Steve Rogers strode through an underpass, donned in his Captain America uniform. He jogged for the private runway, headed for the grounded chopper. An electro-disabler slammed into the chopper and Steve looked up. Tony and Rhodey both descended from the skies, both donned in their respective armors.
"Wow, it's so weird how you run into people at the airport," Tony commented as his helmet unlatched and he looked at Rhodey. "Don't you think that's weird?"
"Definitely weird," Rhodey agreed.
"Hear me out, Tony," Steve pleaded. "That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this."
T'Challa leaped over the truck and landed besides them, donned in his Black Panther uniform. "Captain," he greeted.
"Your Highness," Steve greeted back.
"Anyway, Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in," Tony said. "That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?"
"You're after the wrong guy," Steve argued.
"Your judgment is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday," Tony barked.
"And there are five more super soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony. I can't," Steve replied.
Natasha entered the fold. "Steve … you know what's about to happen. Do you really wanna punch your way out of this one?"
Steve didn't entertain that question.
"All right, I've run out of patience. Underoos!" Tony called.
Suddenly, another superhero leaped into the fold, a web sling sticking to Steve's shield and stripping it out of his hands while knotting said hands together in web-like substance.
The person from YouTube, Percy recognized, the one people were calling Spider-Man. What was he doing here? Did … Tony recruit him?
Guess Steve wasn't the only busy doing exactly that.
"Nice job, kid," Tony complimented.
"Thanks. Well, I could've stuck the landing a little better. It's just the new suit well- it's nothing, Mr. Stark! It's-it's perfect. Thank you," Spider-Man said.
The person's voice made Percy realize that Spider-Man was really just a kid. He sounded young, even younger than Percy, who was a tender 23 years old. Spider-Man sounded like he could be a high school teenager.
"Yeah, we don't really need to start a conversation," Tony said, trying to get him to stop talking.
"Okay. Cap ... Captain. Big fan, I'm Spider-Man," the web-slinger said.
"Yeah, we'll talk about it later. Just …"
"Hey, everyone," Spider-Man greeted.
"… good job," Tony finished.
"You've been busy," Steve mused.
"And you've been a complete idiot. You recruit Percy, you 'rescue' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep … I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart," Tony argued, his voice cracking.
"You did that when you signed," Steve coldly responded.
"Alright, We're done. You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us. NOW! Because it's us! Or a squad of J-SOC guys … with no compunction about being impolite," Tony demanded. Steve looked away and Tony gave him a pleading look. "Come on."
Falcon radioed in. "We found it. Their Quinjet's in hanger five, north runway."
Steve held his hands up, and out of nowhere a trident came flying and sliced right through Steve's webbed hands before the weapon went flying back to its owner, Percy Jackson, who grabbed the trident as it returned to him. Tony looked back to see where the trident came from.
"Alright, Lang," Steve said.
Spider-Man detected something on the shield in his hand. "Hey, guys, something- ugh!"
Spider-Man was cut off as Ant-Man grew back to normal size and kicked Spider-Man's face while he backflipped, shield in his hand.
"Whoa- what the hell was that?" Rhodey asked.
Scott held the shield out for Steve, who took it back. "I believe this is yours, Captain America."
"Oh, great," Tony muttered as he scanned the parking lot, spotting Percy and Wanda running. "Alright, there's two on the parking deck. One of them's Maximoff, I'm gonna grab her. Rhodey, you want to take Cap?"
Rhodey scanned the terminal. "Got two in the terminal, Wilson and Barnes."
"Barnes is mine!" T'Challa called.
Steve threw his shield at Rhodey, sending him stumbling backwards.
"Hey, Mr. Stark, what should I do?" Spider-Man asked Iron Man.
"What we discussed. Keep your distance. Web 'em up," Tony replied.
"Okay, copy that!"
Steve ran after T'Challa and hit him from behind with his shield, sending him rolling into a somersault. Steve then grabbed him from behind and threw him away.
T'Challa and Steve faced off. "Move, Captain. I won't ask a second time," T'Challa warned. Steve didn't move and T'Challa leaped up, kicking at him three times.
Scott faced off with Natasha. "Look, I really don't want to hurt you," Scott said, casually backing off her.
"I wouldn't stress about it," Natasha retorted.
Natasha kicked Scott right in the groin, before trying to grapple him. Scott shrunk and flipped Natasha. He then tried to pull her arm behind her before she zapped him away and he slammed into a nearby truck, leaving a small dent.
Up on the terminal, Sam and Bucky ran and were startled by the sight of someone wearing and red and blue suit as he crawled along the terminal windows.
"What the hell is that?" Bucky asked.
"Everyone's got a gimmick now," Sam growled.
Spider-Man swung through the glass windows and kicked Sam backwards. Bucky tried to punch Spider-Man but he easily caught his fist.
"You have a metal arm? That is awesome, dude!" Spider-Man exclaimed. Sam suddenly tackled Spider-Man and carried him into the air. "You have the right to remain silent!" Spider-Man managed to fend off Sam and swung after him using his webs.
Back on the runway, Percy and Wanda continued to run for their lives as Tony spotted them and shot rockets to some nearby vehicles, attempting to scare them. Percy and Wanda had to duck for cover in order not to run into the burning truck that exploded in their way.
T'Challa tried several times to slice Steve with his vibranium claws, missing every time. He did manage to leave claw marks on the shield, though. Rhodey pulled out a scary-looking mace.
"Sorry, Cap. This won't kill you but it ain't gonna tickle either," Rhodey said.
T'Challa kicked Steve away and Rhodey launched towards him, bringing his mace down onto him, which Steve blocked with his shield.
Iron Man hovered above Percy and Wanda. "Wanda, I think you hurt Vision's feelings."
"You locked me in my room," Wanda retorted.
"Okay. First, that's an exaggeration. Second, I did it to protect you," Tony justified. He addressed Percy. "Hey, Percy."
"Tony."
"I know you two are sweet on one another but this was the wrong move," Tony said.
"This is the wrong move, Tony," Percy said. "You're stopping from doing something that has to be done. This guy Helmut Zemo-"
"Really, Percy? You're gonna try and pull that in the middle of this? You're not gonna distract me with some BS you and Steve made up," Tony interrupted.
Percy got annoyed and threw his trident at Tony, who dodged and let it sail past him. "Ha, you missed."
Percy shrugged. "Made you look."
A car suddenly came down past Tony. It just missed him and he looked up as more came down from the parking deck, courtesy of Wanda and her telekinesis. Tony is eventually buried under a pile of cars.
"Multiple contusions detected," FRIDAY announced.
"Yeah, I detected that too," Tony muttered back.
Spider-Man swung through the rafters in the terminal, Sam firing shots at him. Spider-Man perched on one of the rafters. "Oh god," he said as he ducked a panel that Bucky threw at him. "Hey buddy, I think you lost this!" Spider-Man threw the panel back at Bucky, who ducked behind cover just in time.
Sam flew in and kicked him off the rafter. Spider-Man then managed to wriggle free before he swung backwards and fired a web right into Sam's jetpack. Sam went crashing down into a store booth for phone cases. He tried to stand up but Sam was then webbed to the railing, rendering him stuck.
"Those wings carbon fiber?" Spider-Man asked curiously.
"Is this stuff coming out of you?" Sam wondered.
"That would explain the rigidity-flexibility ratio, which, gotta say, that's awesome, man," the web-slinger commented.
"I don't know if you've been a fight before but there's usually not this much talking," Sam told him.
"Alright, sorry, my bad," Spider-Man apologized.
Spider-Man swung towards Sam. Bucky got in the way and both him and Sam were sent crashing through the glass railing and to the floor below. Bucky was then webbed up to the floor, along with a tied-up Sam.
Spider-Man perched himself atop a booth. "Guys, look. I'd love to keep this up but I've only got one job here today and I gotta impress Mr. Stark, so, l'm really sorry."
Sam controlled Redwing and it latched onto Spider-Man, dragging him back outside as he cried, "Waaaaahhhh!"
"You couldn't have done that earlier?" Bucky muttered.
"I hate you," Sam muttered back.
Rhodey flew towards Steve, who flip-kicked him and broke his mace. He then roundhouse kicked T'Challa and sent him flying backwards.
"Great," Rhodey muttered as he tossed away his broken mace.
"Hey, Cap, heads up!" Scott said, tossing a miniature truck. "Throw it at this." Scott showed him an enlarging disc. "Now!" Scott threw the disc and Steve threw the truck at it. The truck grew in size until it looked like a normal truck and headed straight for Rhodey.
"Oh come on!" Rhodey exclaimed. The truck exploded in front of Rhodey.
"Oh, man. I thought it was a water truck," Scott said as Steve gave him a chastising look. "Uh … sorry."
"Alright. Now, I'm pissed," Rhodey stated.
"Is this, part of the plan?" Natasha asked sarcastically as Tony helped her to her feet.
"Well, my plan was to go easy on them. You wanna switch it up?" Tony replied.
Percy and Wanda made a turn behind some crates and they spotted the Quinjet in the hangar. "There it is," Percy said. "Quickly, let's get to it."
Percy and Wanda started sprinting for the Quinjet, as Steve, Sam, Bucky and Scott joined them. They suddenly halted to a stop as a fizzing stream of energy sliced across the runway in front of them, courtesy of Vision. The android hovered above them.
"Captain Rogers. I know you believe what you're doing is right. But for the collective good you must surrender now," Vision said.
Vision descended to his feet as Tony, Natasha, T'Challa, Rhodey and Spider-Man joined him. Percy sighed grimly as he stared at the other team and found himself in a very displeasing situation, one where he has to fight his own comrades in order to stop a global threat.
Tony, Natasha, they were allies. Or at least, they were supposed to. Rhodey, Percy briefly met him but he hadn't gotten to know him all that well. Even Vision was someone Percy had worked with to defeat Ultron. T'Challa … well, this was an Atlantean and Wakandan fighting. What else was new? And that new kid, Spider-Man from YouTube, pretty much just got roped into this battle, courtesy of Tony.
The two teams faced each other in a group standoff and neither was backing down. This was not going down well, at all.
"What do we do, Cap?" Sam asked.
Steve clenched his jaw. "We fight."
Screw it, then.
