So there he was, the fiend that helped contribute to my husband's downfall all those years ago. After all, if it wasn't for him, that bomb would have never landed on the tracks and caused the L-Train accident. Gotta say, age doesn't help his case much (I mean hey, at least I got some pretty good hips out of it!). Bomb Voyage grinned, playing with the end of his mustache as he spoke.
"You Americans are always so headstrong… so foolish. Acting as if our intelligence operatives were unaware of your investigation. HAH!"
I didn't pay him any mind, getting an idea as I whispered at Mirage. "How much longer for the force field?"
She looked at her watch. "Just a few more seconds…."
Bomb Voyage continued talking with his accented voice, circling the dome like a tiger closing in its prey. "Xerex will be so disappointed. You were to be his prize. But I think instead, this will be your - "
KRRUNCH!
A loud cracking noise split the air as my fist collided with his face the moment the force field dissipated.
He squealed, dropping to his knees and cradling his nose. "My node!" he nasally wailed. "You broke my node!" He removed a hand from his face to motion toward where me and Mirage were standing.
"DEDROY THEM!"
The robots whizzed into action, but I was much quicker. With a nice long s-t-r-e-t-c-h of my torso, about a dozen or more bots were tied into place and crushed on the spot. I untangled myself, growing my hands out largely so I could easily grab two more robots and SMASH them into each other. Mirage came into my view, skillfully karate-kicking another one. As the bot fell, my eyebrows lifted in surprise - that good-for-nothing Bomb Voyage was trying to run away and escape! I stretched my legs out and over the damage to catch up, gripping his arm.
"Hold it right there, Bomb Voyage!"
He tore himself away, and grabbed a couple of hand grenades from his grandolier. "No! I shall not be defeated by the likes of you!"
He threw the bombs at me, but I was ready. Morphing my arm into a baseball bat, I hit them, and they flew right back at him, exploding by his ears with a big THOOM. I landed another punch in his face. He whined even louder this time, hands going right back to his face as he fell to the floor in a fetal position. "Theriously? The node again?!"
Crybaby. I've gotten punched harder than that those unlucky few times that a criminal was able to land one on me.
Mirage's voice suddenly rang through the air. "Look! The rest are retreating!"
She was right - it seemed the bots had thrown in the towel and were now zooming back into the air and away from the dock in the same direction that they had come in. While the news good, it wasn't where my focus lay now.
"It doesn't matter…" I said, approaching the heap at the ground and crouching down to meet his level. "We have who we want."
Bomb Voyage winced and tried to scoot back when I came shouting at him. "All right you, where's Xerex? What's he planning?!"
A click was my response, the French villain having pressed a button on his chest. A jetpack on his back roared to life. "You will neber capture Bomb Voyage!" he screamed, soaring into the air with a whoooooosh!
I frowned. He wasn't getting away that easy! Flipping over a beaten robot on the dock, I snatched the still-intact jetpack on it.
Mirage gaped at me when she realized what I was up to. "You can't be serious…"
"We NEED information," I insisted, slipping the pack on, "and with your contact compromised, he's our only lead." Gunning the thrusters at full blast, I made my way up high into the air, calling back to her only once.
"Try to stay out of trouble!"
By the time I had Bomb Voyage in view, the sun had already risen, giving way to a bright blue day. It was easy to make out his dark clothing against the clear skies. He flew haphazardly, frantically reporting into his wrist communicator.
"Our forces have been overwhelmed! Elastigirl remains free! Requesting immediate - "
ZORP!
A bullet whizzed a fraction away form Bomb Voyage's head. He looked back with fear, his eyes widening when he met mine. "Sacre blu!"
"Give it up, Voyage!" I said, aiming the gun at his head again. "There's no escape!"
He boosted the jet pack to its highest setting, screeching desperately into the communicator.
"SHE'S CRAZY! HELP ME!"
SKOOM!
Bullseye!
The bullet hit directly on Bomb Voyage's jetpack that time, smoke billowing out of the gadget as he fell out of the sky in a winding spiral. "Nooooooooo….!"
He landed in a courtyard's fountain with a very large SPLOOSH withthe water drenching the cobblestone ground and soaking the man from head to toe. "No, no, no, it wasn't supposed to be like this, not like this at - GUH!"
My fingers curled around his throat in a tight grasp as I hauled him so close that our noses almost touched.
"I'm not going to ask again." I snarled, enunciating my words. "WHERE… IS… XEREX?"
"NO! I can't tell you, he'll… he'll…"
"Do any worse than me?" I asked, squeezing my hand around his throat much tighter. I can only imagine how much worse it would feel for him if it were my husband's strong chokehold. That's something no one can forget any time soon.
It didn't last though - a sudden beeping noise rang out from Bomb Voyage's comunicator and I let go. After all, if he was going to answer it and reveal Xerex's location, he would need to talk. Only, he wasn't doing anything. He merely stared at it in a daze. I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Well?" I prompted. "Answer it."
He snapped back to reality, rapidly nodding his head in obedience. His voice came out soft and crackled as he radioed back. "Hnn… Bonjour?"
A lilting, British-accented voice answered - a voice I hadn't heard in years, but still recognized for sure.
Xerex.
"Ah… Elastigirl. Or should I address you as Mrs. Incredible now? In any case, it's delightful to gaze upon you one last time."
Gaze? How the heck can he see me? Bomb Voyage's suit didn't seem to hold any cameras on it. And - based on a quick glance around at the property we had landed on - it didn't seem as though there were any around here either. I roughly yanked Bomb Voyage's arm with the communicator and addressed the man directly.
"Save it, Xerex! What are you planning?!"
I heard him chuckle. "My dear Helen. So pedestrian. So predictable." He let out a low laugh. "I look forward to seeing you soon."
