Chapter 21: Driven to Desperation! Temptation's Shadow

"Kaiba's just like Mokuba…" Jonouchi muttered, Pegasus had his men drag the unconscious Kaiba off after trapping his soul into a card.

"Kaiba bet his life on the fight so he could get Mokuba back." Yuugi sobbed. "Even if we want to protect those that are precious to us, that didn't change anything. Pegasus, you…" he glared.

"You have no right to take people's precious things away!" Ami finished her cousin's sentence.

Only Yuugi is left. Pegasus was unfazed. You've come out, 'other' Yuugi. He mused, Yami Yuugi taking over.

"Pegasus, I'm the only one that will defeat you." Yami Yuugi declared.

"Yuugi, if you wish to fight me, you must be the winner of the final tournament." Pegasus reminded.

"I know that." Yami Yuugi snapped. "But you had better be prepared. Until my rage defeats you, this won't end."

"Yo." Jonouchi greeted, opening Yuugi's door the next morning.

"It's finally time, Yuugi." Ami gave her cousin a nod.

"Let's go." Yami Yuugi agreed.

"Yuugi, Jonouchi." Honda started. "While you two take care of things, we'll support you with everything we've got." With that, the group parted.

"Great, just what Yuugi needs right now." Ami muttered, Pegasus taking his seat at the spectator's stands.

"You…" Honda blinked, Jonouchi cutting in-between him and Anzu.

"I can't see pretty good from up here." Jonouchi grinned.

"That's Kujaku Mai's standard tactic." Honda stated, Mai summoning her 'Harpy Lady'.

"And during this turn, I'll play one more card." Mai added, placing a card face-down.

"'Dark Knight Gaia'!" Yami Yuugi summoned his monster. "Attack 'Harpy Lady'."

"Trap Car activate: 'Silver Mirror Wall'!" Mai activated her face-down card. "The 'Silver Mirror Wall' is a Trap Card that reduces the attack strength of my opponent's monster by half. When you stated that you are attacking, a wall of mirror arises before your monster. And when that monster attacks its reflection, its attack strength is reduced by half. My turn. 'Harpy Lady's equipment card, 'Cyber Bondage'. 'Scratch Crush!' 'Dark Knight Gaia' has been annihilated. Yuugi, I caught you in a trap like this? I overestimated you."

"I'll place a card." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "And fight with this card." He summoned 'Demon Summon'. "Go 'Demon, destroy 'Harpy Lady'."

"You've stated that you're attacking, right, Yuugi?" Mai chuckled. "Trap reactivation. Now the 'Demon's attack strength has also been halved."

"I get it." Yami Yuugi realized. "A permanent Trap."

"Exactly." Mai confirmed. "This Trap doesn't get removed from the Field, just like Ami's 'Whale Supply Fleet, Kairin Maru' is a permanent Magic Card. You're slow in figuring that out, Yuugi."

"What's wrong, Yuugi?" Bakura wondered.

"It's this early in the game, and he's already getting kicked around." Jonouchi remarked.

"It isn't like him to fall for the same Trap twice." Ami agreed, frowning. "Could it be…" she turned to Pegasus. "Because of the pressure from Pegasus, Yuugi isn't concentrating on the duel."

"I'm disappointed." Mai admitted. "I thought it would take more than this to push you to your limits. Let's go. The real battle starts now."

"Fine, I accept." Yami Yuugi smirked.

"On this turn, instead of attacking, I'll play this card." Mai activated her Magic Card. "'Harpy's Feather Duster'."

"My placed card was the 'Hexagram Curse'." Yami Yuugi remarked, his face-down card destroyed. "You read me well, Mai. I'll place the 'Demon' in defense mode. And I'll place a new monster in defense mode."

"With the 'Whip of Roses' equipment card, the 'Harpy Lady's attack strength is increased by 300." Mai played her card. "First of all, attack the defending monster. 'Whip Punish'."

"Hey, are you alright, Yuugi?" Honda wondered.

"Yuugi, Mai's gonna split her 'Harpy." Jonouchi warned. "Be careful."

"I'll play a monster in defense mode." Yami Yuugi took his turn.

"With this card, my 'Harpy Combo' is 70% complete." Mai declared, drawing her card. "Even though it's not fully complete, it's more than enough to defeat you. This is my 'Harpy's ultimate servant: 'Harpy's Pet Dragon'. Now, incinerate the 'Demon'. 'Saint Fire Giga'. Yuugi, right now, you're lacking something important. And as long as you can't find it, you have absolutely no way of defeating me. There was something that was said in my duel with Jonouchi. This time, Yuugi, I'll tell you the same thing. 'You can see it, but you can't see it.' Yuugi, you're the one who has to find that answer now."

"I'll place a card and summon 'Black Magician' in defense mode." Yami Yuugi played his turn.

"My card is an equipment card, the 'Seductive Shadow'." Mai played her turn. "The 'Seductive Shadow' has the power to force an attack." She explained, 'Black Magician' was forced into attack mode. "'Harpy's combat pheromones keep her opponents in attack mode. And now, attack the 'Harpy Lady'. Now, I will play this card. 'Harpy's Feather Duster'." She took out Yami Yuugi's 'Mirror Force' Trap Card. "And now 'Harpy's Pet Dragon's attack. 'Saint Fire Giga'. So, what do you think of my 'Harpy Combo', Yuugi?"
