Achieving Goals-Chapter 2

Stephanie and Colin have known Login since they were all in diapers, playing in the park with the nannies. In about 3rd grade Finn was introduced to the group.

By the time they were in 5th grade, they had a reputation. They were Peter Pan, and the lost boys. Stephanie was their Wendy. Logan was Peter Pan. The four of them, along with a few others, run the school.

When 6th grade came along, it was time for Middle School. Middle School meant boarding school. Steph and Colin ended up in the same school, but Logan and Finn were both separated. It took them a couple of years of being thrown out of this boarding school, then another, that the four of them landed in High School together.

Now, I know you are all wondering what is so special about these four young people. Well, they are among Hartford's elite. You see, these four are Trust Fund Babies. Their futures were spelled out before they were out of the womb. Their destiny was set the minute the sperm hit the egg.

Again, you asked, what makes these four young people special? Their total Trust Funds could settle the national debt. Well, not really, but with a few of their friends, they would come close.

Stephanie and Rory met at Yale, Rory's sophomore year. They were introduced when Rory started dating Login. Adding Rory to the Peter Pan group meant she needed to be a character. She was dubbed Tinker Bell. Shy, innocent, bookworm. Always carries a book with her. This is the impression you get when you first meet her. Her true friends know she has an adventurous side. You just have to pull it out of her.

Stephanie and Rory met up at the coffee kiosk after their last class on Friday. They both had classes on the 'old campus'. The apartment Rory shared with Logan overlooked the 'old campus'. They were on their way to meet the gang at the apartment.

"Has Logan said anything to you about this summer?" Stephanie asked Rory while they waited in line for their coffee.

"No," she told her. "But I need to talk to him. I applied for an internship at the New York Times. I think I have a good chance of getting it. I want to work this summer. I was accepted to Columbia for undergrad."

"Will you live with Logan in New York? Is that where Mitchum is setting him up?" Steph asked, as she paid for the coffees.

"That's the problem. Logan hasn't asked and Mitchum has said. Every time I try to talk to him about it, he changes the subject." Rory tells her as they start the walk across the campus.

"I had a meeting with my dad yesterday. He wants me to meet him Sunday in New York. He wants me to look at his apartment. See if I want to live there while I attend Columbia. Hayden Law also has 2 apartments. He wants me to look at all three, see which one I would prefer." Rory told Steph. She sighed.

"I tried talking to Logan. He knows I was accepted at Columbia, starting the fall quarter. Do you think he wants us to stay together, or maybe this is just a college sweetheart kind of thing?" Rory asked one of her best friends.

Rory knows Stephanie is a loyal friend. She knows she can tell her anything. The only problem is Stephanie is also loyal to Logan.

"No, this is not just a college fling. Logan loves you. He is just… I don't know how to explain it….. He knows him, Collin, and Finn, well, maybe not Finn, but Colin and Logan know that as soon as they graduate they have to become the responsible men that their families expect. Logan will start his training and Colin will work while attending law School." Rory interrupted Steph before she could finish.

"I know all this, but I can't just stand around and wait. I have to have a plan." She told her. "I have been putting my dad off. I told him I wanted to wait to see if I get the internship, but he told me I need to be in New York this summer, even if I didn't get the internship. He wants me to get settled before I start back to school. I think he just wants me to have fun. He knows I can't relax if I don't have everything settled. I have put him off long enough." She sighed.

As they continued to walk to the apartment, they talked. Rory told her that her mom wanted her to go on a roller-coaster tour. They were laughing. The serious conversation was over.

What they didn't realize was Logan and Finn were right behind them. They could hear the entire conversation. Finn keeps watching Logan. He didn't want to see either of his friends hurt. But if one of them didn't firm up their future, he was afraid that their future together will not happen.
