Achieving Goals-Chapter 9
Logan woke before Rory. It took him a few minutes to realize where he was. They spent the night at the Hayden Manor. They didn't get there until late, or early, it is depending on how you look at it. He was propped up on his elbows, watching her.
"If you are going to watch me sleep, you could at least wake me up the right way." She told him as she reached for him. She kissed him. When she tried to deepen it, he stopped her.
"You remember where we are, right?" He asked her. The smile left her face.
"Yeah, I forgot. What time is it?" She asked. Logan was looking at his watch when they heard a noise outside of the bedroom door. Rory and Logan both froze. Then they heard a giggle. It was Gigi. Then came the small little knock. Rory looked at Logan and he nodded. He had enough sense to sleep in basketball shorts.
"Logan," Rory said loudly, "I hear something outside the door. I am scared." They were both holding back, laughing. They could hear Gigi giggling.
"Rory, don't worry." He said just as loud. "I will protect you." The giggling continued outside the door.
"It's me," Gigi told them and she opened the door. This was an old house, and the doors were heavy. At 4 years old, it would have been too hard for her to open without help. Just as Rory thought, her mom was outside the door with Gigi.
When the door was open, Gigi ran to the bed. Logan reached down and helped her up. Gigi was used to Logan. She stayed with them several times over the last few years. Several times Rory and Logan were mistaken for her parents when they had Gigi with them.
"Miss Gigi, what are you doing up so early this morning? We missed you last night at the party." Logan told her. He was blowing raspberries on her stomach.
"Me not old enough, daddy said. But he said you be here today. We can have a party. We have cake." She told them both.
Lorelai had made her way into the room by now. She was laughing at the couple playing with Gigi.
"Grandmother is expecting you for breakfast in about 10 minutes. She will also expect you to be dressed." Lorelai told them. Her eyebrow raised. "This means I need to take this little one to get dressed." She grabbed Gigi from Logan and headed to the door. "10 minutes. Don't be late."
When they got down to breakfast. Grandmother Francine was sitting at the table reading the morning paper. When they entered the room, she didn't put the paper down, but greeted them.
"Rory, Logan, good morning. I trust you slept well?" she asked. They had a seat as the maid brought them both a cup of coffee.
"Yes ma'am," Logan said. She put the paper down and looked at him.
"It is my understanding that you will be a part of this family at some point?" She asked a question, but it was more like a statement. Logan was not sure what to say. "I believe you should call me Grammy Fran. That is what Gigi calls me. And Rory, Grandmother is just too formal for me."
She stood up to get a refill of fruit from the sideboard. She was dressed in a purple tracksuit and white Keds tennis shoes. Rory had never seen her like this. She had only seen her in her formal attire.
"Grammy Fran, I have never seen you dress so casually. Are you going for a run today?" Rory asked. She started laughing.
"My child, you would have to have the paramedic on stand by if I was to run. No, I am staying in today. There is no need to dress up." She told them with a smile. "Help yourself to breakfast." She sat back down at the table.
It wasn't long before Gigi, Lorelai, and Chris entered the formal dining room. Lorelai helped Gigi fix her plate, then she fixed her own.
The six of them ate and talked until it was time to go to the lawyer's office. Before they left, Grammy Fran asked to speak to Rory alone. They went into her papa's study.
"I am sure you will be overwhelmed today. I know that Christopher and Richard have explained your Trust Fund. Today you will find out the amounts. I know you were not raised with money, but you are a Hayden. I will not tell you how to spend your money, or how to act, but I do want to remind you that you come from a very important family. Don't let anyone take advantage of you. When word gets out, you will have friends you did not know you had." She told her.
"I know the group of friends that you hang with. Is that what they say nowadays?" She asked, laughing at her own joke. "This group of friends has their own money. I am not worried about them. I am not worried about Logan. I just don't want you to get overwhelmed. I love you, Rory. I know it took me a long time to tell you, but I have always loved you. I was just married to one of the most stubborn man in the world. I am just glad you and he could get to know each other before he died." She smiled, but you could tell she was sad.
"Grammy Fran, I love you too. I wish things could have been better, but as you said. He was stubborn, and he raised a stubborn son, who just fell in love with a stubborn woman." Rory and Grammy Fran were laughing.
"There is one more thing, then I will let you go. You were told about all your Trust Fund, with the expectation of one. You will learn about it today. This Trust Fund was set up by my mother before you were ever born. It was designed for any grandchildren I have. This money is for you to spend any way you want. I prefer it to be spent on foolish things. Like expensive purses or shoes. This money will be yours. You will not have to answer to anyone about the way it will be spent," Grammy Fran was smiling from ear to ear. "The other account, I guess you could call it a trust fund, but it is set up for your wedding. This money is to be spent on your wedding. This way you can have the wedding you want. You will not have to depend on anyone to pay for your wedding, so no one has a say in what kind of wedding you have." She kissed her on the cheek. "Now, go before you give your dad a heart attack."
