"Kallen. I need to talk to you." Ohgi said over the phone to her as she was leaving the school.
"Ohgi I love you like another brother but I was going to go hug the hell out of Naoto…" Kallen said and Ohgi gave an understanding noise at that. Tamaki however wasn't too good at being tactful or quiet.
"Aw come on Kallen! Can't the high and might Q-1 spare ol P-5 some time?" Tamaki called through the phone and Kallen was dead silent for a moment before she cursed softly.
"You're back too?" Kallen asked and Tamaki grinned wildly at that while Ohgi was relieved. So Kallen was back as well. That was wonderful news.
"Us and Chigusa for sure. We don't know of anyone else." Ohgi said making sure to use the name he had gifted to his wife when she had amnesia. It was better to get into the habit again after all.
It wouldn't do for him to use her real name in battle and she get found out. Especially not right at the beginning.
"Milly remembers. As does Lelouch himself. Hold on." Kallen said and there was a sound as if she were running.
"Kallen what's wrong?" A males voice asked when Kallen seemed to stop running. A voice that caused Ohgi and Tamaki's breaths to hitch. It was him. Lelouch. Zero. The Demon Emperor. The Man of Miracles.
Their leader and friend. The one they betrayed.
"Ohgi just called me. He, Tamaki, and Chigusa all have their memories." Kallen said and there was a long moment of silence on her end before there was a noise and someone else took the phone to answer it.
"Ohgi. Tamaki." His voice was clearer now and Ohgi's voice failed him as his throat closed up. It really was him. His voice sounded a bit younger but the regal tone to it that he wielded without meaning to. The commanding tone and the almost hesitant undertone he picked up on.
"Zero! What's up boss?" Tamaki, unlike Ohgi, had a big wild grin on his face as he hung off of Ohgi's shoulder but looking at him Ohgi saw the relieved and happy look in his eyes. The tears that were forming.
"It's good to hear from you too, Tamaki. But I'm not really your boss right now." Zero…Lelouch said and there was a bit of a chuckle to his words while Tamaki wiped at his eyes to remove the tears.
"Nah man. Once a Black Knight always a Black Knight. Even if they aren't formed yet. P-5 ready and reporting for duty boss man." Tamaki said his grin never falling and there was a small choking like sound from the phone. It almost sounded like Lelouch was choking back tears. Ohgi felt his own tears cascade down his face.
They had driven him that far, had made him think he was all alone with no one who cared or believed in him. They had betrayed him, all but a few. But now…Now they would do things right.
"Ohgi." Lelouch's voice was addressing the school teacher now who snapped out of his thoughts.
"I'm here…" Ohgi hesitated for a few seconds before he bowed his head. He would understand if Lelouch no longer wanted him in the Black Knights and would respect it. He didn't deserve Lelouch's trust or mercy nor did he deserve to be a Black Knight. Not anymore.
"I'm here and awaiting orders boss." Ohgi said and he heard Lelouch's sharp intake at that. Obviously Lelouch hadn't expected that. Hadn't expected or thought Ohgi would still want to work with him, for him.
And Ohgi only had himself to blame for that.
"I don't know if you can get Chigusa there in time but…I have a chess match arranged against an arrogant noble tomorrow. I can easily send Rivalz on ahead however. I…I'll meet up with you, Chigusa, Tamaki, and Kallen tomorrow about one o clock. At the old school building. Is…" Ohgi had never heard Lelouch or Zero sound so hesitant before or uncertain. He had never thought he would hear him like that. He didn't like it, knowing that he was that way because of what they had done. Knowing that they had broken his trust and betrayed him once already which made him wary and uncertain of how to talk to them
Ohgi would do his best to fix that. He never wanted to hear Lelouch or Zero that uncertain again.
"Is that alright with you three?" Lelouch asked and Tamaki was immediate.
"Well I might have to reschedule a date with this rather hot lady I met…." Tamaki was obviously teasing and Ohgi was glad that at least he seemed about to talk and treat Lelouch like he used to.
"But it'll be worth it ta see ya again boss." Tamaki said and the smile on his face was so genuine that it struck Ohgi like a punch. After all Tamaki hadn't wanted to betray Zero the first time. He had in fact spoken against it but they had all ignored him and continued on with their betrayal.
'And look what that had led to. Tamaki had the right idea from the start and I was so caught up in everything else that I didn't even entertain the thought of him being right.' Ohgi thought sadly, recalling how he had ignored Tamaki out of hand when the red head had spoken up in Zero's defense.
"I'll call Chigusa in a minute and see if she can meet up with us. If not then we can schedule for her to meet up with you somewhere and time else. But I'll be there tomorrow." Ohgi said snapping out of his thoughts to answer Lelouch.
"Alright. I'll see you all tomorrow then…Kallen…go hug your brother." Lelouch said, his voice a bit further away as he handed the phone back to Kallen who made an agreeing noise at that.
"You're lucky you've already been punished enough or I'd deck you when I see you tomorrow. Now I'm going to go hug Naoto-nii and not let him go for an hour." Kallen growled into the phone as she presumably left the school for real this time.
"I'd deserve it and wouldn't say anything if you did punch me. See you tomorrow Kallen." Ohgi said before hanging up. He knew what she meant and how she felt. He had honestly felt like she should have punched him as soon as he learned of Zero Requiem.
The guilt and horror and weight of what he had done had crashed into him like an out of control Knightmare. It had stolen his breath away and sent him to his knees in grief and despair.
'Not this time.' He thought savagely as he punched in the number Chigusa had called him from.
'This time I WILL prove to him that I trust him. I'll prove myself worthy of the second in command title he had given me.'
