I slowly snacked on nuts as Pam talked my ear off, she is always here and always drunk. I have never gotten here before her. She told me she lived with her daughter Penny in a trailer, I never met her because she loves reading in quiet places but I did find out Pam knows everyone and everything according to her as she told me plenty of small town gossip I did not care about.
She took it personally that Shane never even looks her way and how rude he is. How Abigail sits in the graveyard at night being weird and creepy. How some girl named Leah has a scary ex boyfriend and she hears some women named Caroline fight with her husband a lot lately before she walked off saying all that in a matter of seconds.
I have heard of small town gossip but I never witnessed it.
Shane walked in staring at the floor like always where Gus just placed a beer at his seat before he sat down, checking the time it was six and the man was off work, he is like a clock.
"Don't scare off my regulars like Pam, I need them" Gus joked quietly to me and I just gave a small smile, did not know I was.
What does he mean by that?
Harvey sat down next to me as he ordered a black coffee. "Hey there." I spoke up, he started to talk to me about his job as I listened finishing off my pizza. It was nice to not be alone, I embraced his stories.
There was a loud crash and fizzle as the purple haired girl screamed and Sam yelled. "Shit that was on me!" A can of pop was poring on the ground. "I shook it to much." He laughed as he watched it roll away.
"What are you kids doing?" Gus yelled. "Now I have to clean that up. He walked from behind the bar towards them making me smile and slightly laugh, my eye's locked on Shane's who was turning from looking. His eye's were an amazing blue I never noticed but he noticed me and looked a little annoyed before looking back at his beer.
"Those kids are such trouble makers." Harvey spoke as he ate some nuts, honestly I don't see it, they look like a normal group of friends but I just gave a fake smile and took a sip of the fruity drink.
And they were my age, we are not kids.
I finished my stuff, said goodbye and headed to my truck. He is okay, friendly, nice but I think he is to mature for me by the sound of things, I don't think we would connect as friends all that much. A little sad at that as not many talk to me but I wont be around long anyway, so I don't care to much.
Feeling like an adventure I decided to try to find the road to my farm from the south. The way along the river, it showed a path on the map of my farm. The homes quickly turned into a dirt road lost in the forest, the only light came from my truck when it sputtered and stopped, the music stopped making the air around me dead silent.
I tried turning it back on a few times but it was not working.
"Fuck." I got out and opened my hood as I stared, I don't know what to do, why am I looking? Slamming it shut I just leaned on my truck unsure what to do.
It was so freaking quiet the only sound was the river and the moon was so small, it was both peaceful and scary at the same time. Looking around I was far from the town while I might be closer to my farm if I go the other way. I looked at my phone, sadly the only number I have is robin's. Needing help even if it was rude I decided to call but no one picked up.
Stuffing important stuff in my purse I started to walk towards my farm.
I wrapped my arms around me feeling slightly cold and scared when the tree's disappeared and a large farm opened up, the sound of what I think was cow's came floating in the air. A smile crossed my face that I found some place, some animal farm. The big farm home had attached barns as I stared at the welcoming light in front of the door but there was not a single light on inside, they must be asleep.
I looked ahead but the road almost stopped and it was nothing but forest, there is no way I am finding the south path, rubbing my hair I did not know what to do, I am now out of road.
What is wrong with the roads in this place?
My feet were sore and I was lost, sighing I need to go back to my truck then get lost in a forest. I turned to walk when there was some swaying car light's heading my way, the truck was loud as it almost hit me pulling into the farm with a squeal.
The door opened and I heard the crash of bottles hitting the ground when I noticed it was Shane. He did not even look my way as he stumbled towards the front door.
He can't be driving that drunk.
"Um excuse me?" I called out.
He barely paused and continued to go to the door. "I don't know you. Why are you talking to me?"
"Well my truck broke down and I am lost". He finally fully paused, a light turned on just inside the door and the red haired women opened it and looked at him.
"Driving drunk again so recklessly I could hear you from my bedroom." She spoke with only a small amount of concern but mostly sounded disappointed in him.
"Deal with that." He spoke as he walked passed her into the home and she looked at me shocked, I just gave a small wave.
"CC?" I stepped forward. "What are you doing out here?"
"Almost getting run over." I joked but she just looked at the ground in defeat. "Sorry bad joke." I spoke as I stepped forward. "My truck broke down and I don't know where I am." She looked sadly before she waved me in.
I stood confused for a second. "That is okay I just need directions."
"No, come in dear it is two in the morning." I nodded and walked towards her, I don't know her but Lewis trusted her so I guess I should.
The room was a small store like area that moved into a large home, I heard a door slam as she told me she deals with many animals If I ever use my farm this is where to get some. I nodded, not even trying to say I will not be staying, I have said it to much since I got here it just feels repetitive on deaf ears.
Both of us so tired she pointed me to the kitchen. "The living room is through that door, you can sleep on the couch." I nodded and walked to open one, the strong smell of cow shit hit my nose making me slam it shut before I looked at her sadly.
"That leads to the barn's, the other one." She laughed as she turned away and she went back to her room. "I wanted to see your reaction." She vanished as I moved to the other door. It was small but cozy, kicking off my shoes I just lied down on the large comfy blue couch. It took a bit to sleep as the loud noise from the animals, they would not shut up and the fact I was in some strange lady's home.
I was awoken by the noise of many roosters, I just laid there half awake for a moment before sitting up.
The sun was not even up as I put on my shoes and sat there for a moment, can I just leave? Not looking forward to more walking.
I heard a small noise making me open the door, there was Shane putting bread in a toaster, he wore his blue work vest and hat.
I walked out softly on the wooden floor. "Morning."
He was quiet for a second. "I don't have time to chat with you."
"Okay." I felt so unwelcome and he still needed to wait for his toast. Not wanting to push this guy or hang around. "I am going to go to my truck now, tell Marnie thank you." I slid towards the front door.
The early morning was a little cold, the dew in the air felt really nice as I curled my arms into my body wishing for a sweater. I walked for about ten minutes when Shane came tearing down the road, a small rock flew from his wheel almost hitting me in the leg. That made me annoyed at him, he almost hit me again.
I was glad to see the shiny silver of my truck as I walked to it and leaned again for a small break.
I could hear the sound of a vehicle making me perk up, when I noticed it was Lewis. He stopped in front me. "Need some help dear?" I just smiled at him so happy. We hooked up my truck as he was taking me to the only person who could fix it.
"Funny how I swear I just warned you of this."
"Ya." I laughed. "You saw it coming." I looked out the window. "How did you know I was stranded?" I asked him.
"Shane told me." Really? "Even if he just grunted like a caveman and drove off."
Passing over the river we came to an old building with a large Anvil out front. Out came an older man with an impressive beard as we pulled up, light brown hair as he wore an apron. "Lewis." he called out.
"Clint." He called back. "This little lady's truck has stopped working." Clint nodded before walking back inside.
"Clint is our local blacksmith." Blacksmith? A freaking blacksmith, the fuck does that mean in this day and age? "He also has someway with trucks." I nodded confused but did not voice my not so pleasant reaction.
Does he make swords?
Suit's of armor? I held back a laugh.
Getting my truck to the side of the building Lewis left and I just leaned on the wall and watched him quietly look around inside my hood. I felt awkward and nervous around this strange man. He would glance at me from time to time. "So, what does a blacksmith do?" I asked.
He pulled up some kind of stick and inspected it. "This and that, smelt and make things with copper or gold." I nodded that seems normal to me. "I can fix up any tool and make it new." I smiled, oh so I guess a blacksmith is still useful.
"Do you make swords?"
He did not pause. "Sometimes." like it was normal I just nodded.
"Your the girl that is fixing up the old man's farm for profit?"
"Well putting it like that sounds bad but yes."
"So you wont be around for long?"
"Probably not no."
"Then this wont be strange." He spoke as I squinted at him in worry.
"I have terrible luck with women, got any advice?" He looked at me like he was joking but serious. "Because you know, your a women."
"yes I am aware." I smiled as I thought about it. "Treat a women, like you treat a man."
He looked confused. "But they are so different." I agree my advice was bad, I don't even understand it.
"Also, don't say that" I smirked. "You try and be friends and not more is about all I can say really."
He nodded. "Okay.. ill keep that in mind." He still did not understand and I had not clue what to say.
"I honestly don't know the girls around here to really help you."
He stood up. "Well Emily is." He swooned. "Calm and beautiful and prefect."
"Oh so there is one girl in particular then?"
He was startled and went back to the truck. "So this will only take about two hundred to fix, it is not to bad but will take a few hours at the least, Luckily I have nothing else to do today."
I sighed as that is what I just made but I need a truck.
Digging in my purse I was glad I had that kind of cash on me. I handed it to him and he smiled at me. "By the way see anything in the back you like I will give you it cheep." I handed him the cash and moved to walk away. "I am sorry I can't help you." Before I walked off. "I will be back in a few hours."
"Alright."
I strolled along the river before just sitting down and watching it, I picked up a rock and tossed it into the air lightly before catching it. I was lost in my thoughts about the farm when I saw that blonde boy staring at me from across the water, he smiled the cutest smile when I spotted him making me smile back.
We just stared for a moment making it feel awkward so I tossed the rock at him, hitting him in the leg. He gave me a look before he looked around at his feet, I watched him pick up a rock and I quickly got on my feet before he tossed it at me. I smiled as we got into a rock fight, it was fun when a small pink haired boy came up behind him.
He chatted before waving at me and walking off, he gave me a small look back as I sat back down.
