The next chapter is up! Enjoy :)
Eve awoke with a start when she heard the house phone ring. She grumbles and reaches over to her nightstand to grab it. The Caller I.D. stated it was Lina.
"Hello?" She croaked.
"Eve? You, ok? We're all wondering where you are and why you haven't been answering your iphone. Something happen?" Lina asked, with worry in her voice.
"Yeah, sorry. I'm fine. I've been meaning to call you guys and let you know I sadly won't be going out today. Unfortunately, I lost my iphone at some point." Eve replied. She paused for a moment, before asking her question.
"Umm, what's today's date?" She asks.
"It's Tuesday, the seventh. You sound out of it. Did we wake you?" Lina asked.
"Somewhat, like I said, I had a very rough night." Eve repeated.
"It must've been, since you rarely take off. Would you like one of us to stop by later after work?" Lina asks.
"Rain check on that one. But I will give you guys a call at some point later today. If just to see how everything went out there." Eve replied.
"Alright, but Drew says you dropped your wallet. We found it on the floor of the boat today when we boarded it. It must've fell out of your coat pocket when you left yesterday." Line informed her.
Eve's eyes widen slightly in surprise. And here she thought her wallet was completely lost while she went from her reality to the other. She didn't even bother checking her coat pockets when she got in her car yesterday at the Marina. Talk about lucky. It certainly saved her the trouble of going out and getting a new license, debit card, and credit card.
Still, she knew it will be hard explaining the accident. It did cross her mind that the police may come knocking at her door. After all, all they had to do was plug the license plate number into their computers and her name and address will pop up. How was she going to explain to them that she was alive and ok? They will no doubt think it strange that she somehow escaped unscathed from that accident.
She couldn't lie to them either and tell them someone took off with her car, because there wouldn't be anyone present in the vehicle when it crashed. Eve thought hard on what answers she could provide for the police. But only one excuse/lie came to mind and even then, it didn't sound like a good one.
Eve was so lost in thought, she forgot she was still on the phone with Lina. Who was calling her name in a worried tone.
"Eve? Eve? You still there?" Lina asked.
She snapped out of her stupor and answered back.
"Yeah, sorry about that. A lot's been on my mind. Don't worry about me. And you can tell Drew to swing by with my wallet as soon as you guys get in. I'll be here." Eve assured her.
"Ok. Well, if you need anything, just give us a call. Hopefully, you can find your phone." Lina said.
"Sadly, I may have to get a new one. But it is what it is. Tell Matt to get some great candid shots and footage for me. And hopefully, a bull seal won't try to hump him again." Eve jokes.
There was laughter on the other end and Eve could've sworn she heard someone mention something in the background. It was most likely Matt himself.
"Yeah, no promises there. We'll see you later." Lina says.
"Alright, see you guys later. Don't have too much fun without me now." Eve teased.
"Don't worry, we will be busy celebrating now that you're not here." Lina replies.
Eve rolls her eyes, "Yeah sure, later Bitch."
"Bye, Cunt." Was Lina's last reply before she hung up.
Afterwards, the young woman dropped her head back onto her pillow with a sigh. Between dealing with her new 'house guest', talking to the cops, and getting a new phone it was already gearing up to be one hell of a day. Speaking of which, she should probably go check on him. It's been very quiet. Hopefully, he hasn't croaked at some point during the night.
She sat up with a stretch, before getting out of bed. Eve looked at her small digital clock on her nightstand, 8:43am. Eve let's out another sigh as she runs her hand through her long-tangled locks. No wonder they were calling. They usually set out for the open ocean around 8:15pm. And because of this, Eve was generally up around 7:30am on workdays.
Eve headed out of her bedroom and walked down the hall to the living room. She paused in the doorway and stared across the room at Frieza, who was still on the couch where she left him. A sense of relief hit her when he moved slightly. It confirmed that he was at least still alive. Though most likely in a shit ton of pain.
She quietly approached the couch. He wouldn't see her coming because the couch was facing away from the hall and towards the fireplace. From her position, all she could really see was the top of his head resting on top of the couch pillow in the corner.
"How are you feeling? Any better this morning?" She asked, as she came to stand beside him.
He slowly dragged his gaze to her.
"Not really, still in a great deal of pain." Frieza replied.
He sounded rather groggy and had some dark circles under his eyes, indicating he had a rough night and most likely didn't sleep well. The tyrant seemed downright pitiful looking now. And despite everything she has been through, Eve felt a little sorry for him. She blames the feelings on her always being very empathetic towards others plight. As a joke, she visited a psychic once a few years back with Lina. And supposedly, the psychic informed her that she was what was called an Emotional Empath.
The woman told her what she would experience with that gift. In a way, a lot of it did describe Eve. There were definitely times she felt another's emotional pain and, in some cases, their physical pain. It always hit her in the same spot too, her heart. When someone's pain did hit her, her chest would ache, and she can only describe the feeling as feeling heartbroken.
And the last time she felt that way; was last night with Frieza. The pain she heard in his voice, the pleading. It tugged hard at her heart, hard enough to make her want to cry. His pain and fear truly got to her when he got struck by that car last night. Its why, she felt she needed to help him. Eve couldn't just leave him there like that. Even now, she feels for him, and still wants to help anyway she can.
"Did the painkillers work at all last night?" She asked.
"Somewhat. But there are some areas where the pain is more consistent. Preferably my lower right leg. And it also hurts when I breathe. The pain coming from my lower right side near my ribs." He informed her.
"You mind if I take a look?" She asks.
Frieza was silent for a moment. Eventually, he nods and starts pushing down the blanket. Eve helps and pulls it down to his waist. She leans over slight and tells him to try and point to the area in question. He winces as he lifts his arm and lightly rests his fingers over the area. It looked to be around his lowest ribs. She then asks him to move his hand so she can see.
Eve saw some light bruising around the area. She lightly pressed her own fingers to it and felt it. He hissed in pain and tried batting her hand away.
"What are you doing? You're making it worse by doing that." He hisses, in pain.
"I'm trying to see if they may be broken. Luckily, nothing felt loose or was moving. You probably bruised them. Unfortunately, either way it will take time for them to heal. The best we can do is put ice on the area and I will have to go out and grab some ibuprofen for you for the pain. It will also be more beneficial for you to either sit up or lay on your back." She stated.
Frieza quirked an eye ridge, "Do you have a background in medicine?"
She shakes her head, "Not much, at the most I took basic anatomy and learned a bit about bodily injuries. One of my coworkers had bruised ribs once and his looked a lot like yours do now. And as I said, there sadly isn't much you can do in regard to rib injuries. The best form of healing is time and rest."
He's silent for a few moments as he studies her.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you giving me aide when I don't deserve it?" Frieza asks.
Eve is unsure how to answer him at first. When she does open her mouth to say something, she was interrupted by a knock on her front door. She noticed him tense up, his blood red orbs drift to the door then back to her face. She told him to wait. And she turned around. A sinking feeling dropped into her stomach when she thought she saw the familiar flash of red and blue lights peak through the sides of her blinds.
'Shit, didn't think they'd come this soon. And odds are they will probably want to come in to talk to her. That means, she will have to move Frieza to another room. Less they see him and go trigger happy.
She jumped when she heard another knock, this time it was louder and more insistent. Eve approached the door but didn't open it.
"Give me a moment, I'll be right there." She says, through the door.
Then she quickly makes her way back over to the couch.
"I'm sorry, I know your still hurting. But I need to move you and fast." Eve blurts out hastily.
He grunts in disapproval but nods and slowly sits up. She noticed how he grit his teeth from the simple movement and realized this will be harder than she thought. Once he was in sitting position, he dragged his legs out in front of him. But not without letting out a small groan of pain. That's when she noticed his lower right leg looked really swollen.
'Fuck! By the looks of that, it has to be broken! Double Fuck!' Her mind screamed.
"It's the police, open up." Came a muffled voice.
"Yes, just a moment." She said back, as calmly as she could.
She placed her arm around his back for support and hauled him up to stand. Frieza let out another groan of pain, this time it was louder.
"Ma'am are you ok!? Open up!" The policeman repeated.
"In a moment, Sir! I just need to grab my robe!" She replied back, as she hastily half dragged/pulled Frieza around the couch. He tried moving as quickly as he could on one leg. With each step he took though, his right leg screamed in protest. He bit the inside of his cheek trying to deal with the shooting pain as they hobbled down the hall.
They stopped at the first door on the right which was eight feet down the hall. It thankfully was already open, so she shuffled him in there. It was her Study and the couch that was in there happened to be a futon. She sat him down on it as carefully and quickly as possible. Then closed the door while she rushed from the room. She ran the three feet further down and made a sharp left into her bathroom and ripped the robe off of the hook on the inside of her door.
Eve rushed back down the hall and glanced at the couch to see if anything was out of the ordinary. Luckily, she did a good job the night before cleaning the small blood stains off of her leather couch. And if anyone asks, she can just tell them she fell asleep on the couch. She did her assessment within a few seconds before quickly finding herself in front of her front door.
She takes a deep breath and calmly opens the door. One policeman and a policewoman were standing there. And by the looks on their faces they were a bit surprised at who answered the door.
"May we come in please, Ma'am?" The female officer asked.
"Sure." Eve says with a nod and opens the door a little more for them.
Both officers' step in and briefly look around before turning their attention to her. They have her a once over, and Eve was having a bit of a hard time showing she wasn't nervous.
"There was an accident last night on Bradley Hill Road. It involved two vehicles. Both of which were completely totaled. One of the vehicles were registered under your name. And while the other driver was present when help arrived, police were baffled when they couldn't find the driver of your vehicle. At first, they automatically assumed the person was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. But when they looked around the general vicinity, they couldn't locate the person.
We came here to notify whoever else lived here of the accident. Only to be quite surprised to see the owner of the vehicle standing before us now. And seeing as you don't appear to be injured from what we can see, we can only assume that possibly someone else may have been driving your car. And if that be the case, then they are still out there somewhere. Bodies have been known to fly hundreds of yards from a crash site. So perhaps, we just haven't found them yet." The male officer informed her.
It was now or never, Eve hated lying, even more so to the police. But in circumstances such as this, she didn't have much of a choice.
"It...it was me that was driving. I...I knew I was about to crash and wouldn't be able to move out of the way in time. In my panic I...jumped from the car before it hit. I'm so sorry, the other car was right upon me and coming fast. All I saw were bright lights in my vision. So, I quickly threw open the door and threw myself out.
I...I was so dazed and in shock. I ended up stumbling home. I'm so sorry! Are they ok?" She asked, tears now streaming down her face.
Hopefully, she looked believable, even with the tears.
"They were very banged up. But their blood alcohol was through the roof and apparently were driving down the wrong side of the road. Because of this, you're not at fault. In all honesty, we're surprised how far this guy made it in his car. Seeing how intoxicated he was. Another test earlier this morning also came back positive on them for cocaine." The female officer spoke.
Eve's eyes widened as she put a hand to her mouth.
"Oh my God!" Her voice muffled behind her hand.
That wasn't an act. She really was shocked at how messed up the other guy was. Sure, she felt horrible for the condition he was currently in. But what he did was also plain reckless and dangerous.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Will he be alright though?" She asks, genuinely concerned.
"Well, his airbag deployed upon impact. He still received a broken nose, a bruised jaw, and some broken ribs though. Sadly, when he does recover, we will still have to book him. Guy already has a rap sheet and a few collars. And unfortunately, this isn't the first time he drove while under the influence. So, he's in some serious hot water." The female officer replied.
Eve nods, a few more tears left her eyes.
"Are you sure you're alright? You may still want to seek medical attention." The male officer suggested in concern.
"I'm fine. I actually found myself landing in a snowdrift. So, I wasn't really hurt. Just extremely shook up and in shock. I really didn't mean to leave the scene. I must've been disoriented from the shock and trauma. And the only thing on my mind was 'Home'. If there is anything you need from me, I'll come down to the station and fill out any paperwork." Eve suggested.
"Yes, we will eventually need a statement from you. But it can wait until you're feeling a bit better." The female officer said.
Eve nods, "I can come by tomorrow if that is alright. I have another car in my garage I can take."
"That's fine. Though I still think you may want to see a doctor. Shock and Trauma are no less serious than physical injuries." The female officer advised.
"I thank you for your advice, and I'll look into it." Eve says.
The three of them chatted for a couple more minutes. Before the police finally left. She closed the door and leaned against it with a long shay sigh. Relief washed over her like a tidal wave. Eve was really scared they may haul her away from leaving the scene of an accident. But it looks like her story was convincing enough. It also probably had a lot to do with the fact too that the guy that slammed into her had a record. Whereas she was squeaky clean.
She made her way back to her Study to check on Frieza. When Eve opened the door, she saw him leaning slightly forward. He was panting slightly and had a very slight sheen of sweat coating his face and neck. When he slowly looked up at her, she can see the pain clearly written across his face.
Eve approached him and stood in front of him.
"I can't remember the last time I felt this much pain. It...it must have to do with the fact that my body is not as durable as it normally is. I just...feel so weak." He said, in frustration.
"So, it is true. Your completely powerless then?" She speculated.
He clenched his jaw. Yes, he could feel it. His power, his energy, along with his strength; it was all gone. What made him even more agitated was how was this possible? One doesn't simply lose their battle power nor their strength and speed. It almost felt like life's cruel joke to him.
"Yes," he gritted out.
No use in lying to her. Besides, she would've figured it out eventually.
"Would you like me to look at that leg?" She asked.
He snorts, "What's the point? I may not be a doctor. But even I can tell that it's broken. I can feel it."
"If that's the case, I will have to find something to make a split for you. And...you may be immobile for a while. I do have an old pair of crutches in the garage from when I chipped my ankle bone a few years back. I can give you those to use." Eve explained to him.
Frieza winced when he adjusted in his seat. Something that wasn't overlooked by Eve.
"There is a CVS Store around the corner a couple blocks down. I can go there and try and get you some better pain meds." She added.
He really didn't like the fact that he wouldn't be able to be very mobile. But he can't risk making his injuries worse. As badly as Frieza wanted to think of a way he can go back to normal. It is something that may have to be put on the back burner for now. His biggest challenge will be healing for a while. Another thing that hit him, is if his fast-healing abilities are still there or if they evaporated along with his power and strength.
If his body is this badly beaten up from such an accident though, he fears his ability to heal fast may be gone as well. He certainly doesn't feel like he healed any since last night. If his healing ability were still present, most of these injuries would've shown much improvement by now.
Yes, it's safe to say he truly was screwed. And now, it looks as if he will have to rely on this human woman for help. A once laughable concept at best. Frieza can only hope, she won't get angry or fed up with him. Because in his current state, he won't be able to fend for himself if the authorities came to collect him.
Frieza was awfully quiet for the next couple minutes. Eve could clearly see all of this was truly affecting him. Probably because when your use to being one of the most powerful beings in the Universe, you can't imagine yourself falling this far, and becoming so weak.
"Would you like to move back to the living room or stay here? The futon you're currently sitting on opens up into a bed and it's actually very comfortable." She suggests.
"I wouldn't mind moving back to the other room for the time being. But before we do, can you please put a splint on this leg and go get those 'crutches' you spoke of? That way it be a bit easier to move about." He inquired.
"Ok, it won't take me long. I'll be back in a couple minutes." She told him.
Eve headed for the door, but stopped in the doorway, and turned to look at him.
"Nurse Eve reporting for duty." She jokes with a small salute.
Then she heads out to grab her boots and jacket so she can grab what she needs for him out of the garage. He snorts at her goofy pun and mumbles; 'I'm doomed', under his breath after she leaves the room.
I forgot to mention this last chapter. But I'm sure everyone is probably very curious as to how Frieza looks in our reality. There is some life-like renditions fan art pics of the infamous Galactic Emperor on DeviantArt. Though sadly, many of these renditions don't really look like him or portray him very well. Out of all the ones I've seen on that sight, I maybe only saw two life-like renditions that could pass for how he would look in our reality.
Being an artist myself, I don't know why many of the artists on DeviantArt that do these pics of him portray him so differently. A lot of them make him look rather grotesque and some look nothing like him. One of the biggest things that bothered me about many of the artworks I've seen of him, were how off his facial characteristics were. A lot of these artists render his likeness with having an oblong or oval shaped face with a rather robust or large body.
I've even seen a couple where they gave him a flat reptilian like nose. If you all have watched the show enough then you know Frieza's features are rather petite and somewhat dainty in nature. The shape of his face is a slight cross between a diamond/heart shape face, 'NOT' oval or long. He also clearly has a very 'Human' like nose, 'NOT' reptilian at all. And his body is petite and more on the sleek side. All in all, even though he's an adult, his features are quite small and somewhat childlike. All of these details are greatly overlooked in a lot of life-like artwork of him.
I don't mean to ramble on about it. But as I stated, being an artist myself I pay very close attention to specific details and try to stay as close to the original design as I can if I were to do a rendered likeness of something. If anyone really wants an idea of how he may appear here in this story, then I'd say one of the life-like renditions on DeviantArt that looks the closest to him is the artwork done by an artist that goes by the name of SOULFORESAKER. Give their work a glance if you're curious. It's pretty good.
Until Next Time ;)
