The Next Day
Hope's Bedroom
"Tell her," Klaus prompted firmly. "If I have to do it, you will not like the additional consequences, my young wolf!"
Hope winced. Her father almost never had used this tone with her. She did not like it one bit.
"Um..Dad caught Henry and I smoking and ah, drinking last night...," Hope drifted off.
Hayley's hazel eyes flashed with anger. She yelled, "What? So while we were taking your uncle, who was suffering horribly because you messed up his healing spell, to the clinic, you were here... partying? Are you fucking kidding me?"
Klaus stood up, "Hayley, come on, she will be punished. There is no need for that kind of talk."
"Really? You are going to punish her? I hope so, Klaus, because I am done. You two have no idea what Elijah went through last night after we got home. Hope, you know I love you more than my own life, but I am so damn mad at you right now that I cannot even look at you," Hayley hissed before she walked out. Her eyes flashed yellow and Hope saw a side of her mother that she almost never saw.
Hope tried not to cry, but the second she looked at her father, she broke down. Klaus enveloped her in his strong arms and cradled her. "Sweetheart, she was afraid. My brother is one of the strongest beings on this earth and he was ill. I was alarmed also. You needed to tell her about what you did and face it."
"Daddy," Hope wept, "She hates me now. Uncle Elijah probably hates me, too. I should...just try to freaking kill myself! You would all be better off anyway."
Klaus pulled his daughter away, "Don't you ever talk like that! Do you hear me? I hear it again and I will put you over my knee and spank you so hard that,-"
"I'll do it! I'll slash my wrists and make sure none of you can find me. I'll cloak myself," Hope said not hearing Klaus at all. "You probably wish I was never born!"
Klaus dragged Hope over to her desk and pulled her near the chair while he had his left hand around her slender wrist. Her eyes widened in confusion for a moment.
"Dadddd, what are you doing?" Hope shrieked as she tried to pull away. No one was a match for the strength of her father and he was determined to see this through.
"You know exactly what I am doing, young lady," Klaus said as he sat down and pulled her over his left thigh. He had on dark jeans and boots. He propped a boot on her bed to raise up his leg higher.
Hope squealed and yelped as Klaus popped her pajama pants hard. Smack! Hope stared at the fuzzy rug that was under her bed in shock. He was spanking her?
"Daddy, you *smack* can't spank me!" Hope shouted. Crack!
"Oh, really, why is that?" Klaus asked with his eyebrows up. Whack! Whack! Whack!
"I'm too old," Hope bellowed as she barely caught her breath. "Stop it. Damn you."
Whack! Whack! Whack! Her father was spanking her harder to compensate for her flannel pajama pants and cotton underwear and it was starting to sting. Whack! Whack! Whack!
"That cursing is going to end with you getting a soaped out mouth," Klaus warned. Elijah had done that to plenty of times to Kol, a few to Rebekah, and once to Marcel. Klaus thought it was silly until he heard the filth and backtalk coming out of his little girl's mouth.
Hope was griping the rungs of the chair tightly, her chair! Her legs were outstretched and flailing as Klaus continued to pepper her behind with crisp smacks. Her socked feet were soon tapping on the floor.
Hope began to sob loudly, not from pain, but from frustration. This was not fair. No one was listening to her side. She figured this would quickly end her punishment, to his dismay, she felt the spanks fall harder and faster.
"Stop!" she screamed. "I mean it."
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
"The louder you holler, the more people in this household are going to know you are getting a sound smacking. Now, think about how you ought to start behaving yourself if you want to avoid this again," Klaus added. Whack! Whack!
After another minutes of swats landing all over her behind, Hope's eyes popped open when Klaus targeted her sit spots. Bam! Bam!
"Daddddddy, nooooooo!' she screamed and tried to wiggle over his lap.
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
"Stay still, sweetheart. You are also not too old for another spanking at bedtime," Klaus warned.
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
Hope had no choice but to take it and finally ran out of steam. She stopped thrashing and just cried quietly. It took her a few minutes to realized that Klaus had stopped spanking and was now rubbing her back in small circles.
"Ready to come up?" Klaus asked in a calm voice.
"Yes," Hope indicated softly. Klaus stood her up and her hands went to rub her hot seat. Even through the fabric, her backside stung and ached. Klaus looked pained and worried. Hope wanted to be angry and hurt him back, but when he stood and hugged her, she let him.
"I am sorry I had to do that, but I never want to hear you threaten to take your own life again. Ever! We all love you so much. Some day, we will tell you about the circumstances of your birth and how we all fought for you. But right now, you must trust that even when we are angry with you, we would sacrifice everything to save you," Klaus whispered.
"Sorry, Daddy," Hope sniffed. "I was a brat. I just never thought you would do that. You know, actually spank me. I didn't mean it, what I said. I was angry. Can I go see Mom?"
"You don't have to, hon," Hayley said tearfully. "I'm here." Hayley opened her arms and Hope launched into them. Hayley held her and whispered that she was sorry for yelling earlier and leaving.
"Mom," Hope responded. "You came back."
"I never left. I was at the door...So your Dad finally spanked you? He was right, too. We love you so much, Hope. I am sorry more is demanded from you. It's not fair and I wish you could be normal and not have all these pressures and issues..." Hayley started hoarsely.
"It's okay, Mom, really. I have you guys. I'll tell Aunt Freya and Uncle Elijah I'm sorry. I guess I'm still in trouble, huh?" Hope prodded.
Klaus nodded, "That spanking was for threatening to harm yourself. Your mom and I already set your punishment for the spell. You are to help Freya clean her lab and have lessons with her daily in magical safety. Now, we did not talk about the alcohol and smoking. Henry will also be punished."
"I am thinking grounded for one week. No phones, tv, just extra chores and family time," Hayley smirked.
"Like family game night? Crap like that?" Hope moaned.
"Yep. Hand over your phone and remote. Oh, I'll be taking that laptop. No need to use it for schoolwork, since you are suspended. We will sit down and talk to you and Henry about this more. I know you are hybrids, but alcohol and smoking can still be dangerous. Both are off-limits and you know that," Hayley scolded.
"I know," Hope replied.
"Grounded means you are in bed by 9 pm and any misbehavior during that time means further punishment. We talked to Freya and she has our full permission to paddle you with her spoon if you fail to listen to her instruction or disobey her orders. Magic, as we have seen, is no joke. Now, we'll let you change so you can get to some of your chores. I think cleaning up this room would be a good start," Klaus intoned. He pointedly looked around at the dirty clothes on the floor and the clothes Hope had left unpacked from her suitcase.
"Dad, my butt still stings! Now I have to clean? That's not fair," Hope complained.
Hayley informed, "Hope, anymore of this whining and you will be getting another spanking from me. And unlike your dad, I spank on the bare butt with the hairbrush. Frankly, your dad and uncle had to talk me out of using a belt on you after this latest escapade."
"My uncle? You mean Uncle Elijah did that?" Hope felt terrible. She had hurt her uncle and then went on with her night. Hope felt her eyes fill with tears. "Can I go talk to him now?"
"Yeah, baby, he is downstairs," Hayley said roughly looking at Klaus. They could tell that Hope was still full of guilt.
After Hope left, Hayley went and sat on the bed near Klaus. "You okay? I know that wasn't easy for you."
Klaus cleared his throat, "No, it wasn't. But Hayley, she was talking crazy and saying awful things. I am sorry if I ever criticized your parenting when I was not even here. The moods, the tantrums...is this her being a tribrid? Or it is my fault for leaving?'
"Klaus, it's her being a teenager. I hate to tell you but this is just the beginning," Hayley smiled.
"Where is that sweet little girl who used to sit on my lap painting with me?" Klaus said as a tear slipped down his cheek. He brushed it away.
"Hey, Klaus, she's still in there. But I'm not gonna lie. If we are doing our jobs right, there are times she is going to hate us. That is okay. We have to stick together and be firm when we need to, but also be there when she needs us to talk. And not just you and me...the whole family. We can't do this alone," Hayley said putting a hand on his forearm.
"We do not have to," Klaus nodded. "I will go talk to Henry."
Klaus walked down to the large bedroom that had been Marcel's a long time ago. For a second, Klaus saw his son in his first suit in 1820, then later when he was a man...and then a vampire ready to run the city and the world. More tears escaped. He missed his son painfully and made a note to call him.
"Henry?" Klaus walked to the gallery. Nothing. He already knew the room was empty. He found a note.
"Dear Mikaelson Family.
Thank you for helping me. I am sorry for being a pain. Please forgive me. I cannot stay in the Bayou and I cannot stay in the city. I just cause trouble wherever I go. I plan to go far away. Tell Lisina that I am sorry. Do not look for me.
Love,
Henry."
Klaus put down the note. He took it and went to find Freya. He wondered if she could use it to do a locator spell.
Kitchen
"Uncle Elijah?" Hope almost whispered.
"Hope! Look at you, in one piece," Elijah smiled sympathetically. As he stood and kissed her cheek.
Hope felt a heat creep into her neck and cheeks. "You hear Dad..., you know?" Hope couldn't say it aloud.
"Spanking you? Yes. Honey, I think the whole French Quarter heard," Elijah joked. "I am just kidding. Are you all right?"
"I should be asking you that. Uncle Elijah, I am really sorry about messing with that spell. I didn't know it had to do with you. I am ashamed of myself," Hope admitted.
"Hope, it is all taken care of now. As long as you learned from it. Magic is not to be trifled with, it can be very serious," Elijah shared.
"Yes, sir," Hope smiled. She couldn't help but rub her backside a little.
"Your father didn't go easy on you, did he?" Elijah asked.
"No, how come when you whacked me with that hairbrush, it didn't hurt as much as this time with just Dad's hand?" Hope groused.
"I know you are a wolf, but until you trigger your curse, you will not heal fast. Also, maybe your dad gets a little more emotional and you weren't as angry? I was careful not to swat you too hard, especially with that hair brush. The last thing I wanted to do was truly hurt you, sometimes a spanking is just to get a child's attention when other measures are not working," Elijah revealed.
"You'll have my attention, okay. I really do think I am too old for this kind of thing...," Hope insisted.
Elijah nodded, "That remains to be seen. Hungry? I could make you breakfast."
"I could eat," Hope said sitting down very gingerly.
"Is your friend Henry awake? Or should we let him sleep in?" Elijah wondered.
"I think he's getting a talking-to," Hope said looking in the direction of the upper level.
"Oh, well, we can save him something," Elijah said as he put on his apron.
Docks
Henry had used his new powers of mind control to compel a cabbie to drive him to the docks. He had heard that there was a vampire here who would give you a new change of identity.
Henry let the cabbie go and then realized he was stuck here. He was thirsty and scared, but he had to get out of the city.
"You lost, little dude," a scruffy man asked him.
"I am looking for a guy named Fido?" Henry asked feeling silly. That could not be the guy's real name, right?
"What you want with him? You just a kid!" the man laughed. Henry turned his vampire face onto the guy and he screamed and ran away. Henry was tempted to feed from him, but he had a feeling his blood was tainted with drugs and alcohol.
Two scantily clad woman approached him next, "You lookin' for a date, hon?"
"No, ma'am, I am looking for Fido," Henry asked politely. They laughed and turned away. Henry vamped to them and bit one in the neck feeding from her. She tasted like old aspirin to him, but he was hungry. Her friend screamed in alarm. Soon, Henry felt himself pulled off and punched in the gut.
"How dare you feed here!" a muscled man growled. "I am gong to kill you, vamp. You are in the wrong territory. This is under wolf control."
"I am a Crescent!" Henry gushed out of habit. He pulled back his shirt near his right shoulder to show the other wolf his mark.
"But...I just saw you feeding off that hooker...," the man said in confusion.
"I'm a hybrid," Henry said hopelessly.
The man's face twisted in disgust, "What do you want here?"
"I need a new ID. and to get out of the city fast. I'm in danger. Can you help?" Henry asked timidly.
The man laughed, "Yeah, kid. Come on, wait over here and we'll get you set up."
Henry was led into an old shipping container turned into an office. He was sat in a bench and told to wait.
After twenty minutes, Henry got up and looked outside. He said the big man guarding the container.
"How much longer? I need to go," Henry complained.
"The boss will be here soon. Go back inside," The man smiled.
Henry obeyed and waited another ten minutes. He heard voices. Before he could get to the door, he saw Hayley and Klaus walk in.
Henry gulped, "You're the boss! Don't kill me. I just wanted to leave. I am sorry."
Hayley looked at Henry firmly, "Young man, you are in enough trouble. Klaus is the no longer the King of New Orleans, but I am on the council. They know to call us if something is odd. Plus, Freya did a locator spell on you. Henry, why did you take off like that?"
Henry panicked, "I thought you would kill me for drinking with Hope and smoking. I am sorry. I am such a screw up."
Klaus wanted to grin, but cleared his throat. "Henry, I already told you, I am not going to kill you. Where do you think we brought you to live with us?"
Henry shrugged, "Because everyone wants me dead."
"No, son, you are under our protection. Hope made you a hybrid and that makes you very special, but we believe that we are responsible for helping you learn to manage all this. Your emotions are all over the place. Welcome to being a vampire. Your fear is now magnified...every emotion is heightened. I am sorry for not speaking with you last night but we had a family emergency," Klaus stated.
"So you don't want to kill me?" Henry repeated.
Hayley laughed, "Hon, if he wanted to kill you, you would have been dead, okay? Now, let's go back to the Compound. You are grounded for the drinking and for this little stunt...Well, we will talk about it at home, okay? Did you eat? Maybe we can swing by and get some beignets?"
Henry was astounded, "You're not pissed?"
Klaus smirked, "We are not happy with your behavior, but I suppose under the circumstances, I can see why you panicked. But your Queen here is going to,-"
"Klaus, we said we'd discuss it when we got home," Hayley reminded him.
"Oh yes, sorry. Let's go now, this is no place for a young man," Klaus said opening the door. He slipped the big man an envelope of bills and then were on their way.
