Achieving Goals-Chapter 8

By the time the gang graduated and took tons of pictures, they were already tired of the adults. On the way to the Hartford County Club, where the graduation party was being held, the group in the limo were making suggestions on what they could be doing instead of attending this party. By far Finn's was the most creative.

The pre-graduation cocktails had worn off. That was okay. The limo was fully stocked. Well, it was until Finn got in. Logan and Rory both were careful of their intake. They wanted to have fun and they will after they have done the responsible thing. They will mingle, they do the things that make their parents and grandparents happy. They would present themselves as the golden couple.

Several of his father's business associates hinted that they were expecting him to propose tonight. That would be the next step in proper society. It's a good thing he only had another hour to be proper, then he had some improper things to do.

Rory eased up beside him while he was listening to one of the men go on and on about the latest stock change and how they could not wait for him to be a part of the everyday business of HPG.

"Gentlemen, I apologize, but if it will be okay with you, I would like to steal my boyfriend for a few dances," Rory said as she slipped her arm into Logan.

"Of, course. We have monopolized too much of his time. We are not so old that we forgot what it was like. You young people go, have a good time." Mr. Herman Ingram told them. The other men in the group agreed.

Logan was snickering as they moved to the middle of the dance floor.

"Very smooth Ms. Gilmore. I taught you well." Logan told her. They danced for a couple of songs before Finn eased toward them with a very beautiful blonde. Rory nor Logan saw him coming. They were too into each other.

"Mate," Finn said, causing both Rory and Logan to jump. "Is it time yet?"

"Finn, we still have to sit through the toast," Rory told him. Logan smiled down at her.

"How many?" Finn asked. "I need to get out of here. My mom keeps introducing me to all the girls. Mate you know I am not picky but these girls have dollar signs in their eyes." Logan was laughing. The blonde with him had left when he talked about not being picky.

"Finn, you are in luck. Looks like they are going toward the stage. Maybe it will not be too long." Rory told Finn as she tugged Logan toward their table. If she had to listen through all these toast, she was going to do it sitting down.

As they sat, listening to the toast from their friends' families, Rory's thoughts drifted to the Sunday in New York that she met with her dad and mom.

They visited three apartments. Rory had already done her research. Of course, she thought she was doing research on which apartment she would be staying in. She didn't realize at the time of the research that she was being given an apartment.

After visiting all three, the four of them sat down in the coffee shop on the first floor of the last apartment they looked at. This was the apartment her mom wanted her to take. All because of the coffee shop on the bottom floor. Everyone was giving their opinion.

Lorelai liked the one with the coffee shop on the first floor, but Logan and Chris both were leery because the security was not as tight. It was hard to keep people out of a building that they could freely enter for coffee.

Logan liked the one with the private swimming pool, but he was keeping that to himself. He didn't want her to think he was choosing for her. Lorelai liked that one too if she could not have her living in the coffee shop building, but Chris was still a little leary. He was concerned about her security. Logan would be living with her, but he knew as well as anyone, Logan would be working late nights and there would surely be business trips.

They had been sitting in the coffee shop for over an hour when Chris had an idea.

"Rory, think about the two apartments we looked at that you liked. Okay, now you are in the 5 bedroom 4 bath townhouse. Tell me what you liked about the house." Chris told her. She kept her eyes closed.

"I liked that it had an office. This would be great for Logan and I need somewhere to spread out with all my books while studying." She told him.

"Logan?" Chris said. "What about you?" Logan looked at Chris then Rory.

"I think this should be Rory's decision, but if you are asking me my opinion. I like the study. I also like the backyard….."He paused. "But what I do not like is the lack of security. I know there are 3 doors you have to enter before you get to the front door, but no doorman. I will be there, but there will be late nights….." Logan trailed off.

"Okay, I agree with Logan. That is two down. So, what is it that would be holding you back from the 3 bedroom 3 bath on 110th street?" Chris asked.

"I like it. It is not too big, the closets are great…." She said,

"But?" Chris asked.

"The only thing I really don't like is that it has no office. I know we could use one of the bedrooms and that would be fine." She said.

"But?" Lorelai said. "Rory, I know you. There is something about this apartment that you wish was different."

"It's silly. I should just be happy that I am getting an apartment." She told them. They all looked at her.

"Okay, I don't like the bedroom/office down the hall. It would be better if there was a door in the living room." She told them. She had her head down. This was embarrassing. She should just be happy that she has an apartment that will allow her to have an office.

"That can be fixed," Chris said. He stood up. "Let's go, We are going back to that apartment. If we are going to do renovations, let's do everything you want." He said with a smile. He was happy that he was able to do this for his daughter. He and Lorelai seemed to be rekindling a relationship. He was able to make his daughter happy. All was good."

Rory was brought out of her thought when Mitchum and Shira stood on the platform. Oh, no, please don't embarrass Logan. They sat and listened to the rest of the speeches. There were mentions of heirs and Trust Funds. She was just ready to get out of here. She wanted to spend some much-needed time with her boyfriend and friends.
