Chapter 11: Artemis Cabin

Selene had been shocked to hear that Luke, the boy that had helped her, was working for Kronos. Artemis told her that a number of demigods were going over to his side, a sign that Kronos was getting stronger and if he got anymore stronger it might be the end of the gods. The only thing that they could hope for was that the prophecy would be fulfilled and the gods would win. Selene couldn't imagine seeing her own mother die, it would kill her.

However, Selene had more important things to worry about than Kronos and whatever mad plan that he was up to. She had to find this stone that Hades wanted and she had a feeling that it was the stone in her dreams. Severus got them an illegal portkey, since Artemis couldn't really take Selene via godly means. It would kill her in an instant. So they landed outside of a village that Artemis called Hogsmead and standing before her was a huge hunting cabin. It looked normal on the outside but when they walked in the place was freaking huge.

There was more space here then she had ever seen in her life. The living area had a huge big screen TV, couch, and table. In the kitchen was everything you would need to cook whatever you had hunted. Along-side the walls was bows, arrows, rifles, traps of all kinds, and on the floor was bearskin rugs. This was a hunter's dream cabin. Her room was upstairs and it was warm and inviting. It had a huge bed, a desk, wardrobe, and bookshelf.

"Males aren't allowed in here," she told Selene.

"Yes, mother," Selene said at once.

Selene spent most of her time reading whatever she wanted and learning how to further her hunting skills. Hogsmead had a huge forest and that land was sacred to Artemis as well as other 'hunting' deities. She wrote to Dudley, letting him know that she was back in England, and then she made something to eat and had a small meal before going back and doing the same thing. She kept her room clean and Hecate came around three times a week to help her grow her magical abilities.

A tapping on the window woke Selene up and she opened it to let the owl in. It landed on her chair, a letter in its beak. She took it and looked at the envelope, which was made of thick yellow parchment.

Miss S. Potter

Fourth Room, Upper Floor

Artemis Hunting Cabin

Hogsmead

Dear Miss Potter,

You have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Find enclosed the list of books and equipment. Due to your close residence to Hogwarts a carriage will come and pick you up around five in the afternoon on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.

Sincerely,

Professor Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

She took a piece of paper and wrote,

I look forward in attending.

Selene Potter

She gave it to the owl, which flew out the window and was gone. She put her letter on the desk and went back to sleep.

The next morning Artemis and Hecate took Selene to Hogsmead so that they could floo to Diagon Alley. Selene had never taken floo before, but the look on Artemis face told her that she wasn't going to like it. It turned out to be correct. The moment that they arrived Selene made it a point to never use this kind of transportation. It was a nightmare.

"Why do wizards want to dirty themselves up," she asked Hecate.

"It's what I like about them."

Artemis grumbled. Selene had a feeling that her mother considered them nothing but nutters.

They first went to Gringotts, the Wizard bank, to withdraw some money out of Hecate's vault. Selene would get her vault key from Dumbledore, who promised to hand it over when Selene was at Hogwarts, and sorted, so that she wouldn't rely so much on Hecate and her money. Both Selene and Artemis stayed in the lobby while Hecate got the money.

"SELENE," Hermione's voice called out and they both turned to see a huge world of bushy hair coming at them.

"Hermione, don't act like she's some movie star," Severus told her.

"Well, nice to see you again," Artemis told him. "I'm finding that you're the only male that I can actually stand."

"Glad to know that I've gained your respect," he told her, bowing.

"Well you made sure that my daughter was taken care of and rid of that horrible soul fragment. So I believe that's enough to earn my respect."

"It was an honor," he told her.

"So what brings you here?" Selene asked him.

"I've been bullied by Professor McGonagall to take Hermione out shopping. I hate shopping."

Selene grinned and asked, "How are you going to get your stuff if you don't shop?"

"I make a wish and it appears."

Selene highly doubted that.

"My father gave me some money to get my things," Hermione told them. "I'm so excited."

"Just don't check out all the books in the library and you'll be fine," Severus told her.

"Now, what makes you think I would do that?"

"Just a thought that pops into my mind."

Hermione shook her head and said, "Well I better get going. See you at Hogwarts, Selene."

"Looking forward to it."

And they were gone.

When Hecate came back she had a couple small bags of money. She nodded to them and they left the bank. The next stop was Madam Malkin Robes for All Occasions. When they entered the lady said, "Hogwarts, my dear."

'Yes," Selene said.

"I'll take you to the next room," she told Selene and she was led away.

Both Artemis and Hecate waited for Selene to come out when a blond hair family came in. The woman led their son to a stool and started to fit him for his robes. A couple of moments later a red headed family came in.

"Great Malfoy is here," Hecate overheard one of them say.

"I smell a bozo," Artemis told her.

Hecate snickered at her words.

"Malfoy isn't doing anything to you," the mother said.

"Hay, old hag, what are you laughing about?"

Hecate's face turned angry and the blond hair man said, "Lady Hecate, I'm surprised to see you in the land of Nobles and Queens."

"Well what can you say, Lucius, I just couldn't stay away from England. It's a nice place, nice people, unlike some that have horrible manners."

"So what brings you here?" Mr. Malfoy asked.

"My daughter, Selene, is getting fitted," Artemis told him.

"Well I hope that she'll enjoy Hogwarts," Lucius told her.

"I'm sure that she will," Artemis said.

"Percy, go and get fitted."

"Yes, mum."

"My son was just made Prefect," she told them. "I'm so proud of him."

"Let's hope that Draco makes prefect in a couple of years."

"Lady Artemis," Mrs. Malfoy said.

"Cissy," she said. "Oh my gods, I never thought I would see you again."

"I'm a bit confused," Mrs. Malfoy said.

"Join the club," Lucius said.

"Wasn't she one of your-."

"Oh she was," Artemis said.

"You know, it's getting really hot in here," Hecate told them. "I think we need to get some ice-cream."

The red headed family must have sensed something tense because they hurried out. At that moment Severus and Hermione appeared.

"Let's find another store," Hecate told them.

"What-never mind."

"She was a huntress of Artemis," Hermione said after Hecate had explained what was going on.

"Oh this is going to a definite hair raising year," Severus said.

"So what happened?"

"She decided that she wanted to grow up," Hecate said. "Let's just say, they don't want to be near each other."

"What about Selene," Hermione asked. "She probably thinks that you've left her behind."

"Oh don't worry, she won't think that."

1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

"I thought you had left me behind."

"Told you that she would think that," Hermione said.

"I can't believe that she has the nerve to come around."

"Artemis, she has the right to shop for her son," Hecate told her. "And you did free her of her vow, without the threat of violence."

Artemis glared at her ice-cream, like it had insulted her. Severus and Hermione both looked at each other. It was going to be one long term and quest.

Selene's favorite shop was Flourish and Blotts. Even though Selene got the books that she needed she got at least ten more books on subjects like Charms and Transfiguration. Hermione got a book on household potions and charms.

"Are you setting yourself up to getting married?" Severus asked her.

"It doesn't hurt to know other things."

Selene saw Severus rolling his eyes at that.

Selene didn't see the Malfoy family for the rest of the trip. She had met Draco, who seemed a bit snobbish but she figured that he had a whole 'image' to uphold and so the snobby came out. If they were in the same house she was going to cure him of being a snob and make him act like a human being. Artemis commented that someone had to have a pet project. They got Potions supplies at the most fascinating apothecary that she had ever seen, and they got things like cauldrons, a telescope, vials that Severus insisted that she get the shatter proof ones.

In a shop that sold magical creatures a wolf cub was setting by himself. Selene felt sorry for him and wanted him at once.

"The list doesn't allow a wolf cub."

"I know, but he looks so lonely."

"Oh let her have her wolf cub, Severus," Artemis told him. "It's not going to hurt anyone."

"Tell that to Filch."

Artemis snorted at that. Ten minutes later, and named Merlin, they left.

The last shop was Ollivanders. Hecate told her that both Lily and James Potter had gotten their wands here. She was excited to finally get a wand form the same person that gave her father and stepmother their wands.

"And don't forget me," Severus told her.

"Of course not, my dear."

Something about Ollivander gave Selene the creeps. Thankfully he didn't seem to know who she was. She knew that it was due to the glamour that Hecate had put on her. Selene was glad. She hated being famous. Mr. Ollivander talked about the different core ingredients for a wand and Selene wondered why they would want to use those things.

"Wandlore can be very confusing," Hecate told her. "If you want, I could teach you what I know."

"Thanks," Selene said, eager to learn something new.

And then came the trying out part. As Ollivander handed Selene each wand everyone ended up hiding under tables or behind a row of tried wands. Still, every wand that Ollivander had reacted badly to Selene.

"This calls for a custom job," he told her. "Why don't you, your mother, and I go in the back and we'll see which cores you might be compatible with."

"As long as it's not the three that you use," Artemis stated.

"Of course not," he promised.

Ollivander's workshop was a wooden room that had row after row of cores that looked older than her mother. There were boxes of wands that had empty core centers and books after books of information about wands.

"Let your magic guide you," he told her. "It will be able to sense what wand wood is compatible."

Selene closed her eyes and her magic reached out. She had been doing this for so long that it was like walking down the street. Her magic hit a wood and the wood fell to the table. She opened her eyes and saw her mother smiling at her.

"Blackthorn, the wood of warriors," he said. "Oh I think I'm going to like this customer. Now, the same thing with the core."

Selene closed her eyes again and her magic reached out. Three core bottles came out, sending a small amount of dust into the air. Ollivander sneezed a couple of times and looked at the faded label.

"Banshee hair, harpy claw, and Dementor bone marrow. My great-great-great-grandfather use to say these made sinister wands."

"How the Hades did you grandfather get a bone marrow from a Dementor?" Artemis asked him.

"You don't really want to know."

Selene doubted that she wanted to know either.

"Come back in an hour and I'll have the wand ready."

He's way too creepy," Selene told Artemis.

1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

A/N: Yep, Selene is right about him being way too creepy. I also thought that a wolf cub, since Selene can control them, was a good animal. Oh Professor McGonagall is going to lose her mind when Selene arrives with Merlin.
