Chapter 7 "Sins Of The Future"

Opening shot: the city skyline at night.)

Narrator: (softly) Shhh. The city of Townsville. (Pan to the suburbs.) Where it's the end of a quiet, peaceful, crime-free day.

(He keeps this speaking volume for all his lines unless otherwise noted. Stop on the girls' house and cut to a slow pan across their darkened bedroom, starting at the windows.)

(Dissolve to a married couple asleep in bed. They look very much like Robert and Hilarie Schneider, two members of the Apples in Stereo; their bedspread bears an apple pattern.)

Narrator: ...as all of its citizens...

(Dissolve to another bedroom, where an individual sleeps with back turned to the camera.)

Narrator: ...beautiful friends...

(The sleeper turns over; it is a fat woman with a beauty treatment smeared on her face. From here, dissolve to the Professor, sleeping at a table in his lab.)

Narrator: ...and family alike are fast asleep.

(Dissolve to a window in the girls' room and pan toward the bed. The camera passes each girl as she is named; all are sleeping quite soundly.)

Narrator: Including our precious little girls...Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles.

Blossom awoke with a start. She sat up in bed, her mind cluttered with confusing images. Usually she slept peacefully, her dreams a flowing river of gentle scenes and colors. But this time it was as though she had been sleeping forever and had just become conscious from a deep coma. She looked around the darkened room. It's familiarity comforted her. As did seeing her sisters sleeping on the same bed next to her.

Bubbles slept with her Octi in her arms, Buttercup had her blanket draped over her stomach. It all felt correct to Blossom, yet at the same time strange. A shudder of dread spread through her being as she sensed someone else in the room. She looked at the foot of their bed but saw no one.

But in the next instant there stood a young woman illuminated by the dim hall light coming through the slightly open bedroom door. Blossom was surprised but not frightened. The young woman was pretty. She had red hair which hung down to her waist. It was done up in a ponytail with a red bow behind her neck. She wore a sleeveless pink dress which came down to mid-thigh. A wide black leather belt was the only other ornament she wore. Blossom blinked and the woman disappeared. She opened her mouth to speak but could not make a sound.

A sudden force overwhelmed her and she fainted. She awoke again to the voice of her sister Bubbles.

Bubbles said "Blossom, Blossom, please wake up."

Blossom's eyes fluttered open when Buttercup had just brought the Professor into their bedroom.

Bubbles said "Buttercup, Professor, she's finally waking up."

Professor said "Honey, are you okay."

Blossom said (sitting up) "Um, what, what do you mean?"

Bubbles - said almost in tears) "You scared me Blossom, you wouldn't wake up. I kept shaking you and you wouldn't wake up."

Blossom said "I'm sorry Bubbles. I was only sleeping."

Bubbles said "But you wouldn't wake up, I thought you were sick."

Buttercup said "You had me going there too. I pinched you and you didn't flinch. I wanted to throw cold water on you but Bubbles made me get the Professor."

Blossom said "Well, gee, I apologize if I made everybody worry about me."

Professor said "It's okay if we get concerned about you. Are you sure you're okay?"

Blossom said "Yeah, I feel fine. I had some weird dreams but I slept okay."

Buttercup said yeah "Deepest sleep I ever saw. I could have set off a stick of dynamite under your butt and you wouldn't have felt it."

Professor said "Buttercup!"

Buttercup said "Well, it's not like I really would have done it."

Bubbles then threw her arms around Blossom.

Bubbles said "Don't ever do that to me again. I was so worried."

Blossom said "Okay, okay, Bubbles. I won't. I'm sorry, I guess I was just so tired it was hard for to wake up. It happens."

Professor said "Well it's time to get up anyway girls. I'll fix up some breakfast while you three get dressed."

Narrator

Soon all three girls were in the bathroom dressing and brushing their hair. Blossom was a little put off by all the fuss that morning not fully understanding it all. As she looked in the mirror at herself and brushed her hair she wondered about the woman she saw. Was it a dream? Or... Suddenly she saw the woman in the mirror instead of her own face. Blossom dropped her brush and gasped loudly.

Bubbles said "What is it Blossom?"

Blossom said no "In the mirror!"

Bubbles looked over at Blossom's reflection. She could see a startled look in her reflected face.

Bubbles said "What's the matter, did you see something wrong with your hair?"

Blossom said (turning to Bubbles and pointing at her own reflection) "No, don't you see the woman?"

Bubbles said "What woman? I just see you." Blossom

Blossom turned to see her own face in the mirror. The woman she saw was gone. Blossom trembled and sat down on the floor hugging herself.

Buttercup said "Blossom, what's the matter?"

Blossom said "You better go get the Professor, I think something really is wrong with me."

Buttercup and Bubbles looked at each other and then at Blossom. She had a far away look in her eyes that scared them.

Bubbles zoomed out of the bathroom. Bubbles yelled "Professor!"

Buttercup kneeled down by Blossom and stroked her shoulder to comfort her.

Buttercup said "Blossom, it's okay, everything is going to be all right." Blossom looked at her.

Blossom said "I'm scared Buttercup, I think I'm hallucinating."

The Professor ran into the bathroom followed by Bubbles.

Professor said "Blossom, what is it?"

Blossom said "I'm seeing things, I'm seeing people that are not there."

Professor said "Now calm down Blossom, it's probably just..."

Blossom yelled "Aaahhh!"

Narrator : In the bathroom doorway behind the Professor and Bubbles stood the young woman with the red hair. Blossom jumped up and pointed at her.

Blossom said "Don't you see her, don't you see her?"

Blossom blinked and she was gone. The others turned to look but saw nothing there. They all looked at Blossom who was almost in hysterics.

Buttercup said "See who Blossom?"

Blossom said "There was a woman standing there. I saw her in my dream last night. She has long red hair and a pink dress."

Bubbles said "Like yours?"

Narrator ; Blossom flinched. Could it be she thought to herself. The woman looked familiar, as though she was looking at an older version herself. Her mind was a whirlpool of confusion, she wanted it to stop. She took several steps toward the Professor. She looked up into his concerned face with eyes filled with fear and confusion. Then she fainted into his arms.

an hour Later

Blossom slowly woke up and found herself in her room again and in her bed. She looked around and saw no one else.

Blossom said "I wish I knew what was going on?"

Woman's voice said "It's your future sin catching up with you."

Narrator Blossom turned to see the woman standing by her bed.

Blossom said "Who are you? What are you doing to me?"

Woman said "Isn't it obvious to you by now? I'm you, from the future!"

Blossom said "I don't believe you."

Woman said "You better believe it. Because if you don't, something terrible will happen."

Blossom said "How is this possible? Why can't anyone else see you?"

Woman said "I am projecting an image of myself through a rift in the time/space continuum into your mind. Only you can see or hear me. And I can see and hear through your senses."

Blossom said "I still don't... understand"

The woman turns her head and pulls up her hair revealing a small scar on the back of her neck.

Woman said "Remember this? We got this scar when Mojo Jojo hit us with a laser knife that time in his lair."

Blossom reaches around her neck and feels the same scar. oh yeah "I remember, I kept it from the Professor because I was afraid he would get overprotective and make us wear helmets again."

Woman said so "Now do you believe I'm from the future? That I am you?"

Blossom said "Why are you here, what is this about something terrible?"

The young woman fell silent then sat on the edge of the bed. She looked at Blossom with sad eyes.

Woman said "I'm all alone in the future. Bubbles, Buttercup, and the Professor. They're all dead."

Blossom shout "WHAT! NO! How? Who did it? Who is the fiend who took their lives?"

Woman said "We are!"

Blossom sits there stunned. Not wanting to believe what she is saying.

Blossom her voice low and trembling) "How?"

Woman said "It starts today. Which is why I'm here now. Something goes wrong. An imbalance in the Chemical X in our brain. It becomes toxic somehow and affects our mind. We go crazy and lose it. We kill our sisters. And when the Professor tries to stop us we kill him too. We have no control over it. When Ms. Keane and the Rowdyruff Boys try to find out the truth we..."

Blossom said "No, not them too?"

The woman glares at her younger self

Woman shouting) "Yes! All of them!"

Blossom covers her eyes and sobs.

Woman - said "We manage to make everybody believe it was Him who did it. And we were the only one to survive. Everybody believed us instead of that evil incarnate. We made them all believe our supposed innocence. We lived all those years with the guilt of what we had done. We stopped being a super hero and withdrew into seclusion. I had finally reached a point that I couldn't take it anymore. The memories of my loved ones. Dead from my hands. I wrote a confession note and I was going to kill myself."

The young woman looked at Blossom who trembled at her sight.

as the Woman Sight "But I decided to see if I could change what happened. By going into the past and trying to stop myself. The vast knowledge I had gained from my years in seclusion gave me the skills to create a device to do it. But I didn't have the ability to actually change history. That would be up to you."

Blossom said "No, I don't know what to do?"

Woman said "You must resist when it happens. You lose control and you do things you cannot imagine."

Blossom stares into space not wanting to believe what she has heard could be the truth. Then there is a knock on the door. Bubbles poked her head in.

Bubbles said "Blossom, are you feeling better?"

Blossom said "Uh, Bubbles, I don't want to see anyone now."

Bubbles enters the room and moves toward the bed.

Bubbles said "Who were you talking to?"

Blossom looks at the woman.?

Woman said "She can't hear or see me. Only you can."Blossom"

Blossom said "Look Bubbles, maybe you better leave, I want to be alone and..."

Bubbles said "Blossom, please, I want to keep you company. Don't send me away."

Blossom getting agitated) "Bubbles, just leave, okay."

Bubbles said "No, I won't, I want to help you." Blossom Please.

Blossom jumps out of bed and stands in front of Bubbles. angrily) "Just leave me alone!"

Woman said "It begins."

Narrator : Blossom suddenly no longer feels in control of her body. It is though her mind is detached and she sees her own hands go for Bubbles' throat. In her mind Blossom screams to herself to stop but her hands continue to put extreme pressure on Bubbles' windpipe. as Her sister struggles, trying to get away and gasp for air but her movements become weaker and weaker until her eyes roll to the top of her head and her arms drop. Blossom could not believe that Bubbles was no longer breathing and moving.

Buttercup said "Blossom, what are you doing?!"

Narrator : Blossom turns in time to see Buttercup jump from the door and knock her aside. Buttercup feels for a pulse on Bubbles' body. She turns to Blossom with rage in her eyes.

Buttercup said "You killed her, how could you?"

Narrator : it is sister vs sister now who will win "

Buttercup charged at Blossom swinging her fists savagely. Blossom's arms fended off Buttercup's wild swings. Quickly drawing back a fist sends a hard blow crashing into Buttercup's face between her eyes. Buttercup's head snaps back and her neck cracks. Buttercup's eyes go blank and she falls into a heap on the floor at Blossom's feet.

Blossom said "What have I done?"

Woman said "Done the inevitable. Killed your sisters. The Chemical X imbalance has begun and there is no way to stop it."

Blossom stood there looking at the lifeless bodies of her sisters. She is too stunned to bring herself to cry out or even shed a tear.

Woman said "It will only end when you bring it to an end yourself." Blossom looked at her. "Go into the lab, find the Anti-X ray gun. End your life now before you end everyone else."

Narrator Blossom zoomed out of the room. No longer caring if she was in control. She wanted this nightmare to end, before it got worse. She entered the lab and saw the locked cabinet where the Professor kept some of the more dangerous weapons in. She smashed the lock and found the gun. It was one that Mojo Jojo had created to destroy them. They had confiscated it from him and kept it so the Professor could study it.

Professor said "Blossom, what have you done? What are you doing with that?"

Narrator

Blossom turned to see an angry Professor standing in the door of the lab. He was livid. He had a look that lanced clear though her soul. He slowly walked toward her.

Professor said "Bubbles and Buttercup, dead, why? Why are you doing this?"

Blossom backed away holding the gun before her.

Professor said "What are you going to do with that? It's dangerous. There is something horribly wrong with you. You've destroyed your sisters. Maybe I should destroy you and start over?"

Blossom pulling the trigger on the gun) "NO!"

Narrator A ray shot out and struck the Professor in the chest. He put his hand over the smoldering hole, he staggered a few steps toward Blossom and stopped, looking at her.

Professor said "Honey?"

He fell to the floor dead. Blossom stared at his lifeless body.

Blossom Gasp "I can't, I can't..."

Woman said "You can't help it. End it before it really gets worse."

Blossom stared at the gun.

Woman said "Look at me! I have lived all this time with the guilt of what I had done. And it will get worse. All that you love you will destroy."

Blossom pointed the barrel of the gun at her own chest and tears finally came to her eyes.

Blossom Said "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." She pulled the trigger. A sharp pain shot through her body and her mind went black...black...black...

...

Professor: Wake up, "Blossom' . Come on, "Blossom, open your eyes. "Blossom"

(Fade in. into the Lab

It was the Professor's voice calling her though the darkness. Blossom's eyes slowly opened and the face of her creator came into focus. She found herself cradled in his arms.

Blossom said "Professor, are you alive?"

Professor said "Very much so."

Buttercup said "Welcome back leader girl."

Bubbles said "It's all over Blossom." as Both sister's were floating right next to her.

Blossom said "You're alive, you're all alive!"

She hugged all them at once, her tears flowed freely.

Blossom said but "I thought I killed you all."

Buttercup said it "Just our simulated selves." you Killed Sis"

Blossom said "What?" She looked around and saw that she was in the simulator. "I don't understand?"

Professor said "When you fainted in the bathroom I gave you a complete examination. That's when I found this." He takes Blossom's hairbow off and unties the ribbon. Inside the knot is a small device.

Professor - said "It's some sort of thought projector and control device. Whoever planted this on you made you believe your were seeing someone who wasn't there. We didn't know who was doing it and because they could take control of your body at any time we decided to put you in a safer environment and watch what happened. I hated to put you through all that but we had to get whoever it was to show their hand."

Bubbles said "Now they think we're all dead."

Blossom said "You don't know who did this?"

Professor said "It seems you were the only link to whoever it was."

Buttercup said "We should be finding out who it is pretty soon though."

At that moment the Powerpuff Girl hotline in the lab buzzed. Bubbles was quick to get it.

Bubbles said "Powerpuff Girls hotline. Oh, hi, Mayor. Really? Okay, thanks." She put the receiver down.

Bubbles said "The Mayor says there is something on television we should see."

Narrator

They all go up to the living room and turn on the set. The face of Mojo Jojo fills the screen.

Mojo Jojo said "Citizens of Townsville. I am announcing that I Mojo Jojo have succeeded in destroying the Powerpuff Girls and their creator, Professor Utonium. Go to their home and you will see for themselves. Now I am in control and you will do as I say or you too will feel my wrath. Bwah, hah, hah, hah!"

Blossom said "Why that disgusting monkey. Making me think I murdered you all."

Buttercup said "We should visit Mojo and make a change in his programming."

Bubble said "Let's go!"

The girls all zoom out the door. The Professor sits back with a tub of popcorn.

Professor said "This should be good."

On the television Mojo continues to gloat.

Mojo Jojo said "Without your protectors you are all at my mercy. I will begin by taking over city hall. And letting all the prisoners out of jail so they can help bring you all to your knees. And then..."

At that moment a crash is heard above Mojo's head.

Mojo Jojo said "What is the meaning of this outrage? What...NO!"

Narrator

The Powerpuff Girls are floating behind him. Bubbles rubs her mitts together, smiling a toothy grin. Buttercup smacks her mitts together with her customary frown on her face. While Blossom trembles in sheer anger, a look on her face that could melt steel.

Buttercup said "We are very much alive Mojo and here to change your schedule."

Mojo Jojo said "No, it can't be, I saw you...AAAHHH!"

There are flashes of light across the camera lens and sounds of thumping heard. Then Bubbles' face appears in the screen.

Bubbles said "For you sports fans here is a little Powerpuff volley ball." She moves aside to show Mojo being whacked back and forth between Blossom and Buttercup. He yelps with every smack. Then the screen flutters and Buttercup appears.

Buttercup said "And now for the very first time on live television.

Bubbles goes hardcore!"

The camera focuses on Bubbles standing over a cowering Mojo.

Bubbles said with a harsh voice) "You made my sister Blossom upset. You've been a very bad monkey."

Mojo Jojo said "No, Bubbles, have mercy."

Bubbles yelled "Hah, mercy is for the weak!"

Buttercup appears on screen giving a running commentary.

Buttercup said "Whoa, there she goes folks. The punishing blows. Those savage kicks. Bites that leave permanent marks. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. Ooh, that wedge has got to hurt!"

Then Blossom appears on the screen.

Blossom said "And now as they say in teevee land. The finishing touch." She turns to a totally whipped Mojo. He looks at her wondering what punishment she plans for him.

Blossom said "You like playing mind games Mojo? Well I'll give you a mind game."

Narrator

She turns to a blackboard and writes down a long complicated mathematical formula. Mojo's face register confusion, then recognition, and finally abject fear.

Mojo Jojo yelled "NOOOO! Not Hilbert's Tenth Equation? It's absolutely unsolvable!"

Blossom said "Yes, Hilbert's Tenth Equation! The worst punishment for an evil genius like you. I'm instructing the warden not to let you out of jail until you solve it."

Mojo Jojo yelled "AAAAAHHHHH!"

Bubbles said "Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes this broadcast, have a nice night. And goodnight Mrs. Calabash, where ever you are?"

The screen goes blank. A voice comes on. "We now return you to your regularly scheduled program."

Professor laugh "Heh, heh, heh, those scamps."

Narrator

That night as the girls go to bed, Blossom is in the middle with her sisters close by her sides. The Professor has just tucked them in.

Professor said "Good night girls, have pleasant dreams."

Blossom said "They should be good with a wonderful family like you."

Buttercup said "Hey, we're here for you, no matter what happens."

Bubbles said "Blossom, you can share my Octi."

Buttercup said "Grab the other end of my blanket Blossom."

Blossom said "Thanks guys."

The Professor kisses each of them on the forehead. He turns out the light and leaves the room. Blossom lays there staring at the ceiling.

Bubbles said "Blossom?"

Blossom said "Yes?"

Bubbles - said "Where did Mojo get the image of you as a grownup?"

Blossom said "I probably produced that in my own mind. He just called it up and I created my own self-image."

Buttercup said "Something from your ID I bet."?

Blossom said "Buttercup, have you been reading up on psychology?"

Buttercup said "Hey, I get bored with comic books every once in a while."

Narrator

The girls chuckled. Blossom drew her sisters closer to her. She never felt so alive and happy. She knew they would all have a wonderful future together.

Down in the lab the Professor struggled with a pencil over a pad of paper.

Professor said "That equation must be solvable. Now if I carry the two and make X equal Y squared..." It was going to be a long night for geniuses everywhere.

(The background for the end shot comes up.)

Narrator: And once again, the day is saved.

(The girls appear, asleep in bed. L to R: Bubble, Blossom, Buttercup.)

(The standard end shot comes up.)

Narrator: So once again the day is saved, thanks to the Powerpuff Girls. We'll see you again soon!
