Achieving Goals -Chapter 5

When Logan left the Manor, his head was spinning. He had so much to think about. He needed to call his sister and let her know the newest revelation. He needed to talk to Rory so they could firm up plans. They needed to make sure London was a part of those plans. He wants Rory to go with him, but it may be where he has to go by himself. That would mean long distance. Would she want to do long distance?

Before he could get too much into his own thoughts, he needed to call Honor. He called and told her he would swing by and talk with her. This needed to be done in person.

When he pulled into the drive, he could see Honor standing at the window waiting for him. When he got to the door, she was still in her pajamas. Honor and Josh have only been married a couple of years. Honor worked as HPG event coordinator. She worked out of the Hartford office.

Logan and Honor were sitting down at the kitchen bar, eating breakfast. Josh was on the golf course with his dad and some clients. Logan was not sure how to begin. He could tell Honor was anxious. She may know more than he thinks.

"I met with dad this morning." Logan started. She interrupted before he could go any further.

"Please tell me you are not in trouble again. Logan, it is too close to graduation." Honor told him. She loved her brother. As far as she is concerned, he and Josh are her only family.

"No, I went to talk to him to find out where he is assigning me when I graduate and enter the real world." He told her with a chuckle.

"Oh, no, please don't tell me he is shipping you off to Africa or somewhere like that." Honor told him. She had finished her eggs and was just drinking her coffee and picking at the fruit on her plate.

"No, we come to an understanding. I will tell you about that later. I need to tell you about the conversion I had with him after we settled my business." Logan paused to gauge Honor's reaction. She nodded. Waiting for him to continue.

"Did you know dad has been seeing a therapist for over a year now?" Logan asked. Honor's eyes got huge. "Honor, you can not tell anyone, well maybe Josh, but only Josh. What I am going to tell you is going to blow your mind. Dad will call a family meeting and inform us all on some of this. I am not sure how much he will tell, so you can not let him know I told you." Honor's eyes were getting bigger and bigger. This has to be bad.

"About two years ago, dad had a cancer scare. It was right before grandpa died." Honor opened her mouth, but Logan shook his head. "Let me tell you everything, then you can ask questions," Logan told her. Honor nodded.

"He found a lump under his right breast. He ignored it, as most men do. It started to grow. He finally went to the doctor. They did blood work, told him all signs pointed toward cancer, but the only way to know for sure is a biopsy. He was in London at the time, so he scheduled the biopsy... Honor, he told no one." Logan was shaking his head. He couldn't imagine facing something like this alone.

"Due to some problems with his insurance, it took almost a month for the results to come back. He was a wreck. He offered to pay cash, to get the results back quicker, but because it had already been sent to the lab, cash would not help." Logan told her.

"He told me that was probably one of the few times that he has felt helpless. Do you remember Dad being in London for an entire month?" Logan asked. Honor shook her head.

"We wouldn't know. He is very private. I don't know where he is when he calls me." Honor told him.

"Well, apparently that had an effect on him. The fact that his family was not concerned that he was gone for a month. When he finally got his results back, it was benign. This should have made him happy. But he had fallen so deep into depression that even good news did not make him happy. His doctor put him on several types of anxiety meds, but nothing seemed to work. His doctor then suggests therapy." Logan was still watching Honor.

"He has been in therapy for a while now.. Honor, he has changed." Logan saw the skepticism on her face. "No, Honor, he has changed. I didn't notice it until today. When he started asking my opinion on where he should assign me, then he gave me advice on Rory. I was shocked. When he started telling me about his cancer and going to therapy, I remembered some things that happened in that time period. He was changing. He told me he wanted to be a better father. That he didn't want to be a father, he wanted to be a dad." Honor was sitting there with tears running down her cheeks.

"That's not all. He is divorcing Mom." Logan told her. He paused there. Honor needed to process that information. He sat there and waited. When she finally looked up, she was smiling.

"I probably shouldn't be smiling. You and I both know that neither one of our parents is good for the other." Honor told him. Logan nodded.

"Honor, she doesn't know," Logan told her. "Also, the prenup states that after all children have reached the age of 21, mom gets a lump sum. He said it was equal to some formula the lawyers had. Then she gets spousal support. She gets to keep any jewelry that is not family heirlooms, and any artwork or furniture given to her as a present." Logan told her.

"The amount decreased a lot after I reached the age of 21. Dad assured me she would have enough to live off of. She may not be able to go to the 'spa' once a month, but she will have enough." He told her.

Honor and Logan sat and talked for a while. He told her about the job assignment and how he gave him a choice about London.

Logan had a lot to think about on his way home. What he hadn't told Honor was that he asked his dad about hiring Rory to freelance while she was in school. This, he was sure, would have to be handled with kid gloves.
