Chapter 19: Kuriboh Multiply! The Astonishing Result
"Kaiba, I've drawn the ultimate card." Yami Yuugi declared. "That card is… here it goes! 'Kuriboh', attack mode!"
"You can't be serious…" Kaiba gaped. "That monster with a pathetic attack strength of 300, 'Kuriboh'? Yuugi, have you given up on this duel or what? That's the impression that I'm getting for playing such a weak monster. In 'Duel Monsters', there no other monster with a lower attack. It's a terrible card with a pathetic level. I've never seen anyone put that card into their deck. Yuugi, there's no place for a card like that in our duel. I'll never forgive this insult."
"Kaiba, you've got the wrong idea." Yami Yuugi smirked. "This card is my trump card. It's going to defeat 'Ultimate Dragon'."
"Impossible." Kaiba was shocked. "That pathetic monster is going to defeat my 'Ultimate Dragon'?"
"Here it goes." Yami Yuugi activated his plan. "And now I'll activate the 'Multiply' Magic Card. With this card, a monster with an attack strength of 500 or less will create multiples of itself."
"Those pathetic monsters are multiplying?" Kaiba was stunned when the replicating 'Kuriboh' created a literal wall.
"This monster is indeed one with a low level and a mere 300 attack strength." Yami Yuugi admitted. "But I have a reason for playing it. It has the power to deal with high-level monsters."
"Impossible!' Kaiba exclaimed. "There's nothing those pathetic monsters can do to my 'Ultimate Dragon'. Attack!" he gave the command. "'Ultimate Dragon's attack didn't hit them all?" he was stunned to see the 'Kuriboh' still multiplying. "It can't be… these pathetic monsters have the ability to explode when an opponent attacks so that they negate the attack?"
"Exactly." Yami Yuugi confirmed. "When an attack hits a 'Kuriboh', it explodes. In other words, 'Ultimate Dragon's attack can't destroy them all. If you can't destroy all of the multiplied 'Kuriboh' combo in one attack, you can't hit me. This means that if you can destroy them all in one hit, you can reduce my "Life Points' to zero. But before that, on my turn, I'll play my second trump card. 'Mammoth Skelton', 'Fusion', and the 'Magic Effect Arrow' cards. 'Blue Eyes White Dragon' is a Light-type monster." He explained, using the 'Magic Effect Arrow' card to fuse 'Mammoth Skelton' with 'Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon'. "But now the 'Ultimate Dragon' is fused with a Dark type, Undead Monster, the 'Mammoth Skelton'. With that effect, since the monsters are opposite types, your monster will begin to melt. 'Mammoth Skelton's attack strength is 1200. Which means, the 'Ultimate Dragon's attack strength will be reduced by 1200 each turn."
"This still doesn't mean I've lost." Kaiba stood firm. "Attack, 'Ultimate Dragon'."
"That's useless." Yami Yuugi tsked, the attack, striking the 'Kuriboh' wall. "When they explode, the multiplication continues, so unless you can destroy them all in one hit, your attack is useless. I'll draw my card and end my turn."
"Attack!" Kaiba continued his assault.
"I guess your turn is over." Yami Yuugi remarked, the 'Kuriboh' wall remaining intact. "Kaiba, you're already finished. I'll put a new card into play. The 'Elf Swordsman'. Attack the 'Ultimate Dragon'."
"Yuugi, the game starts here." Kaiba stated, Bakura pointing out that the 'Ultimate Dragon' was not quite dead yet. "With that attack, you reduced my 'Life Points' by 500. I will now begin to take steps based upon my 'Life Points'. From now on, I will take steps backward depending on how many 'Life Points' I lose. 500 points, which means five steps backward. I have no steps left." He added, standing on the ledge of the castle. Next turn, with your attack, I'll lose my true life. I wish to die by the duel."
"Kaiba, you shouldn't do something so dangerous." Anzu warned.
"That bastard…" Jonouchi growled. "Kaiba, that's so damn unfair! Yuugi won't be able to attack you like that."
"But, if it isn't a bluff…" Bakura reminded.
"Yuugi, during your next turn, you'll evolve as a duelist." Kaiba remarked. "This game is just like a mirror. You have to see your own results in the game. If you can truly go on without being concerned with the result, then you can win. If I was you in this duel, I wouldn't let anything stand in my way. But that doesn't mean the duel is over. I'll draw my card for this turn. My card is 'Raise Dead'. With this card, I will resurrect one of the 'Blue Eyes' destroyed heads. Now, one of the 'Blue Eyes' heads, with an attack strength of 3000, has been revived. But since it's part of the fusion, I have to wait for the next turn to attack. Yuugi, take my head with your cards."
With that expression, Atemu will attack, even if Kaiba's there, he'll choose to win. Ami realized.
"Here it comes, Kaiba!" Yami Yuugi declared his attack. "'Elf Swordsman'!"
"Yuugi, don't do it!" Ami shot off towards her cousin, to prevent him from doing something he would regret. "Stop!" she screamed. "Yuugi!" she hugged the fallen duelist.
"I win." Kaiba declared, attacking 'Elf Swordsman' with the revived 'Blue Eyes'.
"I couldn't do it." Yuugi wept, having forced Atemu's spirit back into the Puzzle. "If the game had continued, Kaiba would've died. I'm scared… I'm so scared of the game and of my other self."
"You've finally showed me your weakness, Yuugi." Kaiba jumped off the ledge. "If you hadn't cared for the final result, you could've won."
"No, that's not it." Ami retorted. "You're the one who truly lost the game, Kaiba. Kaiba, you're willing to give up your precious life for those Chips? You lost to yourself! In the end, you couldn't even rely on your own courage! Whatever it is, as long as you have true courage, you'll always have Chips in your soul. Since you ran away, you're the real loser! Yuugi chose your life over those Chips."
