Me: This will be my last update for this week. I have Final Exams until Sunday, so feel free to enter my discord server and hangout there with the bots while I focus on my studies. Hopefully y'all have enough patience to wait.

Normal POV!

The first time Kyouka laid her eyes on his wings, she admits that Midoriya Izuku had scared her more than the horror-based activities she was forced to participate with her friends back in middle school.

His wings are almost inky black in color, but a shade darker. Looking at it is like gazing into the abyss — a bottomless pit of nothingness. Seeing it for the first time had shaken her so much she barely glanced at his direction.

The USJ, however, may have proven her assessment otherwise. She doesn't know much, but she heard from Asui and Mineta how Midoriya had fought the villains head-on to protect them. For someone who barely knows his classmates, he sure is willing to risk so much for them.

But it wasn't as if the two could see his wings.

Aizawa announces the Sports Festival, and finally it's starting to feel like they're actually in the Hero Course again. For a moment she forgets Midoriya and his strange wings, the villains and their attack, and that she was a student again who's just training to be a hero.

The Sports Festival goes about as expected. In the obstacle race, she didn't do as good as she hoped, but at least she passed. There was a moment, back then, when she thought she saw death looming over her. An explosion, and suddenly it was like a giant Angel of Death flew past her. It gave her chills, still unsettles her, but she ignores it in favor of focusing on the games.

For a moment, she feels guilt gnaw at her heartstrings. It wasn't like Midoriya did anything wrong. Since he became part of her class, all he did is give his best efforts for every activity the hero course threw at him. Even at the USJ, he faced those villains not because he had to, but because he wanted to protect them. But as much as Kyouka tells herself this like a mantra, she cannot squish down the jittery feeling she has whenever she's in the same vicinity as the boy.

She loses at the Cavalry battle, not having enough points to advance in the next round. Instead, she gets to have a front row seat to watch her classmates participate in the Battle Tournament. While it's a bit disheartening that she isn't able to advance, she can just watch her classmates and see how they fare against each other or against students in other classes.

The first battle is terrifying on a whole other level.

It was between Midoriya and a student in General Education, named Shinsou Hitoshi.

Shinsou's wings, from what Kyouka remembers when she glanced at him when the lineups were first announced, are about five feet and seven inches for what she can deduce, bigger than hers with slate colored feathers and iris linings that fade into a light lavender nearing the ends. Hers is only five feet and three inches, flint in color with sangria linings. Standing in the same stage as Midoriya makes the difference in size much more noticeable, and although the green-haired boy's wings are tightly folded together, the colors make a great intimidating factor in comparison.

As powerful her hearing is, even the distance between the stage and the audience seats are too much for her to hear what is being said. She could have sworn Midoriya's wings bristled for a minute when Shinsou said some words to him, but her quirk doesn't really make her eyesight as good as her hearing. The match ends much more tamer than she expected, although there was this weird moment with Midoriya snapping himself out (quite literally) from the trance Shinsou seems to have put him through.

Next was the battle between Uraraka and Bakugou, and while her opinion of the blond isn't the best, she can at least respect that he faced the smaller brunette at full power despite how brutal the battle looked. Though she was at the edge of her seat the whole time, it is admittedly the best fight in the whole tournament as of yet.

And eventually, it was Todoroki Shouto against Midoriya.

Contrary to popular belief (or as popular as it can be with only Kyouka having the ability to see wings), Todoroki's wings are not as asymmetrical as his hair. The boy has an intimidating mahogany colored wings, second only to Bakugou in terms of size (and possibly third, depending on the size of Midoriya's).

Their battle was… breathtaking at best and frightening at worst. If she thinks Bakugou and Uraraka's fight is going too far, then these two take it to a whole other level. Kyouka knows that these two students have the most powerful quirks in her class, but to see it in action pitted against each other made her realize how lucky she was that she's not part of the third round.

While Kyouka had learned to not judge the boy based on his wings, it still doesn't stop the slight fear that runs through her veins whenever Midoriya's wings do something strange.

Kyouka likes to think she's well-versed on wing behavior after all the years she spent observing them, not having anyone to share the idea with. She knows that wings move out of instinct and its behavior is affected by the person's emotions. From the first day, Midoriya's wings have stayed tucked into his body — almost as skittish as the boy himself. However, despite his seemingly relaxed and comfortable demeanor in Uraraka and Iida's presence, his wings never showed a sign of moving away from his body. Kyouka wonders why that is, and as much as she fears seeing those wings in all its glory, she can't help herself but be curious what it would look like if he opened it to its fullest.

Kyouka never expected she'd see it this soon.

The smoke clears, and Todoroki stands inside the painted borders of what was once the perfectly intact stage. A couple of feet away from him, body planted on the walls of the arena is Midoriya, standing slumped with his wings spread out and motionless.

It is… horrifying to look at. Enormous in size, black as the starless sky, limp and unmoving. She knows it's normal for wings to do that whenever the bearer is unconscious, but for wings that exude a dreadful aura, Kyouka almost thought he was dead.

They carry him away to be healed, wings phasing through the stretcher and slumping on the ground, the ends getting dragged as they take him away to the infirmary.

While Kyouka is glad that her curiosity has been sated, she doesn't think she ever wants to see his wings so dead and limp ever again.
