Chapter 28: Match of the Millennium - Yuugi vs. Pegasus Part 2

Where we last left off...

My cards, we're about to face the Master of the Kingdom, the strongest duelist. Yami Yuugi prayed. Let's fight as one.

Yuugi boy is like a small animal struggling for breath,as I crush him with my hands. Pegasus smirked. For I know every single card in your entire hand. Mind Scan! He activated the Millennium Eye's power.

That gaze that pierces through my cards... Yami Yuugi sensed the Eye's ability. That feeling isn't just my imagination.

Summoned Skull, am I right? Pegasus' smirk widened.

He's reading my mind...! Yami Yuugi realized. But there's nothing I can do to stop it.

"Yuugi, don't let Pegasus shake you." Anzu encouraged.

"Bakura?" Ami blinked, seeing the white-haired teen leave.

"I'm just... going to look for Honda." Bakura replied.

"Geez, that Honda." Jonouchi complained. "What's he doing at such an important time?"

Yuugi boy, I've already read your plan for this turn. Pegasus snorted. You will set the Trap Card 'Spell-Binding Circle', face-down on the field. You will then play 'Summoned Skull' in defense position. You're going to try to tempt my monsters into attacking you.

"I set a card face-down on the field." Yami Yuugi placed his card. "Also, 'Summoned Skull' in defense position. Turn over."

"Okay, my turn." Pegasus took his turn. Very well, I'll walk right into your trap. We'll see who's really trapped in the end, shall we? "I change 'Ryu-Ran' into attack mode. Attack Summoned Skull."

"Trap activate." Yami Yuugi countered. "'Spell-Binding Circle'. The one who attacks this card falls into its trap."

"Oh no!" Pegasus feigned astonishment.

"My turn!" Yami Yuugi took his turn. "I switch 'Summoned Skull' to attack mode. Attack 'Ryu-Ran'. 'Magical Thunder Shock'!"

"Trap card, activate." Pegasus countered. "'Trap Displacement'. With this card, I can take a Trap Card used against one of my monsters and transfer it to my opponent's. I know every strategy you have. They have no effect on me. 'Dragon Flame'."

He's completely reading every one of my strategies... Yami Yuugi was stunned after the fire blast took out 'Summoned Skull'. How do I fight?

"My turn." Pegasus drew a card.

So this is the power of Pegasus' Millennium Eye. Yami Yuugi mused. There has to be a way to stop his Mind Scan.

"No," Pegasus interjected. "There is no way to stop it, Yuugi boy. A game is a contest between two minds. If you can understand the mind of the opponent, you are guaranteed to win. You don't have the power to step even one foot into the territory of my mind. And that include the world of the game I created as well. Allow me to show this to you right now. My card is... 'Toon World'." he activated the Spell Card. "'Toon World' is the design of the ultimate game world I created." he explained, as the pink smoke from the opened book engulfed both 'Ryu-Ran' and 'Red Archery Girl'. The Toon characters are the best. That's right." he nodded when the book reopened to reveal Ryu-Ran and 'Red Archery Girl' in their Toon forms. "My wonderful monsters have turned into invincible Toon monsters. Furthermore, all my Toon monsters can only be defeated by other Toon monsters. I'm sorry, Yuugi boy. Toon 'Ryu-Ran', attack the monster he was set in defense position. 'Giant Soldier of Stone' has been annihilated." he took out the rock soldier with one hit. "After launching their attacks, my Toon monsters hide themselves deeply within Toon World. A world where your monsters can never reach." he bragged. "I place 'Toon Mermaid' in attack position and end my turn."

"'Celtic Guardian'." Yami Yuugi summoned his next monster. "Attack Mode. 'Celtic Guardian', attack 'Toon Mermaid'! What?" he gaped when the hands on the shell stopped the raised sword.

"It's no use, Yuugi boy." Pegasus tsked. "Toon monsters have the special ability to not be destroyed by normal attacks. "Toon Mermaid Arrow!" he counterattacked, taking out 'Celtic Guardian' with one hit.

As I thought, attacks against Toon monsters are impossible. Yami Yuugi hissed.

"That is correct." Pegasus confirmed. "Toons can only be defeated by Toons. Toon are the perfect form of life. It's my turn. I will place two cards face-down on the field and end my turn.

"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "A monster in defense mode."

"I thought you would." Pegasus smirked. "This turn, I'll open my set card. I activate my Trap Card, 'Gorgon's Eye'." forcing 'Horn Imp' to reveal itself, 'Gorgon's Eye' then petrified the imp. "This Card is a permanent Trap that turns all the opponent's monsters into a useless statue. Furthermore, when your stone monsters are destroyed, half their defense points will be subtracted from your Life Points. In other words, you have no choice but to attack my Toon in every single turn. What useless attacks they'll be, eh? Now then, it's my turn. I'll also summon another one of my lovely, funky friends. The Magic Card, 'Copycat'! It's a copy card that takes on the effect of any card it chooses from the opponent's side of the field. Yuugi boy, it seems he would like to change into 'Summoned Skull' you played a few turns back. And furthermore, Toon World is present on the board. Are you are aware of what that means? Now, go forth." at that' 'Copycat' dived into the 'Toon World' book, taking on 'Summoned Skull's appearance. "A new page called 'Evil Castle' will no open in 'Toon World'. Now come on out here, my Toon 'Summoned Skull'. What do you think, Yuugi boy?" he taunted. "Toon 'Summoned Skull', attack! The stone 'Imp' is destroyed. And due to the effect of 'Gorgon's Eye', you will lose half the defense points of the 'Imp, 500, from your Life. My turn is over. How was that, Yuugi boy? Doesn't it feel weird being attacked by your own monster? It is your turn. I see you've drawn 'Dark Magician'." he remarked.

As long as 'Toon World' remains on the field, I can't damage him in any of my attacks. Yami Yuugi thought. But I can't defend myself either. Is there any way I can win in this situation?

"No!" Pegasus retorted firmly. "You cannot possibly defeat me. I can clearly see your will to fight drifting away. Well, what do you think? Do you want to forfeit this duel, Yuugi boy?"

But right now, my chance of winning is as close to zero as it can possibly get... Yami Yuugi gritted his teeth. I... if I give up now, all three of their souls will be lost forever. Even if my chances of victory are low, I still can't give up. Pegasus, I won't give up. I'll bet every little possibility I have until the very end.

It is no use, Yuugi boy. Pegasus was sure of his victory. No matter how hard you struggle, you are still finished.
