Bailey comes into Meredith's hospital room pushing a cart of medical supplies. Bailey sees that Meredith is sound asleep. She sighs knowing this won't be an easy task.
Meredith is still not eating like she's supposed to. She is still only eating a tiny bit of food out of one meal. Whenever anyone tries to get her to eat more she just says that's all she's allowed to eat. That's all Finn will let her eat.
So because of this, Meredith has lost more weight and is even more underweight now. Bailey decided enough is enough and said Meredith is getting a feeding tube and will get food that way while slowly working back up to eating normally.
Bailey walks over to Meredith sleeping in bed. Just seeing Meredith's extremely short hair makes Bailey want to cry. She can't wait until it grows out and looks like Meredith's hair again.
"Meredith?" Bailey says softly, gently shaking the sleeping girl. "Wake up for me sweetie."
"Nooo." Meredith groans.
"Mer, I need you to wake up." Bailey said. She sees Amelia walking past the room and looking inside at Meredith sleeping. She figures Amelia will be a good help. "Dr Shepherd! Come here please." Bailey calls out.
Amelia comes into the room and smiles at a still sleeping Meredith. "What do you need Dr Bailey?" She asks.
"First I need Meredith to wake up but after that I need to insert a feeding tube in her. She's losing too much weight even after we've gotten her back." Bailey explains.
Amelia nods. She gently rubs Meredith's shoulder. "Mer, wake up for me."
"Amy?" Meredith says sleepily.
"That's right. It's Amy. Can you wake up please?"
Meredith slowly opens up her eyes and smiles sleepily at Amelia. This is the first time she's seen Amelia since she's been rescued.
"Amelia!" Meredith cries out happily.
"Hey sweetie, it's so good to see you!" Amelia gives Meredith a big hug.
Bailey is moving stuff around on the cart, getting everything ready. Meredith notices and looks scared.
"Amy? What's that?" She asks fearfully.
"Mer, we need to put a feeding tube in you. You're still losing weight, even though you've been rescued. We can't have your weight slipping any more. Your weight is dangerously low." Amelia tells her.
"I can't help it! Finn says I'm not allowed to eat much. And he would only give me teeny tiny meals so I'm not used to eating the meals here. I'm trying!" Meredith says, starting to cry.
"We know Mer. This will help you. We'll still have you trying to eat your meals while you have the tube feeding at the same time. This way you won't lose any more weight and it'll help you to get the needed weight gain." Bailey says comforting her intern. "Do you understand Mer? We need to insert a feeding tube into you now."
"Don't want feeding tube! It'll hurt!" Meredith sobs.
"It'll be okay!" Amelia says to Meredith, "I'll be right here."
"Amy" Meredith started whimpering but was hesitant
"Remember when you and I fell off that bike and you hurt your elbow? Derek carried you home and mom took care of you before she brought you to the hospital" Amelia softly smiled, trying to make Meredith open im
"I miss her. I want your mom" Meredith said as her eyes grew wide
"She booked a flight as soon as she heard you were found. She's on her way Mer"
"She- Really?" Meredith looked away from Amelia "I- I wanna see her" Meredith started sobbing but got startled when Amelia moved a bit "Don't hurt me!" Meredith cried out
"I won't hurt you. I won't hurt you." Amelia softly whispered
"Amelia, we really need to insert the feeding tube" Bailey quiet like said
Amelia nodded and turned softly back to Meredith
"Mer, we really need to give you the feeding tube. Can Dr Bailey and I do it?
"I want your mom. I want Carolyn" Meredith whimpered "I wanna get away! I wanna go home! I want things to be like before. Like when we were young, please" Meredith begged as she was desperate. "I want Carolyn! I want Carolyn! I want Carolyn!"
"Shhhh, you're okay Mer! She's going to be here soon." Amelia looks at Bailey. "Bailey I think we need to wait for my Mom. I don't think she'll cooperate without her." Amelia looked down at Meredith in her arms who was sobbing for Carolyn.
Bailey sighs. "When will she be here?"
Amelia looked at her watch. "Actually she should be here very soon. Her plane landed 30 minutes ago. My guess is she'll be here within the next ten minutes or so."
"Okay. Since she'll be here soon we can wait until she gets here." Bailey looked at her traumatized intern and felt so bad for her. She hates how Meredith freaks out over everything and that she thinks everyone is out to hurt her.
Amelia kept comforting Meredith over the next ten minutes. Amelia got a page saying her mom is in the lobby.
"Mer, mom is here. I'll be right back." Amelia says starting to stand up but Meredith grabs her arm not letting her go.
"No! Don't leave me!" Meredith sobbed.
"Mer, mom doesn't know where your room is. I'm going to get her and bring her right back here. I won't be gone long I promise."
"No! Don't leave! You can't leave me!" Meredith refuses to let go of Amelia. Amelia feels Meredith shaking in her arms.
"Mer, you're okay!" Amelia looks at Bailey. "Would you mind bringing my mom here? She won't let me leave her."
Bailey nods. "I'll be right back."
"Mer, Dr Bailey went to go get mom. She'll be here in a few minutes."
"Carolyn's here?" Meredith says, still crying in Amelia's arms.
"She is!"
A few minutes later Bailey leads Carolyn down the hallway towards Meredith's room. "She's extremely traumatized Carolyn. I'm just warning you. She's terrified everyone is going to hurt her. She's not in good shape. I need your help also. She won't let us put in a feeding tube but she needs one desperately."
"I can help with that. My poor girl. I've missed her so much. I can't believe everything she's gone through." Carolyn says, shaking her head in disbelief.
They get to Meredith's room and Bailey opens the door which immediately made Meredith shriek in fear.
"Don't hurt me! Please!" Meredith sobbed into Amelia's chest. She instantly had burried her head into Amelia's chest when the door started to open.
"Mer! It's mom! Look!" Amelia said, trying to get Meredith to look up.
"Oh honey, I've missed you so much!" Carolyn sweetly said to Meredith. Carolyn was terrified at how much Meredith had changed in both her personality and her physical features. Carolyn was shocked to see how tiny Meredith is now and how short her hair is.
"Carolyn?" Meredith asked, slowly raising her head.
"It's me baby! I'm so happy to see you." Carolyn has tears coming down her face. She's so relieved to see Meredith alive. She was so scared when Meredith was missing
Meredith sat up still crying and held her arms out to Carolyn.
Amelia knew Meredith wants to see Carolyn so she got off of Meredith's bed, allowing Carolyn to lie down with Meredith.
Carolyn gathered Meredith into a hug and held her close. "Sweetie, you're okay! I've got you! Let it out baby. Nobody will ever hurt you again. Remember when you broke your elbow when you were young? I didn't let you down back then and I won't now. I'll take care of you."
Meredith just holds onto Carolyn and slowly calms down. "Amy said that earlier." She whispered. "I missed you so much."
"I missed you also Meredith! I was so relieved when they found you."
"Ahem." Bailey clears her throat and looks at Carolyn.
"Mer, Dr Bailey needs to get the feeding tube in you now."
Meredith instantly bursts out into tears and holds onto Carolyn even tighter. "No!!!!! Don't hurt me! I don't want that!"
"Mer, no one is going to hurt you. This is to help you." Carolyn whispers into Meredith's ear.
"No! Don't want it! No! No! No!" Meredith wails.
In that moment Carolyn can see how deeply traumatized Meredith is. She's never seen Meredith act this way. Meredith always holds everything in and says she's fine. This reaction is what Dr Bailey was warning her about. She was told this is what Meredith is always like, always terrified.
"Mer, Shh. It's okay. I'm going to be right here. Let Dr Bailey do this. I promise you she won't hurt you."
After a little while Meredith lets Dr Bailey insert the feeding tube. Carolyn sits up against the pillows on the bed and holds her so that she's sitting up for the procedure and Meredith cries in her arms the entire time. Meredith shakes in fear in Carolyn's arms.
"All done!" Carolyn whispered to Meredith. "You did such a good job! I'm so proud of you."
Meredith just shakes her head No and buries her head into Carolyn's chest. Carolyn feels the girl shaking in her arms. Carolyn lays down all the way in the bed with Meredith in her arms. "Shhh, it's okay. Rest baby girl. Close your eyes." Carolyn is stroking Meredith's hair to try and comfort her.
Meredith soon cries herself to sleep, whispering "Don't leave me Carolyn."
"I'm not going anywhere. Sleep Meredith." Carolyn says.
