Achieving Goals-Chapter 10

After their visit to the lawyer's office to sign all the Trust paperwork, Logan and Rory spent the next week getting everything together for their move. Logan and Rory have visited the apartment many times to get the feel of how they wanted everything. Steph, Lane, Lorelai, and Rory did most of the shopping for the apartment the weeks before finals. Some brick-and-mortar shopping, but most of the shopping was done online. Most everything had been shipped and set up at the new apartment. They planned to be living in New York by Friday. It was Friday morning.

Logan was awake. It was still early. They stayed at the Morgan in New York. They planned to be at the apartment before 10:00. One last delivery was expected. It was their bedroom suite. Richard had it shipped from England. They had seen pictures. She liked it well enough, but she would have been happy with a bed from Ikea. Her grandfather was excited to give it to her.

Her grandma helped her pick out the highboard and dresser to match. The bed is an English Tudor Bed. It is made of hand-scraped cherry which reveals the vibrant wood grain and rich color. It has a dark finish. Overall height is 88". She was not sure how old the bed was, but it had been in one of Trix's homes in England. Her grandfather had it put in storage. He intended to give it to Rory all along. This was a perfect time.

When they entered the building, they were greeted by the doorman. Rory and Logan had been enough to know him by name. They still needed to be introduced to the rest of the door staff. Logan told Jeffery that they were expecting a delivery.

Rory immediately started unpacking. She wanted to get this apartment in the proper order. They were leaving next week for London. They would be in London for the summer. Logan would work. He promised on the weekends they would explore England. She was taking some online courses. She also agreed to write a travel piece for one of Logan's papers. She would write under a pseudonym.

She was still waiting to find out about her internship with the New York Times. Mitchum told her that if she did not get it, she could intern with one of his papers. She told him she would think about it.

"Ace," Logan yelled from the office. "I just got off the phone with Dad." he was walking through the apartment looking for her. He found her in their bathroom. She was organizing her makeup at the built-in vanity. "He said the IT guy will be here tomorrow around 3:00 to install the connections to the HPG server. Before he gets here, we need to decide on the setup for the office."

"Can't he just put the thingy on the wall?" She stopped what she was doing.

"Yeah, I guess so, but wouldn't it be better if we had everything as we want it?" He asked.

"Oh, I plan on having it like I want it before he gets here, but I may change my mind." She told him. She was smiling.

"Junction box." He said. She looked at him. Why was he saying junction box? "That is what you call the thingy on the wall." They both got a laugh out of it.

Later that night, the gang all descended on the apartment. There are several bedrooms, but they are not furnished yet.. Logan and Rory decided not to furnish them yet. The office was set up, but Rory wanted one bedroom turned into a library/study. They were still deciding which one. So they didn't have to worry about anyone crashing in their apartment.

Colin would work out of the New York office and attend Columbia Law School. Stephanie will work at her father's office learning the ropes. She and Colin are living together close to Columbia campus. Finn has a suit at The Morgan. He will take over his family's East Coast interest. He also was in training. The group had pre-meal drinks, then headed out to eat.

"What weekend will be best?" Steph asked. She and Rory had their calendars out. They were planning a shopping trip to London.

"I'm not sure, Logan." Rory turned to him to get his attention. "Steph and I are planning a shopping trip while we are in London. Is there any weekend you think would be best for them to visit?"

"Not sure. Really won't know until I get settled in, but I know Honor is planning a trip. She wants to take you shopping. Maybe coordinate with her," Logan told them. Rory looked at Steph.

"Sure, I don't have a problem shopping with Honor," Steph said. "She knows all the best shops." They enjoyed their meal before hitting a club. Rory told Logan this would not be a habit. She could not hit the clubs every night.

The next morning, Logan and Rory woke up in their new apartment. Rory wanted to go to the bookstore at Columbia. She had her reading list for the fall semester. She wanted to be sure to take them with her to London. She always likes to get a jump start.

She and Logan were just getting out of the shower when they heard the doorbell ring. They both looked at each other. Noone should be able to come up without the doorman calling first. She grabbed a robe and Logan grabbed his jeans and a tee-shirt.

He answered the door and was attacked by a 4-year-old squealing. Behind her were Lorelai and Chris.

"Come on in. Gigi, I haven't seen you in a few weeks. What's the deal?" He asked as he motioned for the adults to enter. Rory came out of the bedroom with her hair in a towel. She had on a pair of shorts and a tank top.

"Hey guys," she told them. "What brings you by?" Lorelai and Chris both looked at each other.

"So, now that you have your own apartment and you are living with a boy, I can't stop by and visit with my favorite daughter?" Lorelai asked.

"That has nothing to do with it. You usually call before you stop by." Rory said.

"But what would be the fun of that?" Lorelai asked. She was grinning. "Glad we didn't use our key," she said as she walked past Logan. Logan looked at Chris, then at Rory. Chris was shaking his head. He would love to think that Logan was just living with his daughter to keep her safe. Yes, that is what he is telling himself.

"Key?" Rory said. "Dad, please tell me you didn't give Momma a key." Rory was pleading with Chis. Chris was laughing.

"No, sweetheart. I don't have a key." He told her. "If something happens and I need to get in, the doorman will call security. They have a key."

"Speaking of the doorman, how did you get up without him calling?" Rory asked. Logan was glad she asked. He wanted to know, but didn't feel he should be the one to ask..

"I just batted my eyelashes and told him I wanted to surprise you," Lorelai told her. Chris was laughing. So was Logan.

"You think she is kidding, but she is not," Chris said in between laughing at the look on Logan's face.

They visited for a little while. Rory gave them a tour. Gigi claimed a bedroom. After the tour, she asked for Rory's tablet. Rory was used to Gigi watching movies and playing games on her phone and on her tablet.

While the adult talked, Gigi was not playing games. She was shopping. Rory had several websites bookmarked from when they were shopping for the apartment and their trip to London.

"Look, this is what I want for my room," Gigi told them, showing Rory and Logan the tablet. It was a purple Beauty and the Beast comforter on a white twin bed. Logan took the tablet from her.

"Gigi, how did you find this?" Rory asked. She knew she had sites bookmarked, but she had not been shopping for kids' stuff.

"I just swiped till I could type and I typeded BED and lots of stuff came up. I kept swiping till I founded what I wanted. You know, on TV they say swipe till you find it." Gigi told them as if it was natural for a 4-year-old to know how to find the comforter that she wanted in her bedroom.

"Can you buy that for me, Logan?" Gigi asked. Logan looked at Gigi, then at Rory, then back at Gigi.

"Sure, do you want the same type of bed that is in the picture?" he asked. She smiled and nodded her head.

"No, don't tell her you will buy her the bed and bed set," Chris said.

"Why not?" Logan asked. He had Gigi in his lap. "She said she wanted it. We have to decorate that room anyway. Right Ace. We decorated it like this, then Gigi will always have a room to stay in." Rory nodded her head. She agreed.

"Gigi, it will be set up for you when we get back from London. Okay?" Rory asked. Gigi nodded.

Lorelai and Rory discussed when she would fly over to see her. Rory told her about the shopping trip. Lorelai told her to keep her posted. Maybe she could fly over too. Rory told her she was sure she could catch a ride with Steph and Honor.

As they were leaving, the five of them were at the door. Christopher had Gigi on his hip and Lorelai was already in the hall.

"Oh, buy the way. Your mother and I are engaged." Chris said as he stepped out into the hall so Logan could close the door. Rory and Logan both froze.

"Congratulations!" Logan was the first to recover. He looked at Rory.

"Yeah, congratulations,' Rory told them. Her eyes were wide. You could tell she was surprised. "Would you like to come back in so we can talk about this?" she asked.

"Nope, we will catch you later," Lorelai said and entered the elevator with Chris following with Gigi on his hip.

Logan and Rory just stood there. Neither one knew what to say or do. She didn't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing.
