the present
Professor McGonagall sighed as she walked into the infirmary to check on her cub for the fourth time this week. It had been almost a full week since Miss. Granger had been cursed and even in that time, the mood in the castle had changed dramatically. The three girls who had appeared seemingly out of nowhere had refused to leave. And with their continued presence and the infighting that each house was experiencing as the students tried to figure out where they stood with this situation left the staff playing more at referees than teachers. She had already had to place Mr. Potter and Mr. Longbottom in separate rooms away from Mr. Weasley as the three boys had nearly gotten into physical blows more than once.
"We can't be sure that the Witch still won't come in person and harm Hermione if she feels that there is a possibility that she and Draco could wake up. We should stay and make sure she is kept at bay, as not even your so-called leader of the light could handle her," the American had said after she had sat down and talked with her after day three and the fourth near fistfight that had broken out in the Gryffindor sixth-year male dorm.
She had sent out the appropriate letters that day informing the necessary parties of what had happened and that she would post them weekly with updates and or if anything were to change suddenly. She had immediately received a missive from Lady Malfoy informing her that if her son had not woken in a month, she was bringing in an independent healer to look over her son. But the transfiguration professor doubted her letter had reached the Grangers, as she hadn't heard anything back from them. She had stopped by after Hermione's second year to discuss the assignments that Miss. Granger had understandably missed and how they could be made up.
But once she had gotten through her introduction it was clear that the Muggle couple had no idea what she was speaking about. After explaining to them in length what had happened to their daughter they were understandably upset and asked about options for transferring their daughter to another magical institution. Learning that there was no way for that to happen without Hermione losing her magic and possibly having to serve jail time for it left the couple in tears as the professor stepped away to discuss the missed assignments with their daughter, promising to come in person the next time something happened to their daughter at school.
Shaking her head of the awful memory Minerva opened the door to the infirmary and stopping in her tracks as she saw that someone else was already beside the couple.
"Severus," Minerva spoke as the potion's professor looked up as his coworker.
"They are unchanged," he drawled out as he put away the rolls of parchment he had been grading.
"Very well, I was hoping to get to Poppy's diagnosis." The Scottish woman said as she pulled out her wand conjuring a second chair. "I must also ask that you take over any deputy duties for tomorrow. I need to go speak with the Grangers about what has happened as I fear the letter, I sent them hasn't arrived,"
"That will be difficult seeing as no one knows where they are," Professor Snape spoke as he watched the woman across from him blanch.
"What do you mean?" Professor McGonagall asked almost frightened.
"Last night Dumbledore was called away unexpectedly. The Granger's residence was attacked, Bellatrix was suspected but thankfully they weren't home at the time of the attack. Their house looked like it had taken the brunt of several blasting curses, and the muggle police had been alerted before the DMLE arrived at the scene but had no idea where the couple was. They haven't been back at all." He said quickly.
"How can no one know where they are?" the witch questioned.
"No one knows, not even the neighbors saw anything. Their car is still at the house and the muggle police are still trying to contact them, but are having no luck. Their receptionist has stated that she was called a mere hour before the alarms were sounded, and was told that they were headed this way to deal with a problem here, and was asked to reschedule every appointment they had for two weeks." the dower man said as he turned back to look at his godson.
Draco may be able to fool his father and mother. But Severus had noticed how much time the young man had spent watching the girl he currently lay next to. He was obsessed with her and Severus had nearly hex Draco during the tournament as he became wild with jealousy at the attention she had been getting from Krum. Thankfully Draco was skilled enough to pass off his obsession as hatred but the potions master knew differently.
"Severus," Minerva said after a long pause in the conversation, and for nearly the first time in several years, Minerva seemed to almost doubt everything she knew.
The last time had been after it had been announced that Black had betrayed the Potters, even Severus had known that there was no way that it had been true. But the potions professor had kept quiet as he had barely avoided Azkaban and it wouldn't hold if he began to publicly question the headmaster. But the Transfiguration Professor had nearly killed Dumbledore after she had learned the truth of the matter after the death of Black.
"Do you think they will wake?" She said breaking the silence.
"I am not sure I just hope that if they do, they both will be able to weather the storm that will come their way,"
