Achieving Goals-Chapter 17
Logan got a text from the airport. The plane would land in about 45 minutes. He asked Rory if she wanted to go meet the group. She agreed. They both agreed to get them settled, then come back and pack a bag. They could make plans for the week, based on what Lorelai and Chris had planned.
When they arrived at the private airstrip, they waited. They were in one car, an SUV with third-row seating. Two more pulled up. They had room for 19 if they pushed it. Rory was counting to see how many people would be on the plane. She counted 12. That would leave plenty of room for luggage.
Logan and Rory watched as the plane landed. They had to wait for customs to board the plane before everyone disembarked. Honor and Steph were the first out. Logan and Rory were standing by the cars, waiting. Steph hugged Rory and Honor hugged Logan.
"I'm sorry," Honor whispered to Logan. Logan stepped back so that he could look Honor in the eye.
"What are you sorry about?" Logan asked. He was afraid he already knew. Before she could answer, the rest of the plane disembarked. At the top of the steps stood his mother. "Honor!" Logan yelled.
"I didn't know, I promise. I didn't know until she showed up. We were ready to leave. She showed up before they closed the doors. She and Dad have fussed the entire flight. It was so bad that Emily offered me a sleeping pill to put in Mom's drink." Honor told him. He just shook his head.
He looked at Rory. She was being greeted by her family. Gigi was standing next to her, talking a mile a minute. She had not seen him yet. Grammy Fran was hugging her neck. She could hear her telling Rory something, but he could not hear what it was.
They loaded up the cars according to who was staying where. Honor, Josh, Mitchum, and Shira were staying at the Huntzburger Estate. Chris, Lorelai, Gigi, Grammy Fran, Richard, and Emily would stay at the Gilmore Estate. Finn, Steph, and Colin decided to stay with Logan and Rory. Rory agreed. She would just have to travel back and forth to the Gilmore Estate to help with the wedding.
While they were loading up, Mitchum pulled Logan aside.
"Son, I am sorry. I didn't know she was coming. Matter of fact, I didn't know she knew about the trip." He told him.
"Have you filed for divorce?" Logan asked. Mitchum nodded.
"We have to go before the judge to make it final. She is contesting it. The prenup is ironclad, but she is still fighting it." Mitchum told him. He stepped away when he saw his mom headed toward him.
"Mom, didn't know you would visit this trip," Logan told her. Shira stepped up, Logan kissed her on the cheek. Rory was watching. Logan was pleading with his eyes for her to rescue him.
"Logan," Rory said as she stepped closer, "I need your help….Oh, Shira, didn't see you there. Did I know you would be joining us?" Rory said politely. Grammy Fran and Grandma Emily were watching. They both stepped closer. They smiled when they heard Rory. She could handle herself.
"No, I thought I would surprise my son," Shira said. She had a smile on her face. Well, Rory thinks it was a smile. With all the Botox, who could tell?
"Well, in that case, Welcome," Rory told her. She then turned to Logan. "Babe, could you help me for just a minute?" She asked, pulling toward Colin, Finn, and Steph.
"Thank you," Logan said as they walked away. He kissed her on the cheek. "I owe you."
"Yes, you do. I will collect at some point, I am sure," she told him as they got closer to her mom.
They decided to all meet at the Huntzburger Estate for supper. That way, they could make plans for shopping.
When Logan and Rory got back to the apartment with Finn, Steph, and Colin, Rory was exhausted. They still had to get ready for the dinner party tonight at the Huntzburger Estate.
Steph was telling about Shira, impromptu arrival at the plane.
"When I was already in my seat and was buckled up. They were about to close the door when she showed up. At first, Mitchum told her to get off the plane." Steph said, "But then he remembered everyone else that was on the plane and just sat down. I don't think he knew what to say or do."
"Honor told us that he had filed for divorce, which made a lot of sense. It explained his initial reaction." Colin said.
"I was a little worried. He sat there with his drink in his hand. He was not drinking it. That concerned me, but his face was getting redder and redder." Finn told them.
"We were about halfway when Mitchum stood up and pulled Shira to the back of the plane. I was worried that he was going to throw her out." Colin said. "I was trying not to look. I didn't want to be called as a witness. I didn't want to testify in court." This got the gang laughing.
Rory and Logan talked about Chris and Lorelai's wedding. They talked about the fact that Lorelai didn't call her. This upset Rory. It was as if she didn't want her to be a part of the wedding. Logan told her that was ridiculous. Lorelai would not exclude her in the wedding planning. She was just probably trying to get everything together and forgot. Rory was not too sure about that.
When the gang arrived at the Huntzburger Estate, the Gilmores and Haydens were already there. When they got inside, Logan showed Rory around the Estate while everyone else was enjoying pre-dinner drinks. Logan wanted to get Rory away from the crowd. He hoped Lorelai would come looking for them so she could explain about the wedding. He didn't want a showdown at the dinner table. It wasn't long before they returned.
Lorelai and Chris asked to speak with Rory for a few minutes. Logan was relieved. He stayed close by.
"Hey, kid, I am so sorry you found out about the wedding. I wanted to tell you myself." Lorelai told her.
"Then why didn't you?" Rory asked. She was standing there with her arms crossed. Logan eased closer.
"Because we wanted to tell you in person." Lorelai told her. Before she could reply, Chris jumped in.
"We have other news, too." He told her. Rory's eyes got big. Lorelai was smiling and nodding her head.
"Congratulations." Rory told her as she hugged their necks. "Have neither of you heard of birth control?" The four of them were laughing. Rory was still hurt that her mom didn't call her, but she was happy for her parents and Gigi.
The rest of the night went well. You could tell that Mitchum wanted to kill Shira, but Grammy Fran and Emily were running interference as much as possible. Logan was trying his best to stay out of it.
