Chapter 10 Floating Away -

(Opening shot: the city skyline at night.)

Narrator: The city of Townsville! Night, a time to rest, to sleep, and dream of wonderful things.

Buttercup sleeps next to her sisters, a deep sleep in a dreamward of wind and water. She is dreaming of surfing the high raging waves in the middle of a tropical storm. She shouts excitedly as she conquers the towering surf, riding on the front edge of her surfboard. Then the wave breaks and she is flying through the air in her dream. She keeps rising and rising, until she...

BUMP!

Buttercup said "Ow!"

She opens her eyes and realizes she is floating high above the bed, her face against the ceiling. Looking down into the bedroom, dimly lit by the light in the hall, she sees her sisters sleeping below her. She starts to float back down to the bed but she finds she can't. She can hardly control her flying and can only bob against the ceiling like a loose helium balloon.

Buttercup said hey "What's wrong with me?"

She tries pushing against the ceiling but quickly floats back up to it. Pointing herself downward she flaps and swings her arms as though trying to swim back down to bed. But she makes no headway. She starts to get worried, then she gets concerned, finally she panics.

Buttercup yelled "HELP ME! I CAN'T GET DOWN!"

Blossom sits up in bed rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

Blossom said "What...what is it Buttercup?"

Buttercup said "Up here."

Turning on the bedside lamp Blossom looks up to see her sister flat against the ceiling.

Blossom - said "What are you doing up there?"

Buttercup said "I can't get down."

Blossom said "What do you mean you can't get down?"

Buttercup said "I have no control over my flying power."

Blossom said "What?"

She flies up, grabs Buttercup's arms and pulls her down to the bed.

Blossom said "What is all this nonsense about?"

She lets go of Buttercup and she floats back up to the ceiling.

Buttercup said "See what I mean, I can't stop from floating up here."

Meanwhile Bubbles has awakened and looks up at Buttercup.

Bubbles said "What's Buttercup doing sleeping on the ceiling?"

Blossom said "She can't seem to control her flying power. Go get the Professor."

In a couple of minutes Bubbles returns with the Professor who looks up at the situation.

Professor said "Hmmm, interesting."

Buttercup said "What do you mean interesting? I can't get down!"

Professor said "Girls, get her down and bring to her to the lab."

In the lab, while she is strapped down to a heavy bed, Buttercup is examined by the Professor with every technologically advanced device at his disposal.

Professor said "Now open your mouth and say "AHH" while I stick this tongue depressor in."

Buttercup say "Aaahhh."

Professor looking in her mouth) "Mmm hmm, aah hah."

Buttercup said "Hey, that thing tastes like strawberries." yum

Professor said "Actually it's a used popsicle stick, I'm out of regular tongue depressors."

Blossom said "What is wrong with her Professor?"

Professor said "My guess is an imbalance of Chemical X energy is creating an anti-gravity field around Buttercup. Normally you girls can direct your flying energy fields very expertly. But in Buttercup's case she has lost some of that control. I will have to mix up a stabilizing serum to get her body back into balance."

Blossom said "How long will that take?"

Professor said "About one day, I should have it ready by the time you get back from school."

Buttercup said "You mean I don't get to skip school because of this?"

Professor said "No Buttercup, this is not serious enough for you to miss a day of school."

Buttercup said "Rats!"

Blossom said "But we can't go to school holding on to her."

Bubbles said "I got an idea."

She gets a length of cord from a desk drawer and ties it to Buttercup's ankle. When Bubbles unbuckles the straps holding her sister to the bed Buttercup floats up until she is kept from rising any higher by the cord.

Bubbles said "We can keep her from blowing away by holding on to the string."

Buttercup said "Oh great, now I know how a balloon in the Thanksgiving Day parade feels."

Blossom said "Don't worry Buttercup, it's just temporary."

Professor said "It's almost time to get up anyway, no pun intended Buttercup, you girls better get ready for school."

Buttercup sarcastically) "Hah..hah."

Cut to the exterior of the house as they take off

As all the kids arrive at Pokey Oaks Kindergarten, Ms. Keane greets each and everyone of them as they enter.

Ms. Keane said "Good morning Mary, good morning Mitchell..."

Mitch said "That's Mitch."

Ms. Keane said "I know Mitchell, sigh."

Blossom said "Good morning Ms. Keane."

Ms. Keane said "Good morning Blossom, Bubbles, and..."

She looks at the two Powerpuff Girls standing in front of her.

Ms. Keane Said "Isn't Buttercup coming to school?"

Buttercup said "Up here."

Ms. Keane looks up and sees Buttercup overhead on the end of a long string held by Bubbles.

Ms. Keane said oh "My goodness!"

Mitch said hey "That's a funny looking balloon you got there Bubbles."

Buttercup said "You watch it Mitch or I'll kick your booty so hard you'll need a stepladder to sit down."

Mitch said "Aw, don't get your bloomers in a wad."

Ms. Keane said "Mitchell, sit down and be quiet. What's wrong with Buttercup?"

Blossom said "It's a little imbalance condition, the Professor says it's not serious and she'll be back to normal after today."

Buttercup said "The next balloon joke I hear..."

Ms. Keane said "Don't worry Buttercup, I'll see to it no one else makes fun of you."

The rest of the morning goes by normally as Ms. Keane conducts the class in their ABC's and 123's. Buttercup is pretty much left alone, tied to a leg of the table she shares with her sisters. At recess all the kids run outside. Bubbles walks out dragging Buttercup by the string.

Buttercup said oh "I don't know how I'll have fun like this." Bubbles"

Bubbles said "Don't worry Buttercup, we'll find something fun to do together."

Mike Believe is waiting for Bubbles.

Mike said "Hi Bubbles."

Bubbles said "Hi Mike."

Mike looks up at Buttercup.

Mike said "Hi Buttercup."

Buttercup crossing her arms and glaring at him) "Humph!"

Bubbles said "Don't mind her, she's grouchy because she can't get her feet on the ground."

Mike said "Gosh! Do you want to play on the swings Bubbles?"

Bubbles said "Sure, maybe we can also...oh, shoot!"

Mike said "What's wrong Bubbles?"

Bubbles said "One of my shoe straps has come loose. Will you hold Buttercup while I fix it."

She hands Mike the string.

Mike said "Sure."

Narrator In the meantime, Buttercup, bored with all the small talk has decided to take a short nap. As she closes her eyes Mike feels himself being pulled up as a gust of wind blows Buttercup higher. Mike finds the string has wrapped itself around his arm and he cannot unravel it. Within minutes he finds himself several feet above the ground. He freezes as he sees the ground falling further and further away. When he can see the tops of the roofs below him he finally finds his voice.

Mike said "Buttercup, we're floating away. Get us down. Buttercup."

But Buttercup is fast asleep.

After she fastens her shoe strap Bubbles looks around for Mike but finds him gone.

Bubbles said "Now where did he go?"

As she looks around the schoolyard for Mike, he is floating high over Pokey Oaks hanging on for dear life to the string tied to Buttercup's ankle.

Mike said "Buttercup! Get us down!"

Bubbles walks up to Blossom who is trying to get a knot out of a jump rope.

Bubbles said "Blossom, have you seen Mike?"

Blossom said "No, I haven't. And where is Buttercup?"

Bubbles - said "I gave her to Mike while I fixed my shoe."

Blossom said "If Mike was holding on to Buttercup, then they..."

She looks around the sky until she sees the two far away among the clouds.

Blossom said "There they are!"

Bubbles said "Oh dear!"

Narrator As the two Powerpuff Girls zoom off to rescue Mike and the floating Buttercup, he is trying to navigate in the wind.

Mike said "Come on Buttercup, we're drifting away from the school. Try floating this way."

QUACK! QUACK! QUACK!

Mike said "Aaahhh, a flock of ducks!"

He swings wildly on the end of the string trying to avoid colliding with the ducks flying by.

Mike said "Whew, I hope we don't hit anything else up here."

Suddenly he hears the loud whine of jet engines. He turns to see an airplane headed right for them.

Mike closing his eyes) "BUTTERCUP!"

Narrator Suddenly there is the zing of Powerpuff jets as Blossom and Bubbles pluck them both out of the way of the aircraft.

Blossom said "You're safe now Mike."

Mike said "Thanks Blossom."

Bubbles said "Buttercup, wake up."

Buttercup said "Huh, what, is it time for breakfast already?"

Narrator Back home That afternoon, the Professor gives Buttercup the serum which will make her normal.

Professor said "Now hold still, this won't hurt a bit."

Blossom and Bubbles cover their eyes as the Professor gives Buttercup an injection in the arm.

Buttercup yelled "OOOWWW! What are you poking me with, a harpoon?"

Professor said "Now Buttercup, it was just a little needle."

Bubbles said "Don't be such a baby Buttercup."

Buttercup said "Huh, because of you I nearly floated to China with Mike as my reluctant passenger."

Bubbles Giggle sheepishly) "Sorry."

Blossom said "Is she normal now Professor?"

Professor said "The serum should have taken effect by now."

He unbuckles the straps which hold Buttercup down to the bed. Buttercup just sits there.

Buttercup said "Hey, I'm not floating."

She steps off the bed and promptly falls to the lab floor like an anvil. PLOMP!

Buttercup said "Ow, now I can't even stand up."

Professor said "Hmm, I may have overdone an ingredient in the serum."

They all watch as Buttercup crawls around on the floor on her stomach like a turtle.

Buttercup said "I want to be normal!"

Professor said "Don't worry Buttercup, I can make an antidote in an hour. Just relax."

Buttercup said "Relax? I feel like I should scoot under furniture like a cockroach."

Blossom said "Eeeyew!"

Bubbles said "Actually she makes a good pony."

Bubbles jumps on Buttercup's back.

Bubbles said "Giddy up!"

Buttercup said "Get off me or I'll pull your pigtails off!"

Bubbles said "You're no fun little miss crabby pants."

Blossom - said "Oh brother."

The standard end shot comes up.)

Narrator: (laughing) Don't be a wiener, Buttercup. So once again the day is saved - thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!
