By the time Aang ran back to his friends the place was already empty. "I'm too late." He walked around to see if at least one child was out. "Did they all go home?" The airbender walked to a door and knocked on it. A woman poked her head out.
"I'm sorry Aang but it's too late to be out right now besides Jinju has school tomorrow."
"Oh, okay," Aang replied trying to keep the sadness out of his voice.
He walked away from the house trying to think of something to do. "Might as well go back home then. Or maybe I can go see Zuko."
The airbender ran off to the palace and peaked through the window. Zuko and Azula were in their room writing on sheets of paper. Aang knocked on the window gaining their attention. Zuko raised an eyebrow at the nomad as he walked to the window and opened it.
"What are you doing here?" Zuko whispered.
Aang floated in with his airbending and landed behind Zuko. "I was bored. Nobody is outside."
"It is getting late Aang and besides we got school tomorrow."
Aang furrowed his eyebrows a bit. "Oh."
"Why are you suprised anyway?" Azula asked.
"I thought someone would at least be out at this time."
"The sky is yellow and orange who would go out at this time?" Zuko asked.
"You got me there."
"So what's the real reason you're over here?" Azula asked.
"I just got home from training all day. I just want a break you know. But I can't do anything with Afiko forcing me to train every single day from morning to dusk. I can't go play or do anything."
Azula rolled her eyes at him. "Then skip it."
"I can't do that even if I wanted to."
"Come over to our house at night."
"But I have to ask Tadashi first."
"You don't have to ask him."
Aang's pupils dilated.
"He can't say no if he doesn't know what you're up to."
"But–"
"Look Aang," Zuko spoke up. "I hate to be the devil's advocate here but Azula does have a point. I mean, me and Azula train and get homeschooled yet we get time to play for the rest of the day."
"Stay here for the night so you can have at least some free time," Azula insisted.
"But Tadashi's gonna worry about me," Aang replied.
"I'm sure he won't mind if you spend one night here."
"Can I send a letter to him so he won't freak out and send a search party after me?"
Azula rolled her eyes. "Just wake up early and leave beforehand."
"You are such a goody-goody," Zuko added. "If we get tired of training for just two hours then how are you managing a full day with hardly any breaks in between? Even when you get on your breaks it's just four minutes at best!"
Aang thought about the training he went through. "Well I only have two more tiers before I can be a master. And the bright side is that I only have one more year before I can begin my waterbending training so I won't have to see that crabby man."
Zuko slapped a hand on his back. "That's the spirit! Now just have fun, you've been working your head off."
Aang quietly dropped to the floor and laid on his back. "Can I ask you two something? And do you promise not to tell anyone?"
"Sure Aang," Zuko assured.
"Is there a reason why I'm the only one who has to train every single day while everyone else get to be a normal kid?"
Zuko shrugged at him. "You're gonna have to ask someone that is older than us. We're still learning about our history."
"AANG!" a familiar voice cried.
Aang poked his head out the window then grinned sheepishly. "Hey Tadashi."
"I've been looking for you everywhere! Why didn't you come back home? Do you know what time it is? I was worried sick!"
"I was just visiting Azula and Zuko."
"You could've at least told me beforehand!" the firebender scolded. "Now, come on down so we can go home."
Aang slid out the window and floated to the ground with his airbending. Tadashi ran up to him and squeezed the nomad in a hug. Aang rested his chin on his shoulder.
"I'm just so glad that you're safe. Tomorrow you just have to do two more lethal moves and then you won't have to see Afiko anymore."
Aang sighed in annoyance. "Alright."
Tadashi grabbed his hand and walked home. Aang took a deep breath, turned around so he was facing the opposite direction of their home, then blew himself to their house. Tadashi took a minute to collect himself before entering the house.
"Oof!"
Tadashi flinched upon hearing the impact then ran to the door. Aang was slumped against the wall, rubbing the back of his head.
"Are you okay Aang?"
"Yeah, just hit the wall too hard."
"You have to be careful when you airbend Aang. Closed spaces like this can be very dangerous."
"Really?"
"Yes, really." Tadashi picked his son up and set him back on his feet. "You need to use your airbending responsibly. You could hurt yourself."
"Okay."
"Now tomorrow you're going to learn the last two tiers so you won't have to see Afiko all that much."
Aang jumped and twirled around in excitement. "Alright! Yes!"
"Just promise me that you won't freak out okay?"
"Freak out about what?"
"About what you're gonna see."
"I've seen plenty of agni kais that ended with people dying, so how is this airbending tier is going to freak me out?"
Tadashi started walking to his room. "Just wait until tomorrow."
