Chapter 13: First Day of Classes

Selene could feel the energy of the castle and it was a huge ball of energy. It was also ancient and Greek. That told Selene only one thing: The Founders must of been demigods. Not only that, but the most powerful point was in Slytherin house. So that meant that most of the demigods, when the gods lived in England, had been in Slytherin. The other girls had been fawning over Merlin, who seem to love the attention.

Selene just shook her head.

The next morning, she, Hermione, and Draco arrived in the Great Hall for breakfast. Both Hermione and Draco managed to keep her from getting lost so they arrived with most of Slytherin trailing behind them. They sat down and Selene saw that the only members of the other houses that were there were the older ones. She figured that the Prefects really didn't care much for the newer students.

"I think I should warn you," Draco started.

"About what?" Selene asked.

"Well about the fact that you didn't get into Gryffindor."

"Oh please, give me a break," Hermione said. "It's just a stupid house."

"Granger, you don't understand. People are expecting Selene to be in Gryffindor. The fact that she's not, well let's just say that it's not going to go over well."

Selene rolled her eyes.

The rest of the students arrived and so did the mail. Delivered by owls, which Selene was sure that Athena would have found insulting. The owls dropped letters and packages to what looked like their owners. Draco had an owl of his own, which earned him disapproving looks from both Selene and Hermione.

"What did I do now?" he asked them.

"Never mind," Hermione said.

Hermione's fire phoenix landed on her shoulder, making Draco almost drop the box that his owl had delivered.

"What the bloody hell is that?"

"A fire phoenix," Hermione said. "Mother created it for me."

"Your mum, how is that even-."

"Take a deep breath before you pass out," Selene warned him. "Hermione's mother can do a lot of things that others can't."

"What kind of things?"

"It's not my place to say what she can, or can't, do," Selene told him, hoping that would keep him from asking anymore questions.

Suddenly there was a huge flock of more owls and Draco looked up and said, "The mail has already been delivered."

All the owls suddenly headed for Selene, fighting to deliver whatever package that they needed to give her. Before Selene could even grab one of them Severus, followed by Professor Dumbledore, came in and marched over to the Slytherin table. Selene watched as Dumbledore dispatched them with a wave of his hand, leaving only the packages behind.

"Don't touch anything," Severus ordered and they were gathered up and the two men left.

"This is revolting," Professor Sprout said, as they read over some of the letters that was sent to Selene.

All the Professors, minus McGonagall, were slowly inspecting every piece of mail that had come to Selene. Most of them called Selene a dark witch, that she should have died with her parents. Severus felt rage flowing through him. Selene didn't deserve this, no one deserved this. Not after what she did during the summer.

"It's clear that whatever love that people had for Miss Potter is gone. Severus, I want you to protect her with everything that you have. And that includes anyone that befriends her."

"I will," Severus said at once.

"Let's just hope that hate mail is all that we have to put up with," Dumbledore told them.

"What about the other students?" Flitwick asked. "Their parents are going to tell them to make Miss Potter's life horrible."

"If anyone bullies Miss Potter, or her friends, I will ensure that person is expelled."

And the magic that came from the Headmaster told them that he meant it.

The first class that Selene and her friends had was in Herbology, with Professor Sprout. They had these with the Ravenclaws, or as Hermione called them 'a bunch of morons that thought books held all the answers.' Hermione had been learning her stuff ever since she was five and knew more about plants than anyone that she knew. Selene knew that Hogwarts was going to be a nightmare for people like her and Hermione. Today's lesson was just about learning the basic plants and what they were used for. After Herbology they had Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall.

Selene knew that McGonagall hadn't forgotten Selene's sudden change into a wolf and the look on her face told her that she was right. She hated everything about Selene and Selene sensed that no matter how good she was, no matter how much she shined with bright light, that she would always be viewed from a negative lens. Today they were turning matches into needles. Selene helped Draco see what he was doing wrong, but no points came to Slytherin and the look on McGonagall's face told her that she was glad that she hadn't given the house of snakes any points.

"What is McGonagall's deal," Vincent Crabbe asked as they sat down for lunch. "Old hag has lost her marbles."

"Because I was sorted into Slytherin."

"No reason to act like a bitch," he said.

"Don't let her hear you say that," Draco warned. "Might give you detention."

"For what? The truth!"

"Don't worry, we'll get her back if she goes too far," Hermione told him and the look on Hermione's face told Selene that McGonagall better have good life insurance.

After lunch they had Magical Theory and then two hours of study time according to the rules that Severus had set down. And then it was off to dinner and then everyone could just relax. Selene went to see her mother and Hermione and Draco stayed in the Common Room to relax. Artemis was waiting on her when she arrived.

"Tell me how your day was."

And Selene told her everything.

"I understand the whole thing is hard on Hermione. Your cousin can beat down someone with years of training."

"It's going to take a lot for her to not show off how powerful she actually is," Selene told her.

"That I will agree with."

The rest of the week passed and with each class Selene got the impression that whatever had been in that mail, and she kept on getting them, was a mirror of what the students in the other houses were showing her. Draco commented that he had never seen this much hate directed at one person even when his father had been a Death Eater.

"I think that you've replaced You-Know-Who as the most hated person in the Wizarding World."

"Great, glad to know that I'm that important now."

"Unless they attack us, then we don't have much to worry about," Hermione told them.

"Let's hope that it's only limited to glares."

On Friday they had Double Potions with the Gryffindor's. As they headed down to Severus classroom Selene decided to put aside her worries about what the Gryffindor's might do and just enjoy the lesson. She saw that Hermione wasn't acting the same. Her eyes were alert and looking out for trouble. They all lined up, waiting for Severus to open the door, when the batch of Gryffindor's approached them.

"Oh look what we have here, Potter, the Dark witch, and Malfoy."

The speaker was Ron Weasley.

"Watch that tongue, Weasley, and I'll show you things that would give your mummy nightmares," Hermione threatened.

"I'm not scared of you, traitor," he snarled. "You know that's what they call you, Granger, a traitor. Why anyone would want to be a Muggleborn Slytherin is beyond their understanding. You know they killed people like you for fun."

"I'm not scared of anyone or anything," Hermione said. "And the hat put me in here because that's what the hat does, sorts people."

Selene knew that Hermione wasn't. All demigods had faced things that toughened them up to the point that nothing scared them. She hadn't reached that point, but Selene had an inner strength because of what the Dursley's had done to her. She saw the same hate that she had faced with them, coming from Weasley.

"Don't let this moron get to you," Selene told Hermione. "He's not worth our time."

"Why don't you stop talking, Potter," Weasley countered. "No one cares about how you defeated You-Know-Who, your money, or who your parents were. You're like Malfoy, filth."

"Of course being in Slytherin proves that you're nothing but a dark witch," another boy told her. "A filthy wanna-be Death Eater."

"What did you call me?"

Weasley grinned at her and then the door opened and Severus said, "Everyone, get in."

None of the Gryffindor's moved, just glared at Selene and Hermione. Selene noticed that one, a round-faced boy, looked down at his feet.

"I SAID MOVE, OR IT'S DETENTION…. FOR ALL OF YOU."

The Gryffindor's finally moved to go inside and that left Selene to wonder how far the Gryffindor's would go to make them feel like they weren't wanted. Two hours later the classroom emptied of students, who headed in different directions. Selene came out of the lesson, pleased with how it went. Severus had made the Gryffindor's so nervous that a couple of them ended up in the hospital wing.

Selene had to admit that she really loved Potions.

A/N: I didn't go into details about Severus Potions lesson that Selene had. It's almost the same, except that he asked Weasley the questions, instead of Selene.
