will need more than the appearance, you need to understand his tactics and use it against him. Father, I would like to grace her with a gift of tactical knowledge and the ability to think seven steps ahead of any enemy. If we are going to ensure that she succeeds she's going to need it."

"I agree," her Uncle Apollon said.

"Very well, you can grace her with your gift," Zeus told her.

"Come forth," Athena said and she approached the throne.

Athena pressed her forehead against Selene's and suddenly she was filled with instinct and knowledge that she didn't have before. When she pulled out and she said, "Thanks, Aunt Athena."

Athena smiled at her.

"We can expect great things from you," Apollon told her.

She hoped that he was right.

A/N: So everything has been solved. The helm and bolt are back where they belong. The next chapter will be a short one, the final one before she returns to England.
