Chapter 20: The Legendary Aqua Army

"Yuugi, take my Star Chips." Jonouchi offered. "You were the one who gave me the Star Chips to enter this tournament in the first place. So these are yours. There's still plenty of time left. I'll just find someone else to duel. So Yuugi, take them. Damnit Yuugi!" he snapped. "Snap out of it and say something. What're you gonna do about your grandfather then?"

"What're you all doing there?" Mai's voice sounded. "Jonouchi, you managed to get ten Star Chips?" she blinked.

"Yeah, but I'm about to give half of them away." Jonouchi replied.

It can't be. Mai realized. Yuugi? "Yuugi lost?" she echoed after the group explained. "You've got to be kidding! You won't be able to enter the castle like this. I won't allow this!"

"If you do that, what about you?" Jonouchi wondered, Mai holding out six Star Chips.

"Just who do you think I am?" Mai retorted.

"She's got sixteen Star Chips in all." Bakura gaped.

"Naturally." Mai shrugged. "I'm here to return these to you. In exchange, fight me in the castle. Sulking?" she scoffed. "If you're so upset from losing one little duel, then you don't deserve your reputation. Fine then, if you are not going to accept them, what do you say about a duel here and now? I assume you have no complaints?"

"Wait," Ami spoke up. "Mai, I'll accept that challenge. If I win, I'll take those Star Chips."

"Hey, come on." Honda protested. "Didn't you say you don't play?"

"That's because I haven't completed my deck yet." Ami replied. "Besides, it's the only way to get Yuugi into the castle. Mai, fight me."

"Give it up." Mai snorted. "Do you really think you can defeat me?"

"I will definitely win." Ami stood firm. "I can't lose."

"Fine, I'll fight you." Mai conceded.

"She's under a lot of pressure." Bakura mused.

"Tell me about it." Anzu agreed. "She's not acting like usual."

"My turn." Ami started. "I place 'Aqua Breath Dracokid' and two cards face down."

"My turn." Mai took her turn. "'Harpy Lady' in attack mode. And I will place this card. Battle!" she declared, taking out 'Aqua Breath Dracokid'.

"My turn!" Ami played her card. "'Bubble Edge Dracokid' in attack mode and activate the 'Tear Dragon's special skill; when there is a 'Tear Dragon' on the field, I check for a second 'Tear Dragon' from my deck and place it in attack mode. I call 'Tri-holl Dracokid'. Battle! 'Tri-holl Dracokid' attacks 'Harpy Lady'."

"How naïve." Mai chided, 'Harpy Lady' deflecting the attack. "I've activated the Magic Card, 'Whip of Roses'. Go, 'Harpy Lady' 'Thorn Ripper'!" she declared, the whip taking out 'Tri-holl Dracokid'. "This is my next one." She took her turn. "I will place a card and end my turn."

Marine General of the Teardrop, Carlos. Ami drew her next card. That means… she looked at her deck. You've come, haven't you? "'Carlos', attack mode!"

"Battle, 'Harpy Lady'!" Mai gave the command. "'Thorn Ripper'!"

"Magic Card activate, 'Emerald Shield, Paschal'!" Ami activated one of her face down cards. "Defense mode." She placed a card face down. "And play the 'Splash Assault' magic card, increasing 'Carlos' attack and defense by 600 and 500 respectively."

"How naïve." Mai tsked. "The Magic Card, 'Cyber Bondage'. And I will activate 'Magic Removal'. I don't know what your hidden monster is, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and find out." And had 'Harpy Lady' attack the face down monster, revealing it to be 'Marine General of the Restless Tides, Algos'. "What?" she was taken aback when 'Carlos' blocked the attack, its defense increasing by 500.

"My turn." Ami took her turn. "With the 'Coral Assault' Magic Card, 'Algos' attack strength is increased by 800. I continue by activating 'Whale Supply Fleet, Kairin Maru'! 'Algos' and 'Carlos' attack strength have been increased by 700."

"The fight's over." Mai declared. "Battle!"

"And," Ami continued. "I destroy 'Cyber Bondage' with the 'Silent Ripple, Sotirio' magic card. Battle, 'Algos', Tidal Saber! 'Harpy Lady' has been defeated."

"I've lost." Mai admitted defeat. "Now you can get into the castle."
