Achieving Goals-Chapter 16

Logan was already in the office Friday morning. He was early. Their guests were arriving today. He wanted to get as much done as he could before their guest arrived. Rory didn't come to bed until late last night. After they got home, she told Logan she wanted to get the article finished for the travel section before everyone arrived. He went to bed alone. She woke up alone. Neither of them liked that but knew that this is something that they will have to accept, as long as it is not every night.

Rory had just finished eating a sandwich when Logan called. When she answered the phone she could tell he was irritated. Maybe that was not the word, but she could tell something was wrong.

"Ace, you will not believe this." He told her. She put the phone on speaker. She was cleaning up the kitchen from where she made her sandwich.

"Logan, go ahead. Tell me what I will not believe." She told him.

"Well, I don't know how to tell you this, so I am going to just blurt it out." He told her. She decided she should sit down. She took a seat on the stool at the bar.

"I am sitting, babe, just tell me." She said,

"Our number of guests has increased, as well as the length of time they are staying," Logan told her. She braced herself. "The guys are coming with the girls." He told her.

"Okay, that is not too bad. Now tell me how long they are staying." She told him.

"I'm not finished with who is coming," Logan said. She signed. This could not be good. "Your grandparents are coming." He didn't pause. He had to get the last part out before he chickened out. "My parents are also coming."

"Ace?" Logan said. She had not said anything since he told her. "Rory?" She still was not answering. He was getting worried. Maybe he needed to go home. He got up. "Rory." This time, he yelled.

"How long have you known?" She asked. He didn't answer immediately. "Logan?"

"Well, I have known about Dad coming since Tuesday, but that would not affect you. He would be tied up with business." He told her. She interrupted.

"Logan, I am not stupid, and you know that. If Mitchum is in town, you know you will be in meetings. These meetings will affect me." She told him.

"I know," He said quietly, "But I didn't know about the others until Jon informed me that the housekeeper for the Huntzburger Estate in London called to get a correct number of guests. I called Honor. She could not believe that Lorelai had not called. It seems your parents are getting married while they are here. The wedding is scheduled for next Friday at your grandpa's estate. The one that Trix left him." Logan told her.

Wow, this could not be happening. Why would her mother not call and tell her? Why would they want to keep this a secret? That was stupid. That is all she could think to say. She said it several times before Logan finally got her attention.

"I will be home in 30 minutes." He told her. "I am leaving now." Logan was grabbing his suit jacket and headed out the door. He stopped at Jon's desk and told him he would be out of the office for the rest of the day.

"Ace, I am entering the elevator. Let me hang up. I will be there soon". He hung up the phone. When he entered the elevator, he was glad he was alone. Well, he almost made it, but the doors opened up before they could completely close. Logan signed. This was all he needed.

"Well, well, look here, the wonder boy," Geoffry told him as he pushed the button again for the garage. "Leaving early on Friday. Must be nice to be the figurehead of a company and not expected to contribute." Logan did not even look over at him. This man was just mean. He didn't have time to worry about him. But Logan's silence only fueled Geoffry's nastiness.

When they got to the 13th floor, Logan had all he could take. He pushed the button to open the door. When he got off the elevator, he turned to Geoffry. The door closed before he had time to say anything. He walked to the other elevator and pushed the button. He was mumbling to himself.

"What did I do to him? I can't help it. I was born a Huntzburger. It is none of his business where I am going, or when I go, but it is my business what he does and when he leaves. How can he say something to me about leaving early? He is leaving early, too." Logan was still mumbling when he got off the elevator.

He felt better. Although Geoffrey didn't hear any of it. It made him feel better to say it.

When he got home, Rory was pacing the living room. She had been on the phone trying to get in touch with her mother, but she was not answering. Neither were Honor nor Steph, that just means they are already in the air.

"Ace," Logan said when he entered the apartment. She stopped pacing.

"They are on their way. I can't get anyone to answer the phone." She told him. He nodded.

"I called the airport while in the car. They left earlier." He was standing there holding her. She sighed.

"Who is staying here and who is staying at my grandpa's?" She asked. "I am sure your dad and Honor will stay at the Huntzburger Estate." She told him. He nodded.

"I think I should stay with my mother and grandparents this week so I can run interference between Mom and Grandma." She told him. He stepped back to look at her.

"You are leaving me?" He asked. The look on his face was beyond funny, but she was trying to keep a straight face. The next thing she was going to say had to be done with a straight face.

"I thought it would be a good idea. You can go spend the week at the Huntzburger Estate." She said, Then she burst out laughing. Logan smiled. He was not sure if he was laughing at his expense or she was kidding.

"Logan, I am going to stay with my mom, but you are welcome to come stay with us. My suite at Trix's is big enough for both of us." She told Logan. He just fell onto the sofa. He was exhausted from this conversation.
