Chapter 29: Match of the Millennium - Yuugi vs. Pegasus Part 3

Where we last left off...

"'Black Magician' in attack mode." Yami Yuugi played his turn. "Also, 'Magical Hats'." by using the 'Black Magician' in combo with the 'Magical Hats', I may be able to stop Pegasus from reading my attacks.

"I see." Pegasus noted. "I'm sure you plan to use this to stall time to to find out a way to stop my Toon World. But I'm afraid that is a waste of time. Yuugi boy, your conscious will tell me which Magical Hat you hide 'Black Magician' in. So that means by you knowing, I am also able to learn which hat he is hiding under. I'm going to guess that you hid 'Black Magician' under the 'Magical Hat' to the very left."

I knew it... Yami Yuugi hissed. He read through me.

"Are you prepared, Yuugi boy?" Pegasus declared.

Not even the 'Magical Hats' combo works against him... Yami Yuugi realized his tactic had already been seen through. I can't find a way to defeat the power of Pegasus' Millennium Eye.

"Toon 'Summoned Skull'," Pegasus called his monster, just as the Millennium Puzzle started shining. "Attack one of the 'Magical Hats'. 'Black Magician' has been reduced to ash." he grinned, the lightning having struck it's target. Why?" he was puzzled when the counter remained unchanged. "'Black Magician's data didn't disappear. The card is still on the board. Unbelievable! Are you telling me I somehow managed to miss the 'Black Magician'?" impossible! I should have read Yuugi boy's mind perfectly.

"I was able to hide the location of the 'Magical Hat' 'Black Magician' was hiding in using my subconscious." Yuugi explained, having swapped out with his other half. "Looks like you couldn't read the other mind, my mind, after all."

"You are..." Pegasus gasped. "Another mind of Yuugi boy."

"That is..." Anzu realized what had happened.

"Anzu, what does he mean by 'another mind'?" Jonouchi asked.

"A separate mind." Anzu explained. "Not long ago, Yuugi told me himself he had another person inside him."

"What do you mean by that, Yuugi?" Jonouchi pressed, utterly confused.

"I didn't tell you guys, but the me that duels isn't the usual me." Yuugi replied. "I'm always resting in my heart,. I change to my Other Self when I fight. And I just watch from within my heart. But in this duel, I could just stay hidden and watch as my Other Self suffers."

"So you pulled him back into the soul room of the Millennium Puzzle." Ami surmised.

"That's right." Yuugi nodded. "You may find it hard to believe, since I solved the puzzle, me and my other self have been taking turns at living. It's my turn. I'll play this card face-down on the board and end my turn." he drew a card. "Pegasus, do you know what card o just drew and played face-down on the board is? Just try reading my mind. You'll know once you do, right?"

"Of course." Pegasus smirked. "Mind Scan! Why?" he was shocked. "There's no image of the set card."

"Sorry," Yami Yuugi snorted. "But I don't know what that set card is either. Reading my mind is pointless, Pegasus."

His mind just switched again... Pegasus realized.

"Pegasus, it seems to take you quite a large amount of time to read the opponent's mind with your Millennium Eye." Yami Yuugi remarked. I switched minds while you were busy trying to read me. The way to beat your Millennium Eye is the Mind Shuffle. Now then, it's your turn, Pegasus."

"Unbelievable." Pegasus shook his head. "The 'Black Magician's location in the hats... even that set card. For it all to be concealed by the other Yuugi boy's mind. But as long as Toon World remains on my side of the field, your monsters can't attack me. The 'Black Magician' can only hide in the silk hats for three turns."

"Pegasus, then pick the correct 'Magic Hat'." Yami Yuugi goaded. "Or are you just a coward who can't trust your own intuition unless you rely on your Millennium Eye?"

"Now that you mention it, it has been several years since I relied on my own instincts." Pegasus noted. "Toon 'Summoned Skull'." he summoned the monster and had it attack the middle hat. "No!" he cursed. "I missed again!"

"What a pity." Yami Yuugi smirked. "You've missed again. Pegasus, since you are the creator of Duel Monsters, I'm sure you're aware of this. Every game has to have a winner and a loser. So, what do you suppose separates the two from one another? It's good judgment needed to know the rules and assess the situation of the game. And the instincts to decide when and how to act. Whoever has these two things is the winner. Judgment comes from experience and confidence. Instinct requires divine courage. But you've relied on the Millennium Eye's power for far too long and you've lost the instincts of a duelist. When it comes to true courage, my partner is far superior to you."

"They switched minds again..." Pegasus hissed once Yami Yuugi switched out with Yuugi.

"It's my turn." Yuugi drew the 'Magic Effect Arrow' card. "I'll place this card face-down and end my turn."

"It's your turn." Yami Yuugi remarked, both souls swapping out almost immediately.

"My turn." Pegasus drew the 'Magical Neutralizing Force' card. "My card is the 'Magical Neutralizing Force'. I will activate this card's effects on your side of the field. This card wipes out the magic effects of every card on the opponent's side of the field. In other words, the magical effects of your 'Magic Hats' will disappear. And this is 'the end', Yuugi boy." he bragged after the two remaining 'Magic Hats' vanished. "Skilled duelists don't need instincts. They use their brains to strategize and to avoid taking risks. Come forth, Toon 'Summoned Skull'! Attack 'Black Magician'!"

"Now!" Yuugi swapped in. "Set card open! 'Magic Effects Arrow'! Pegasus, you didn't notice, did you? While I was drawing cards, the other me was trying to stall you. And once you get frustrated, you tried to play a card that would take out the effect of 'Magic Hats'."

"But what was what we were aiming for." Yami Yuugi took over. "Now all magical effects sent our way are sent back to you at the same time. Pegasus, we're using the 'Magic Effects Arrow' to return the effects of 'Magic Neutralizing Force to you!"

"But you're too late." Pegasus grinned. "You can't stop Toon 'Summoned Skull's attack. 'Black Magician' is defeated." he declared once the attack hit.

"Too bad." Yuugi swapped back in. "The other card I set; the Trap Card 'Mirror Force'. And the magical attacks passes through the barrier and takes out Toon World. The Toon monsters return to their original forms and appear on the field."

"NO!" Pegasus screamed, seeing the reflected attack take out all three of his monsters. "Unbelievable! My beloved monsters have all..." to think Yuugi boy's two minds could overcome my Mind Scan... he mused. "Wonderful." he grinned. "Exactly what I would expect from one chosen by the Millennium Items. It seems I was playing around far too much. I must now face you in this duel with the power and respect you deserve. Yuugi boy, from now on, this will be a fight between two people chosen by the Millennium Items. Let's settle this with a Shadow Game." activating his Millennium Eye, he started the Shadow Game.
