"Monkey On My Back"

Narrator the City of Townville's where The mission for the Powerpuff Girls is a tough one today as they work hard at defeating a group of monsters. They are certainly busy when Blossom barks orders to her sisters as she coordinates attacks and defensive moves like a field general. The dim of battle gets so loud at times Blossom has to shout commands at the top of her lungs. Soon it comes to a quiet end as all the monsters are defeated and the Powerpuff Girls save the day once again. Exhausted from their battle the super powered kids fly back home looking forward to a much deserved rest.

Buttercup said "Boy, some day. Good thing we don't have too many like that. My head is still throbbing from that last headbutt."

Bubbles said "My muscles ache from all the punching I've done and my teeth ache from all the biting."

Bell said "Well thanks to Blossom, we got through all that with hardly any serious injuries." She looks over at Blossom flying next to her and notices her rubbing her throat.

Buttercup said "Something wrong Leader Girl?"

Blossom said "My throat hurts from all the yelling. I think I need some water to soothe it."

Bubbles said "Hot tea and honey helps my throat when it hurts."

Bell said it won't take long to Make"

Blossom giggle "Thanks Bubbles, and Bell but I think it's just a little dry. Water will do it for me."

Narrator

When they get home Blossom does drink a glass of water and hopes it will be enough to ease her scratchy throat. All seems well until that evening when they go to bed. Snuggling up to her pillow she tries to get much needed sleep but her irritated throat flares up again. At first Blossom tries swallowing and clearing her throat but it gets worse. Just breathing through her mouth worsens her condition. Soon she is coughing so much she is sitting up in bed trying to catch her breath. Bubbles sits up next to her and rubs her sister's back trying to soothe her problem.

Bubbles said "Blossom, you okay?"

Blossom "My throat !COUGH! hurts too !COUGH! much."

Narrator Then she goes into an extended coughing fit that not only wakes Buttercup and Bell but brings the Professor into their room.

Professor said "What's wrong with Blossom?"

Bubbles said "She's got a sore throat I think."

Buttercup said "Must be from all that yelling she did today."

Bell said that is because you wasn't Listing" Buttercup'?

The Professor picks up the convulsing Blossom in his arms and carries her to the bathroom as her sisters follows. He sits Blossom on the counter then has her open her mouth and stick out her tongue as he uses a tongue depressor to examine her mouth.

Bell said Professor will Blossom be alright"

Professor said "Hmmm, the back of your throat is inflamed. I think some cough syrup should soothe it."

Narrator He reaches into the medicine cabinet and pulls out two bottles which look almost alike.

Professor said "Let's see, one is adult strength, can't use that, this syrup for children is what you need."

Narrator He pours the child strength cough syrup in a spoon and has Blossom drink it. The cherry flavored medicine flows down her throat immediately relieving her of the irritation.

Blossom said "Thank you Professor, my throat feels better now."

Professor said "Save your voice Blossom, give it a chance to heal. Everyone back to bed now."

Narrator He carries her back to bed as her sisters follow. He tucks Blossom in and makes sure she in comfortable. Then he leaves the room, turning out the light and closing the door.

Blossom said "Bubbles, thanks for..."

Bubbles said "Shh, don't talk Blossom, you're supposed to give your voice a rest."

Blossom said "But..."

Bubbles said "You heard me, not a word."

Bell said Blossom you been thoughter this with Bubble remember"

Blossom Think back"

Flashback

Professor said Wake up, Bubbles. Come on, Bubbles, open your eyes. (Fade in. Powerpuff bedroom int., the Professor leans over the camera, which is seeing the world from Bubbles' point of view. Blossom and Buttercup float off to the side.) Oh, that's it, that a girl. (Cut to Bubbles, eyes struggling to open) There she is. There's our Bubbles.

Blossom said Gee, Bubbles, getting stung in the throat by that bee must have really hurt.

(Bubbles tries to respond, but her voice is weak and hoarse, and her words are impossible to make out.

The Professor's hand appears before her face, finger shaking in a scolding manner.)

Professor said Ah ah ah. The doctor said no speaking for a week. The less you speak, the sooner you can get out of that, um... That, er...(Zoom out, showing Bubbles has been given a neck brace. She lies under the green section of the Powerpuff tri-color bed.

Cut to Buttercup and Blossom, who are still floating in midair.)

Buttercup said Face brace? (Blossom tries not to laugh before both erupt into full-blown laughter.

Bubbles tries to show her displeasure but is unable to make herself heard, much to her annoyance.

The Professor comes over and wraps an arm around Bubbles' shoulder.)

Professor said Now, now, girls. It's not nice to make fun of your sister's condition. It's not her fault that she's stuck wearing this...this um...

Buttercup said Throat moat? (They laugh again.

Back at the bed, the Professor too is struggling not to laugh until finding himself on the receiving end of his sweetest daughter's glare.)

Blossom said Don't worry, Bubbles. Look, you can use this chalkboard. If you have something to tell us, just write it down. (She hands her sister the handheld chalkboard and Bubbles instantly starts writing. After a moment, she holds it up with the words 'I'm not speaking to you!' on it.)

Blossom smiles at her and then leans over to give her sister a kiss on the cheek before falling to sleep. Bubbles hugs her sister and rubs her back until she too succumbs to fatigue.

Bell said good night girls" i will fine that Chalk board in the Morning" just in case

Narrator

The next morning begins the weekend as the Powerpuff Girls awaken to a new day. Buttercup stretches and rolls around in bed trying to flex her tired muscles. Bubbles wakes up with renewed energy but has a little problem waking Blossom from her deep slumber.

Bubbles said "Blossom, wake up you sleepy head. Blossom?"

Blossom simply pulls the covers over herself trying to catch more sleep.

Bell said odd Blossom is usually never like Sleeping in"

Bubbles said "You asked for it."

Narrator She quickly pulls the covers away and pulls Blossom's nightie up exposing her sister's underwear clad body. Then Bubbles places her lips on Blossom's bare belly and blows a loud raspberry. Blossom eyes fly open and she rolls away in a giggling fit.

Bubbles said "You going to wake up now?"

Blossom said "Okay okay, hee hee hee hee hee, I surrender." Then she coughs a few times. This worries Bubbles. and Bell

Bell said "How's your throat?"

Blossom said "It's better than last night but still a little sore."

Professor said "Still sore eh?"

Narrator They turn to see the Professor enter the room. He comes over and sits on the bed next to Blossom.

Professor said "Open your mouth and let me see. Hmmm, still a little red, you must have really over-stressed your throat yesterday. We'll just give you some more cough syrup."

He picks up Blossom and carries her to the bathroom. She snuggles close and rests her head on his chest feeling great comfort in being carried by her father. As she sits on the counter the Professor gets out the syrup.

Professor said "Hmm, not much left in this bottle, have to get some more."

Blossom said "What about the other one?"

Professor said "Oh no, that syrup is for grown-ups. It's too strong for little kids like you. Now open up."

Narrator He gives her the last spoonful of the sweet tasting syrup which once again soothes Blossom's throat. She also notices the warm gooey feeling which spreads over her chest as the mild medicine goes down to her stomach.

Professor said "Now avoid doing a lot of talking today, give your voice a chance to heal."

Blossom said "Yes sir." She floats up and gives him kiss on the cheek.

Narrator At breakfast Bubbles has Blossom drink some hot tea with honey which also soothes her sore throat but she doesn't feel it is as effective as the syrup. Once the kids finish their early meal they gather in the back yard.

Buttercup said "What's the plan for today Blossom?"

Blossom said "Since we had a really busy day yesterday I figured we should take it easy today. Generally these monster attacks go in cycles so we shouldn't get another for a while. Let's just relax and wait for the hotline to buzz."

Buttercup said "Sounds like a plan to me. I'm going roller blading."

Blossom said "What are you going to do Bubbles?"

Bubbles said "I want to tend my garden, my posies need attention."

Blossom said "Sounds like fun." what about you Bell"

Bell said i m going to look for that Chalk Bord we had used for Bubbles"

Buttercup said "What about you Leader Girl?"

Blossom said "I'm going to relax with a good book under the tree out here."

Narrator The kids scatter to do their own activities. Soon Buttercup is roller blading on the sidewalk in front of the house. Not going far so she can be called in case of an emergency. Bubbles gets dirty pulling weeds and watering the large flower garden by the back of the house.

Bell is inside looking for the Chalk Bord'

Blossom sits under the tree on a blanket reading books and enjoying the fresh air. After a while Blossom leans back and stretches, then she takes a deep breath of the mid-day air.

Blossom "Snif, aaahhh...those flowers in Bubbles' garden smell good from here."

Narrator Blossom takes a another deep breath and then starts coughing again. Bubbles hears this and comes over to see if her sister is all right.

Bubbles said "Are you okay Blossom?"

Blossom said (with a gravely voice) "Whoo, my throat must still be sensitive."

Bubbles said "Maybe you better go get some more cough syrup."

Blossom said "Okay, be right back."

She gets up and floats toward the house. She glances over at Bubbles, and grins at how she doesn't notice the mud on her own face. Once inside she first goes to the kitchen and finds it empty. Looking around she finds the Professor fussing with a loose hose on the washing machine in the laundry room.

Professor said "Blasted piece of..."

Blossom said "Professor?"

Professor said "Yes, is there something you want?" The tone of his voice tells her he is very preoccupied.

Blossom - said "No, it's okay. I can manage." Not wanting to be a bother to her father and trying to be more self-sufficient Blossom decides to get the cough syrup herself. She has taken it often enough to know how it's done. Going up to the bathroom upstairs Blossom opens the medicine cabinet to find one bottle of cough syrup. It is the adult strength variety.

Blossom said "That's right, the Professor said we were out of the other kind. Well cough syrup is cough syrup, this should be just as good as the other." Not finding a spoon handy Blossom decides to drink straight from the bottle, guessing at the amount she should take. Immediately she feels the warmth of the medicine on her throat but also her head feels a little dizzy from the medicine's effects. She likes it.

Blossom said "Whoa, this is good stuff. It makes me feel giddy and warm all over." She is about to put the syrup back when she stops herself "Maybe I ought to keep the bottle, in case my cough comes back and it will save me the trouble of coming up here to find it." She tucks the bottle in her dress pocket and goes back out to continue reading under the tree. But just as she is getting to the stairs she hears the hotline buzz. She rushes to the bedroom to answer it.

"Powerpuff Girls hotline, Blossom speaking. What's that

Mayor? said Blossom Mojo Jojo is using a freeze ray on the Townsville Water Park and freezing people in the water rides. We're on it!"

She puts down the phone and zooms out the bedroom window. Floating to a point above the house she looks down to see Buttercup roller blading and Bubbles in the garden.

Blossom shouting) "POWERPUFF GIRLS ASSEMBLE!" Her sisters quickly join he

Bubbles said "What's up Blossom?"

Bell said everything alright Blossom"

Blossom said "We got an emergency, Mojo Jojo is freezing Townsville's water park."

Buttercup said "That screwy monkey, it's like he knew we were taking it easy and he wanted to spoil our fun."

Blossom said "Buttercup put away your roller blades and Bubbles clean your face. AND HURRY UP ABOUT IT!"

Bell said Blossom no yelling remember you have rest your Voice"

Narrator As her sisters go to get ready Blossom feels a slight irritation in her throat from her shouting. When no one is looking she takes a quick drink from the syrup bottle in her pocket. As she feels the potent medicine soothe her body and make her head spin the others return and they zoom off to battle Mojo Jojo.

The girls fly through the air, speeding toward the center of the city. Blossom is doing unintentional flips as she follows. Buttercup covers her face with one hand in embarrassment

Bell said Blossom what up" with Flip"

Blossom said Bell stop worrying i m fine

Soon they arrive at the water park and find people frozen up to their waists in the pools. Mojo is zooming around with his jet pack looking for more targets.

Blossom Said Bell "Bubbles, use your lasers to melt the ice and free those people. Buttercup and I are going to bring Mojo down!"

Mojo Jojo said "Aha! So you brats decided to come out and play."

Buttercup said "Give it up monkey breath!"

Mojo Jojo said "I would rather freeze you, LIKE THIS!"

He aims his ray and fires it at Blossom and Buttercup.

Blossom yelled "SCATTER!"

As Buttercup dives out of the way Blossom stands her ground and blows

Nattor her ice breath. Her breath and Mojo's freeze ray meet between them and it looks like they are evenly matched in power. But Blossom's throat becomes inflamed from the coldness of her breath and she is finding it difficult to maintain her ice blast. The pain of using her power is almost too much and Mojo's ray slowly advances toward her as her own breath decreases. Suddenly Buttercup's body slams Mojo making him drop his ray gun. Bubbles catches it and breaks it in half.

Bell said great work Bubbles"

Mojo Jojo said "Ha! You have not defeated me yet! I have an ace up my sleeve!"

Narrator He pulls out what looks like a large steel glove he fits over his fist. With the cybernetic power of the glove he punches Buttercup sending her reeling. Meanwhile Blossom floats to the ground, her throat throbbing in intense pain. She pulls out the cough syrup and takes a big swallow. In a minute the pain goes away but her head is now dizzy from the effect of the medicine and she staggers around like she is drunk.

Mojo Jojo laugh "Buhwa ha ha ha ha ha! Take that you brat!"

He swings his steel fist at Buttercup again but she ducks in time.

Buttercup said "No, take this!" She grabs his steel fist and swings Mojo around in a wide circle.

Mojo Jojo "AAAAAHHHHH!"

Buttercup spins at high speed and then lets go, sending Mojo plummeting toward a small wading pool. He hits it with a big splash. As he floats there stunned and dizzy

Bell looks for Blossom. She sees her stumbling about on the ground.

Bell said "Blossom, use your ice breath to freeze Mojo in! Blossom!" As she goes to where Blossom Buttercup come with me" is Bubbles grabs a nearby fire hose and wraps Mojo in it. Seeing that Mojo is finally restrained she goes to join her sisters.

Buttercup is trying to find out why Blossom is on unsteady legs.

Bubbles said "What's wrong with Blossom?"

Buttercup said "I don't know, she acts like she's drugged."

Bubbles said "Did that bad monkey do something to her?"

Blossom said "I'm okay, leave me alone. !COUGH!" She pulls out the bottle of cough syrup and is about to drink it when Buttercup grabs it from her.

Buttercup said "What's this? You know you're not supposed to drink this stuff. The Professor says it's for grownups only."

Blossom said "Give that back! It's mine!"

Buttercup holds the bottle away from Blossom's flailing arms and keeps her at arms length.

Buttercup said "Blossom, this stuff has gotten to you. Get ahold of yourself."

Blossom - said "Mind your own business, give that back to me!"

Narrator In a blind rage Blossom swings her fist at Buttercup and connects with her sister's mouth. A small trickle of blood runs down Buttercup's chin. Buttercup stands her ground and looks defiantly at her sister.

Blossom realizes what she has done and sinks to her knees sobbing.

Blossom said "What have I done, what is the matter with me?"

Bubbles hugs her trembling sister.

Bell said i am in the lead Now Bubble Buttercup take Blossom Home" i will drop Mojo off at Jail House" i will see you three back home"

an Hour Late Back at the Utonium home the Professor examines Blossom who shivers with withdrawal symptoms.

Professor said "I told you this stuff is too strong for kids."

Blossom said "I know, I'm sorry. What is wrong with me?"

Professor said "You have become addicted to the codeine in the cough syrup. Your Chemical X metabolism increased the effects of it since codeine is in fact derived from opium, a very powerful narcotic."

Bubbles said "But you gave her the cough syrup in the first place."

Professor said "The child strength syrup I gave her at first has very little codeine in it. If given in sensible amounts it can be safe for kids. This adult strength syrup has much more codeine in it. And Blossom abused its' use."

Blossom said "Can you give me any medicine to cure me of this addiction?"

Professor said "No Blossom. The only way to beat this is for you to quit entirely, which may not be easy. We can make you as comfortable as possible but the rest is up to you."

Buttercup said "You can do it Leader Girl. We have beaten worse things together."

Bubbles said "We love you Blossom. We're here for you."

Blossom said "Thank you. And Buttercup, I'm sorry I hit you."

Buttercup said "Ah, it's okay, it was the cough syrup talking. You just get better. No matter what has happened you are still our leader."

Bell said Don't worry Sis i can lead the Girls" I took over really Quickly" " and Mojo is in Jail""

Professor said "You just get some rest. If you need me just hit the call button on the table here. Let's go girls." As he leads Bell Buttercup and Bubbles out of the room he puts the bottle of cough syrup on a counter across from the bed. Once outside of the medical room the Professor quietly closes the door.

Then Buttercup stops in her tracks.

Buttercup said "Wait Professor, you left the bottle in the room with Blossom."

Professor said "Why so I have."

Bubbles said "You got to get it away from her, she'll drink it again."

Professor said "I don't think so. Come over here."

Bell said Professor how can you be so Sure"

Narrator He leads them to a blank wall next to the door. Pushing a hidden button a panel slides open to reveal a window to the medical room. They can see Blossom laying on the bed.

Buttercup said "Wait a minute, isn't there a mirror on the other side of this wall?"

Professor said "Yes, it's a one-way mirror. Now watch."

Narrator

They see Blossom staring at the ceiling, then she sits up in bed. She sees the bottle of cough syrup and getting out of bed floats over to where it is. She picks up the bottle and stares at it.

Bubbles said "Oh no, Blossom, don't."

Bell said Blossom what are you doing'?

Narrator' Then Blossom opens the bottle, overturns it and pours the syrup down the sink next to the counter. She throws the empty bottle into the trashcan and goes back to bed, pulling the covers over her. After watching all this Buttercup wipes a tear from her cheek.

Buttercup said "I'm proud of you Leader Girl."

(The background for the end shot comes up.)

Narrator: Once again the day is saved—

(The girls appear. Blossom is in the middle Bubbles and Buttercup, Bell in their usual positions,
