The next day, Owen took Valentina, who was carrying Julianne and Katie, to the daycare before going to work as Reese and her friends, who basically had no homework to do, went to the T-Rex paddock to meet Wu there. Their mission was simple: measure Paddock 9 and adapt it's size for two dinosaurs or even more. Owen promised his niece to bring her to the T-Rex pen, which made Valentina extremely excited and curious about what would happen there. Valentina waved goodbye to her uncle as he went to work.
At the T-Rex paddock, Reese and her friends, all of whom were carrying a Colt M4A1 carbine, patiently waited for Wu to show up. They knew they were here both as assistants and bodyguards in case things would go wrong. Wu then showed up and nodded to the guard, who then input a code, opening a staff door through which Wu, Rhea, Mark, Reese and Beverly walked towards a staff only corridor leading to the inside of the pen itself.
Meanwhile at the daycare, Valentina and other infant children were watched over by Joseline, a heavy-set Brazilian woman who had a natural talent with kids, especially infant kids. But Joseline and her colleagues also got warned by Owen about two white dinosaurs and were therefore not surprised when they spotted Julianne and Katie running by Valentina before playing with colorful blocks. But the two hybrids looked at all the human hatchlings being watched over by older persons.
"Josewine. Juwianne and Katie want to pway with othew chiwdwen hewe!" Valentina said.
"I know. Children, don't bother these two animals!" Joseline told the curious children.
The little kids at the daycare then began playing with Valentina and the two hybrids. Their games were assemble colorful blocks, or folding paper planes with already used sheets of paper. As Valentina, the two Indominus Rexes and the other infant kids were having a blast, a caretaker named April called them and told them to set in line. As the children stood in line, Valentina was carrying Julianne and Katie inside her pink bag.
In the meantime, at Paddock 9, Reese was leading Wu to the northernmost corner of the place when she suddenly spotted a sleeping Roberta. Reese knew a T-Rex was a night predator, since it's accute sense of smell could lead the T-Rex to a prey even in pitch dark. And Roberta could pick the scent of any asshole up to ten kilometers away. That's why Wu and the four teenagers had sprayed carnivore dinosaur poop all over their body, courtesy of Hamada's men.
"Clear right." Reese reported.
"Clear left." Mark stated.
"We're good then. Starting measures." Wu told them as he began using his laser rangefinder.
As Wu wrote down the distance between the corners of the paddock, Rhea and Beverly aimed their M4A1 carbine at the sleeping T-Rex in case she would wake up. As the two of them relaxed after seeing Roberta yawn but not wake up, Wu took some other instruments to measure temperature, humidity, air pressure and wrote all of the data on his notebook.
At the daycare, Valentina waited for her uncle by coloring some books while the other children got picked up by their parents. After a while, Julianne chirped, letting Valentina know a man was coming for the three of them. Just then, Valentina recognized her uncle. The three-year-old took the two hybrids in her scarf and rushed to her uncle.
"Uncwe Owen!" Valentina excitedly yelled.
"Alright! Let's go to the T-Rex paddock." Owen said as he picked his niece up.
"Hi, Owen. Valentina and her two pets were very calm." Joseline told.
"Yes, true. And she has been coloring this." April told handing him the coloring book.
Owen then took the book and carried his niece to the T-Rex paddock, where he entered a log-shapped viewing corridor. Once there, they saw the sleeping Roberta as well as the working Wu and his helpers for the day. Valentina was in awe at the big brown theropod while her pets Julianne and Katie looked curiously at the huge animal in front of them. Owen also saw his daughter and her friends nodding as Wu finished writing his notes before retreating to the staff entrance.
"Aw. Weese had finished hew homewowk?" Valentina asked her uncle.
"We can say it that way." Owen told his niece.
Just as Owen was leaving the exhibit, he spotted Hoskins coming into the exhibit. An angry Owen then put his niece down before jogging towards Hoskins and began discussing dinosaur matters with the head of security. As the two adults were tensely chatting, Valentina left the scene unfold and opened a door she stepped through, ignoring the door was actually a second staff door. Valentina then walked backwards with Julianne and Katie in her scarf while Hoskins tried to convince Owen to use dinosaurs as search and rescue animals. Then, Roberta woke up and saw the little creature in her pen. Valentina then stumbled and hit Roberta's nose when Reese, being the last one to leave the paddock, saw the scene and raised her M4A1 carbine before firing off a shot.
Beverly, Rhea and Mark then turned around just as Roberta roared at Reese, who kept firing nowhere in particular. The T-Rex then turned around and began licking Valentina. The toddler then began giggling uncontrolably just as Reese and her friends fired their M4A1 carbine nowhere in particular to force Roberta to focus on them instead. Reese then stopped firing and reloaded her M4A1 carbine before running to Valentina and pick up the giggling toddler as well as the wet Julianne and Katie. But the T-Rex didn't budge and just roared at the firing teens.
"Weese! She won't huwt you! Pwease put me down!" Valentina pleeded.
"No way!" Reese yelled as she came into the tunnel, followed by her friends.
Just after Rhea and Mark ran through the tunnel after Reese, Beverly closed the trapdoor shut before locking it from inside. But Roberta still didn't budge and went back to sleep, waiting for showtime. The dinosaur then loudly snorred as Reese put her cousin down. The teenager couldn't believe she didn't get chased by a huge carnivore, which would happen every time Reese came into the paddock.
Just then, Owen and Hoskins, having heard the gunshots, arrived near Wu and his group. Hoskins felt guilty for almost causing a person's death, albeit inadvertently. Looking at him, Reese could see genuine guilt in Hoskins' eyes and shook her head. Owen picked his niece up before he and his daughter went next to the wall behind them.
"Hey, Sunshine. You shouldn't have run in this paddock." Owen told his niece.
"I'm sowwy." Valentina said sadly.
"I'm sorry! You can say it! The Utahraptors weren't enough! Now Roberta! What else do you need? Mosie?" Reese asked.
"No! But she didn't mean to huwt me! Neithew did she want to huwt you!" Valentina pleadingly stated.
Reese hit her forehead and swiped some sweat away. The teenager took her equipment and left the room while Owen brought Valentina home. Owen knew his niece needed a shower. But first, he needed some explanations as to why his niece was treated nicely by the dinosaurs. Fortunately for him, Wu had created another dinosaur as a side project, but would use the animal as a guinea pig for an experiment the next day. Wu also wanted to perform the experiment but decided to wait some time for Owen to clean his niece before doing the experiment and checkup with Valentina. The scientist knew the toddler must be tired from her encounter with Roberta.
On the next day, Owen carried his niece to Wu's secret lab, knowing Reese wouldn't say a word of the secret lab even if she knew about it for helping Wu multiple times with side projects designed to bread small dinosaurs as legally-owned pets. As Reese stood guard at the entrance, Wu plugged Valentina's head with electrodes while Owen opened a set of cages containing Compies before nodding to the scientist. Wu then turned his computer on to prepare for the experiment.
Wondering what was going on, Valentina asked, "Uncwe Owen. What awe we doing hewe?"
"Checkup." Reese told her cousin.
"But I'm pewfectwy fine!" Valentina answered.
"Yeah. But has to see with the dinos." Owen gently responded.
"Okay. I'm starting... now!" Wu announced as he launched a brainwave measurement procedure.
Owen then opened one cage and a green-feathered Compie left the place and ran to where Valentina was sitting. Valentina then saw the Compsognathus looking at her before tilting it's head. The toddler then looked closely at the chirping Compy. Meanwhile, Reese felt her phone vibrating. Reading the message, the teenager understood it was Beverly trying to tell her that Bev, Rhea and Mark were in the control room.
"Hi hewe. What awe you?" Valentina innocently asked the Compy.
The Compy chirped an affirmative answer before jumping next to Valentina's hand. Reese then displayed Beverly's text to her father who nodded. Owen knew Reese had a camcorder on her shoulder and would record a video of the experiment. Reese turned her camcorder on and filmed Valentina playfully talk with the Compies, which were released as Valentina's brain remained normal for a calm person. Owen now knew the discovery must be told to Claire and Reese turned her camcorder off before connecting the video, Valentina's demeanor and Beverly's text together.
"Can we keep them? Pwetty pwease!" Valentina pleaded reffering to the Compies.
Reese then picked her vibrating phone and answered, "Yeah?"
"Reese, it's Bev. Claire wants to see you, your pop and Wu. It's about the kid." Beverly replied on the phone.
Reese then made a face to her father and Wu before the former picked Valentina up as the latter put the Compies in their cage. Reese knew they were balls deep in trouble.
