TW mention of rape
Meredith has only been rescued for a few days now and the only time that she's been able to bathe was when she has been giving a sponge bath. The only time that has happened though was when she first arrived and the nurses gave her a sponge bath while she was still sedated. Giving Meredith a sponge bath while she's awake could be a bit of a challenge.
Meredith has been asking to shower the last few days but the nurses and everyone else has told her no, that she's too unstable to shower by herself. But she could have a sponge bath. She has refused every time.
However this time the nurses have agreed that enough is enough. They completely understand that she is scared but she really needs a bath now.
A nurse walks into Meredith's hospital room with supplies for a sponge bath.
"Hi Meredith! How are we today?" The nurse cheerfully asks, hoping Meredith will talk to her.
"I'm fine." Meredith mutters, not looking at the nurse.
"Meredith, I need to give you a sponge bath today." The nurse says.
Meredith whips her head around to look at the nurse, her eyes wide open in fear. "What?! NO!"
She cries.
"I know you are scared but you need a bath. It'll be easy and over before you know it." The nurse says, trying to reason with her.
"No! Don't want a sponge bath!" Meredith yells fearfully.
Nurses in the hallway hear her and sigh knowing that it's going to be a tough situation for the nurse with Meredith.
"Mer…" The nurse says, coming closer with her supplies.
Meredith sees this and starts sobbing harder thinking the nurse wants to rape her. "Please! No! Don't touch me!" Meredith wails. "No! No! Please! I'll be good! Don't touch me!"
The nurse sighs and pages another nurse to help her.
A second nurse walks in and sees Meredith sobbing on the bed.
"No, no, no, no." Meredith begs. "Please! I can't go through this again! I can't!"
"Meredith, you are okay. No one is going to hurt you. We need to get you clean."
The nurse that came into the room decides to just start and brings the supplies right next to Meredith on the bed. The nurse takes Meredith's gown off of her and Meredith shrieks in terror.
"Please! I'll be good! Don't hurt me!" Meredith sobs loudly. When the nurse that's beside her turns her back for a moment, Meredith sits up in just her bra and underwear and gets out of bed and starts walking on her casted leg. "No! No! No! No!" She sobs completely freaking out. "Want Cristina!"
"Meredith please get back into bed." The nurse says. "You can't walk on that leg!"
Meredith, in pain, continues to walk and goes into the bathroom and closes and locks the door behind her. "I want Cristina!" She sobs to herself.
"Meredith, please let us in!" The nurse begged.
"No! You'll just hurt me!" Meredith wailed.
"Meredith please!" The other nurse said loudly.
"What's going on here? I heard Meredith screaming and crying." Bailey, who just got onto this floor asked. "I could hear her all the way from the elevators at the end of the hallway. Wait. Where is Meredith?" Bailey realizes Meredith was not in her bed asked. "Why is her gown on the bed?"
The three of them can still hear Meredith sobbing loudly in the bathroom. She is reliving what she went through with Finn in her head over and over again.
"We were trying to give Meredith a sponge bath like you asked us to and she started freaking out which is what we expected. I had to have Nurse Allie come and help me. She took off her gown and that's when everything got worse. Meredith got out of bed and walked on her cast into the bathroom and locked the door on us. She won't let us in."
"She walked on her broken leg??!!" Bailey sighed. Bailey walked over to the bathroom door and knocked on it. "Mer, can you open the door for me please? It's Dr Bailey."
"No!" Meredith wailed.
"Grey, please open the door."
"No! Don't want to be hurt! Don't want anyone to touch me! I want Cristina!"
"How about this, if you open the door and we get you back to your bed I will page Cristina for you." Bailey says, trying to compromise with her terrified intern.
Meredith thinks for a moment.
"Okay." She whispers.
Bailey sighs in relief. "Can you open the door for me please? Or at least just unlock it and I can open it."
Meredith sniffles and unlocks the bathroom door.
Bailey lets out a sigh of relief and slowly opens the bathroom door. She sees Meredith sitting on the floor with tears streaming down her face still.
"Hi sweetie. Can we get you back to your bed please?" Bailey says softly.
Meredith looks up at Bailey. "I can't walk back. My leg hurts."
"And you shouldn't walk back. You shouldn't be walking on your cast Mer. You know better." Bailey says sternly.
Meredith hangs her head in shame, feeling guilty. "I won't do it again. I promise. Please don't hit me!"
"Meredith. Look at me."
Meredith slowly looks up at Bailey.
"I would never hurt you Meredith. None of us ever will. Finn was just an evil man who should never have done any of what he did to you." Bailey tells her. "Now, let's get you back to your bed." Bailey helps Meredith off of the ground and her and a nurse help Meredith back to her bed.
"Dr Bailey, do you want us to do the sponge bath now?" The nurse asks.
Meredith's eyes go wide in fear.
"No, I've got it. Thank you both. You both can go. I've got it from here." Bailey says.
The two nurses leave the room.
"Okay. Let's page Cristina now." Bailey pages Cristina who comes just a few minutes later.
"Hi, what's going on here?" Cristina asks, seeing Meredith's tear stained face and her just in her bra and underwear, her hospital gown now on the chair next to the bed.
"Meredith got very upset with the nurses who wanted to give her a sponge bath and hid in the bathroom. I just got her out but she wanted you." Bailey explained.
"Aww Mer, it's okay. They wouldn't have hurt you. You are safe here." Cristina says trying to comfort her person.
"Now, Meredith, you still do need a sponge bath. We can't have you showering yet. You're still too unstable. Would you let Cristina or myself give you a sponge bath?" Bailey asks.
"No sponge bath." Meredith whispers.
"Mer, that's not an option. Me or Bailey." Cristina says.
"Cristina." Meredith whispered, her voice shaking.
"Don't worry Mer. You are 100% safe. No one will ever hurt you again." Cristina says. "They would have to go through me first."
Cristina gets the sponge bath items ready and once she has Meredith's reluctant permission she starts to give her a sponge bath.
Cristina helps Meredith back into her hospital gown once she finishes bathing her.
A few hours later, Addison comes to see Meredith.
"Hi Mer, I've missed you so much." Addison says softly to Meredith.
"Hi." Meredith whispers back.
"I've heard you've had a tough day."
"It's fine." Meredith says softly.
"We should do something fun once you're discharged from the hospital."Addie says to her friend.
"Probably won't be for a while." Meredith says. "Don't want to go to Joe's." Meredith starts tearing up thinking of what happened that day.
Addison notices and quickly jumps in to get Meredith's mind off of that.
"Maybe we can get some ice cream when you get discharged. You, me, Cristina, Amelia, Derek, and Mark. What do you think about that?"
"Strawberry ice cream." Meredith whispers. "I want to get strawberry ice cream when we go."
"I think we can make that happen." Addison says smiling. "Now, I just want to do a follow up ultrasound on you. I want to make sure your uterus is clean after the ultrasound. I want to make sure we got everything that was making you sick."
"Okay."
Addison starts doing the ultrasound on Meredith and is happy to see that her ultrasound is clean.
"Addie?"
"Yeah Mer?"
"D-Do you know what I would have had if I didn't miscarry?" Meredith says, unable to look Addie in the eyes.
Addison shakes her head no. "I wasn't able to tell Mer. You weren't very far into your pregnancy for me to be able to tell."
"Okay."
"You okay Mer?"
"I'm fine."
