Chapter 2 – The Accident Part 2

(Haruhi's P.O.V)

Like straight out of a fairy tail, when I opened my eyes I wasn't in Japan any more.

To be honest though I had no idea where the hell I was… I'm not in a hospital, wait! Wasn't I hit by a car?! Am I dead?! I quickly bolted to my feet but shortly sat back down my head spinning. OK Haruhi… Breathe… I looked around some more and deduced I wasn't in heaven nor did I believe that I was in hell. I lay on my back, staring up at the sky. The scent of roses all around me started to fill my nose. I felt the cool grass, and watched the midnight sky, as the stars started to make their appearance. I finally got my nerves to calm down and I sat up to try looking around again. I didn't see anything that really stood out but I did find a letter next to me. Picking up the letter in big black scribbled handwriting was,

Follow the cookie crumbs.

Oh you have got to be kidding me. I rolled my eyes looking around to see if this was a joke, expecting for one of the host members to pop out at any minute. But there was no one here. "How? Where am I supposed to go?" I yelled up into the night sky more confused now then when I had first woken up. Looking back down at the piece of paper I watched the next sentence appear.

Let the wind guide you.

I sighed and stood to my feet one more time. This was the first time I actually took in my own appearance. My uniform was completely trashed. Great, I haven't even finished paying this one off yet… Kyoya's gonna give me so much grief for this. Kyoya… I felt my face heating up the thoughts of what brought me to this predicament in the first place flooding back. "Ugh.. Why me?" I said out loud to myself. But drawing me from my thoughts I felt the wind start to pick up. Picking up some rose petals that had fallen they blew and swirled all around me. Feeling like soft hands grabbing onto me, the wind led the way.

After being pulled along, the wind suddenly died and the roses dropped from the air when we reached the bottom of a hill. Atop hill was an old tree, I ran towards it to find another note.

Put me on.

Suddenly one of the branches lowered to reveal a dress. It was A simple white dress that came down just below my knees. It synched and laced up in the bust area and hand short puff sleeves. It reminded me of the dresses Tamaki is always trying to get the twins to dress me up in. I changed into the dress and slipped off my socks and shoes as well. I couldn't explain it but this place was… Calming. I smiled, feeling the cool grass again this time tickling my bare feet. "What next," I hollered into the night air. The note that was attached to the tree changed once again just like the first one.

Listen and smell.

What does that mean? Can't these notes be a little less cryptic. I thought to myself as I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate. When I did, the smell of fresh water, like how it smells right after it rains, hit my nose along with the sound of running water. I opened my eyes and looked down the hill to see a small wooden dock leading out into a river with a boat docked at the end. How did I miss that before? I hesitated but proceeded down the hill towards the boat and saw a cloaked man standing next to it. "Hello," I said. The cloaked figure looked at me. I could not see his face or any part of him, except for two glowing red eyes. The man, I mean I'm assuming it's a man, then handed me a note, with his skeleton hand.

Almost there…

I read the note out loud and looked back at him. The cloaked man then handed me a single white rose, while offering me his hand. I took it. He helped me into the boat, I sat down and we started moving. The cloaked man pushed us along with a giant stick. I watched the night sky pass not knowing where we were going. Watching as the stars passed by us, I noticed the sky was starting to change. It got darker and there were sudden images that started playing out like a movie being projected.

First there was a little girl playing with her parents. She was the center of their world, and she was so happy spending time with mother and father. The pictures changed to the same girl just a little older standing with her father at a funeral. Silent tears streamed down the two's faces, the father picking up his child and walking away from the grave. Again the images changed to flashes this time. Haruhi watched as this child aged, learning how to cook, clean, wash the laundry, and grow up way too fast. Never once did she blame her father, for he was always away working. Unfortunately though this left the girl home scared and alone often to fend off her demons by herself.

I stared at the sky knowing exactly whose life was playing out before me. It was mine…I felt the tears begin to fall down my cheeks and once again the images changed. The girl was now older and brilliant but blocked out others and the world around her that wasn't school related. "I really am dead… aren't I?" I asked the cloaked man but he said nothing, continuing to push us forward. The images changed again, now I was in school, at the host club. Hikaru, Kaoru, Tamaki, Hunny, and Mori, all around me. All the cosplay we dressed in. All those silly games Tamaki had us play. All the time each of the hosts would do one thing or the other to make me think differently about them. Then there was Kyoya, always sitting in the background. Always watching everything and everyone. Then they changed for the last time. The last image was me and Kyoya, it was him kissing me, and me running away… The tears were falling heavier now as the full reality of my situation sunk in.

As the boat came to a stop I rubbed my eyes and dried my face. The cloak man helped me out and I bowed thanking him. He nodded his head, handed me a final note and took off back down the river once again. The sky lit back up turning to its starry midnight blue once more and I read the note.

Follow the stones

It said and I quickly found the stone path it was talking about. I walked for a while till I found a giant gazebo with a woman sitting inside. She seemed to glow just like one of the stars above. Long white blonde hair appearing to be in her early twenties. She wore a dress just like mine but it was black. Her eyes were a brilliant emerald green and she had feathered wings. White wings that the weathers faded from white to grey to black as they reached the tips. I stood outside staring at her until she waved me in.

"Hello Haruhi." She said her voice was just as calming as the world around her.

"You… You're the one who has been writing all those notes? Please, please give me some answer on what's happening…"

"And you will receive those answers in time I promise. Let's start with the simple ones for now."

"O..Ok then who are you and where am I?" I ask. She giggles softly.

"My name is Angelica. People have many names for this place. Limbo, Tartrus, whatever you chose, they all have one thing in common. You are in the place between life and death, this is where you will be judged."

"So… So I am dead." I took a seat in the metal chair that sat across from her.

She smiles, shaking her head, "no darling, just between worlds at the moment." Angelica then sat up straight, spreading her wings wide and placed what looked like a giant crystal ball on top of the table in between us. "Now before you ask more questions just watch." I lean forward watching closely as images start to play out.

Sirens were wailing, as the paramedics raced down the streets trying to stabilize a young girl that got hit by a car. Once at the hospital she was raced straight back to surgery, doctors spent hours stabilizing her. Three broken ribs, a broken arm with dislocated shoulder and skull fracture, it took everything they had to bring her back from the brink of death. Once in a room of her own with monitors hooked up watching her every move the doctor finally took a breathe looking at his nurse,

"Nurse, what is the name of this young lady?" He asked with exasperation clear in his voice.

"Her student ID, says Haruhi Fujioka." The nurse answered.

"Wait, did you say Fujioka?"

"Yes sir I did."

"Oh no…."

"What is it sir?"

"This girl is a very close friend to a young man I know… I need to make a call, stay with her and keep an eye on her." The nurse nodded her head while the doctor exited the room to the closest phone and started dialing the number.

"Hello?" a young male's voice answered.

"Good evening Mr. Ootori, this is Doctor Lee from the hospital."

"Good evening Doctor Lee, what's going on, do I need to get my father for you?" The young man's voice clearly indicated he was woken up.

"No sir, I was calling to reach you. You have a friend named Haruhi Fujioka correct? Well she was hit by a car tonight, and was rushed in." There was no response on the other end of the line, just the click of the phone call being ended.

However in a black sports car was Kyoya Ootori speeding down the highway to the hospital. "Stupid… stupid girl! Why the hell did you go and get yourself hurt… It was just a kiss… NO! This is on me. I… I should have gone after her!" Kyoya mentally yelled at himself. He sniffed and whipped a tear away that dared to escape. He got back his composer, and kept speeding down the highway. Once at the hospital Kyoya found Doctor Lee and asked about Haruhi's condition.

Doctor Lee explained all of her injuries to the young man. "She was pretty unstable when we got her. Right now as it stands she is in a coma. We don't know when she will wake up."

"I see…." Kyoya said, swallowing his feelings back to remain stoic "If you would excuse me I need to make a few phone calls. I will inform her father of what is going on, could you tell me what room she is in?"

"She is right down the hall, room 23, third door on the left." The doctor left and Kyoya pulled out his cell to call a worried Ranka. Kyoya calmly spoke to the girl's father informing him about his daughter's accident, and her current condition. Within twenty minutes Ranka was at the hospital walking down to Haruhi's room with Kyoya.

He kneeled at his daughter's bedside, taking her hand in his. The tears were freely falling now seeing her condition. Just the thought of her never waking up again, never getting to see her bright smiling face, was sickening. Kyoya wasn't dealing too well with it either, though he kept his composure. He also thought he should hold off telling the host club for now, They didn't need Tamaki being hysterical in the hospital this late.

"Kyoya, how did you know this happened?" Asked Ranka, snapping the shadow king out of his thoughts.

"A friend of the family is a doctor here. He called me once he figured out who the girl was."

"Oh…. Thank you Kyoya. For everything. You have always kept me informed. Without you, I probably would have never known that my daughter had gotten in an accident. Or know anything she does for that matter."

Kyoya nodded his head and excused himself from the room. "I will be heading home now," he said. Once back in his car, he slammed his head down on the steering wheel and gripped it with all his might. "You stupid girl…" he said out loud as the tears started to fall again.

(Haruhi's P.O.V Back in Limbo)

I sat there watching the scene unfold in front of me. But like when Kyoya had kissed me, I didn't know what to do, and I didn't quite understand it. The images faded and I sat back in my chair looking at Angelica, she had a smirk across her lips

"Understand now?" she asked. I shook my head no.

"Ok shall I fill in the blank for you then?" She asked, this time I nodded.

"You heard what the doctor said, right? Your injuries were very extensive. Well when a person is forced into such a deep coma as you are. Their mind is sent here." Angelica paused, letting me process what she was saying. "Normally in such a case the person is given two options. To move on, OR to continue on in the hands of the Fates. In that case they would stay here with me watching over. If their bodys are strong enough to recover, they are sent home. Now with you however, you are a very special case. I am giving you a third choice." She said a sadistic smile growing on her once perfect features.

"And what is this third choice?" I ask hesitantly.

"Think of it as playing a game… A game that is giving you a for sure second chance at love and life. Make a deal with me and if you win I will return you to your body fully healed out of death's grasp."

"And if I lose?" I asked.

Angelica's eyes turned a sinister crimson red and her smile got even bigger. "If you lose, you will be forced to stay here wandering limbo, alone for all eternity…. As my new pet… So do we have a deal?"
