Iris knew her husband well enough to know when something was bothering him. It could be a variety of things, ranging from his work as a police scientist to his occupation as the Flash.
Regardless, she had told him he could come to her with anything. He had nodded, a tight smile on his face, and responded that he'd like to have a better grip on what it was before worrying her with anything.
This was a lousy habit for him to be in, but Iris was reluctant to attempt to drag the truth out of him. He would tell her when he had a better grasp on the situation, and in the meantime she could try to be as supportive as she could.
One day, Iris hoped that Barry would feel comfortable telling her whenever even a feeling was bothering him, without believing that he needed to be able to scientifically quantify his struggles before reaching out for help with them.
In the meantime, Iris worried that attempting to drag answers out of an unwilling Barry would do more harm than good. Barry usually had a good grasp on his own limits. Iris was willing to trust that he would come to her when he was ready.
Shoving the turkey in the oven, Iris shook her head to clear it as she set the timer on the stove-top.
Cooking for a speedster was a full-time occupation, if she wanted him to eat anything of nutritional value, and this was good, as cooking gave her something to do with her hands as her introspection raged rampant.
Attempting to brush her worries aside, Iris leaned against the counter, breathing deep, cleansing breaths to calm herself down.
A hand brushed over her stomach and her mind drifted into the future.
They would get past this. Of course they would. She and Barry would both grow old together, and they would overcome whatever problems they faced and… Iris realized with a startling jolt that she had already chosen the colors for the baby's room.
She shook her head, pushing off the countertop, chuckling at herself. Wouldn't Barry be amused, that not even a month into their marriage, Iris was well into planning the next ten years.
