Achieving Goals-Chapter 14

Logan turned his phone back on after he and Rory talked about The Sun being a part of HPG. Mr. Coswell called to tell Rory they would run her article on Tony Blair. Logan's first call was to Mitchum.

"Hey, Dad….. I'm sorry, I saw it on the news…. Yes, I didn't know anything about it. I came home from work and couldn't find her. I turned on the TV and there she was…. that is right….. Samuel Coswell… Richard Gilmore and his mother… How could he? Coswell didn't know about our relationship….. yes sir. I pulled it up and read it….. Me too….. I will talk with her, but I will let you make the final offer. Or better yet, Coswell….. Yeah, me too. Okay. Bye."

That was not as bad as he thought it would be. Rory was still on the phone. He wasn't sure who she was on the phone with. Could be Lorelai or Chris or even Gigi.

Logan took Rory out for a celebratory dinner. They enjoyed themselves but limited the alcohol. Logan had to be at the office early, and he had to be sharp. Rory did not get the reading done that she needed to do yesterday. This put her behind. Well, not really, but she was behind according to the schedule she had for herself.

Logan left Rory awake, but still laying in bed. They have tentative plans for lunch. When he entered the executive floor, he went straight to his office. He met his assistant yesterday. Jon. He was about Logan's age, maybe a little younger. He was taking night classes.

Jon met him at his office door. He followed Logan in to go over his calendar for the day. Along with working on the tech project, his dad had scheduled meetings for him to attend. Logan put his stuff away.

"Jon, if you don't mind, give me a few minutes. I need a cup of coffee. I will be right back." Logon told Jon as he headed out of his office to the coffee room on this floor. Rory made a pot of coffee this morning, but he wasn't sure his stomach could handle coffee that strong today. He entered the coffee room. It had a Keurig, along with several kinds of coffee. Logan likes that. He fixed him a cup of coffee and grabbed a muffin that was sitting on the counter. He was on his way out the door when someone rounded the corner and bumped into him. This causes him to spill coffee down the front of his white dress shirt. The man didn't stop. He continued into the coffee room to make himself a cup of coffee.

When he got it started, he turned around to see Logan still standing in the doorway.

"Hey, Mate. Sorry about that. Got little sleep last night. Got to get the go-juice in me." He said. He looked Logan over. "Sorry about the spill. I'm sure you have another shirt in your office. We all do." He said, then turned back to the coffeemaker.

Logan turned to go back to his office. 'Sure you have a shirt in your office.' no, I don't, but maybe it is a good idea to keep one. Logan was still in deep thought when he got to Jon's desk.

"What happened?" Jon asked. Logan looked at him.

"I have always hated white shirts. I decided to stain this one. See if the fashion will catch on." Logan told him as he entered his office. Jon was following behind. He was trying not to laugh at him. "Guy that did this to me told me he was sure I had a spare shirt in my office. Jon, I think I should keep a clean shirt here. Looks like I might need it." Logan told him.

"Your dad has some shirts in his office. I am sure they are a little big on you. Your first appointment is not until 10:00. I could go buy you a new shirt." Jon offered. Logan was busy trying to wipe off the coffee from the front of his shirt. He took it off. He had a white tee shirt under it. The tee shirt was hardly wet or stained.

"It's fine Jon. My girlfriend was coming to lunch. I will just tell her to come early and bring me another shirt." He told him, shaking his head. He still could not get over the way the guy had just dismissed the fact that he bumped into Logan and spilled coffee all over him.

"Hey, Ace,... Yeah, I had an accident at work….haha, hilarious. I need you to bring me a white dress shirt, please. Yes… I will probably not be in my office, so just give it to Jon, my assistant. His desk is right outside my office… Okay, you remember how to get here?... Yeah…. I need it before my 10:00 meeting.. Thanks, you are the best. I love you."

"I guess you heard. She will be here shortly. If you don't mind, just call me. She can wait in my office for me." Logan told Jon. "I am headed to the small conference room to meet with the project manager, Lizzy, Ina, and Ted. I did a little research last night. I have a few ideas. Call me if you need anything. Thanks, Jon." Logan told him as he left, going to meet with the project crew.

Logan again stopped by the coffee room to get another cup of coffee. While he was fixing his coffee, he had an idea. He would get him a Keurig to go in his office. Then he wouldn't have to go to the coffee room and be subject to spills.

When he got there, he was greeted by Lizzy and Ted. Ina nor Geoffrey were there yet.

"'Casual Tuesday' Is that a thing in the States?" Lizzy asked. Logan looked at her, then remembered he had on a tee-shirt.

"Had a run-in with a cup of coffee. My girlfriend is bringing me another shirt." He told her. "I will only be with you for a couple of hours. I have a meeting scheduled for 10:00. My dad seems to think I can put 100% into this project while still taking investor meetings." Logan had spent a good bit of time with the three of them yesterday. He was fairly comfortable with them. They were not always kissing his ass, but they seemed to agree with him a lot.

"I had an idea last night. I did a little research. Here, look at this and tell me what you think." He slid the folder across the table to them. Lizzy picked it up and Ted looked over her shoulder. Logan had shut the door when he came into the room. He was taking a sip of his coffee while they were looking over his research.

The door flew open, and in walked, Logan guessed, Geoffrey. This was the man that had run into him and spilled coffee all over his shirt. Logan looked up. Geoffrey never looked at him. He walked to Lizzy and took the folder from her.

"Let's see what we have here." He said. He plopped down in the chair at the head of the table. Logan was just watching. "Hey, this is pretty good. Who came up with this?" He asked. Looking for the first time at everyone at the table.

Logan didn't say anything. Lizzy spoke up and told him it was Logan's work. Geoffrey turned to Logan, stood up, and reached out to shake his hand.

"Hey, the boss man will not like you in a tee shirt. You should always keep an extra shirt in your office." Geoffrey told him. Logan stood up and smiled at him. He shook his hand.

"I'm Logan. My girlfriend will be here shortly with a fresh shirt." Logan told him. He deliberately left out his last name. He looked at Lizzy and Ted as if to say, don't tell him.

"Well, Logan, this is pretty good stuff here. You came up with this on your own?" He asked. Logan nodded his head. He felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He took it out to see a text from Rory that she was in the building. He then sent a text to Jon to just send her to the conference room. He put his phone back in his pocket.

"Now that we have got the texting out of the way, can we start?" Geoffrey asked.

"We have been here, ready to work for a while now. So let's go." Logan told him. Geoffrey just nodded. He was trying to size Logan up.

They were going over the schematics on the big screen when there was a knock on the door. Before Logan could get up, Lizzy was closest to the door. She went to open it. Rory and Jon were standing there with a fresh shirt. Logan stood up. The conference room they were using for the tech project was on a different floor. Jon showed Rory where to go.

"If you will excuse me, I will be right back. I need to change shirts." Logan was almost at the door that Rory was standing in, when Geoffrey passed Logan, again bumping into him.

"I'll take this. We are on a deadline. He can change later." Geoffrey took the shirt from Rory. "Get along. He will call you later." He shut the door, then turned around and hung the shirt on the coat rack in the corner and went back to talking them through the layout. Logan just stood there. He was not sure what to think. He saw Rory walk back toward his office. He sat back down and listened to what he was saying. Logan was used to people kissing his ass. He wanted to be treated like a normal employee. If this is how normal employees are treated, he needed to talk with HR.

When it was getting close to 10:00, Jon knocked on the door. Lizzy again answered. Geoffrey again was annoyed that he had been interrupted yet again.

"Your 10:00 will be here shortly." He told Logan. Logan nodded at Jon. He stepped away and shut the door. Logan stood up.

"Lady, and Gentlemen, if you will have to excuse me, I have a 10:00 meeting. I will return as soon as I can." Logan told them. He grabbed his shirt off the coat rack and was out the door, shutting it when he heard Geoffrey ask Lizzy, 'who he thought he was?' He didn't hear her answer. He had already shut the door. But he could guess.
