Achieving Goals-Chapter 23

Christopher and Lorelai didn't leave for their honeymoon until Saturday morning. They stayed at the Gilmore Estate and had brunch with the family before leaving.

Monday morning, Logan was leaving for work when Gigi came walking into the kitchen. He fixed her a bowl of cereal and milk. He sat with her until she was finished. Opal joined them before Logan left. On his way to work, he kept thinking, this is the life I wanted. Maybe he needed to go ahead and propose, but make sure the families know that the engagement will be long. He shakes his head. He will talk to Rory about it.

Logan hadn't been in his office long when he got a call from Samuel Coswell.

"Mr. Coswell," Logan said, answering the phone. "What can I do for you today?" Logan listens as Mr. Coswell asked to meet with him and Rory for dinner at La Quille. He further explained that his wife would join them, but he wanted a moment to speak with Rory privately.

"I will call her now and see if she can fit it into our schedule. Her little sister is staying with us while her parents are on their honeymoon." Logan told him. "But don't worry, she can stay with the nanny." They talked for a few more minutes. Mr. Coswell told him to bring the little child with them. It has been ages since he has seen his grandkids and he is sure his wife would love to see her too. Logan told him he would call him back after he checks with Rory.

Before Logan could call Rory back, Mitchum stepped in the office. Logan looked up when he heard Mitchum talking with Jon.

"Dad, I thought you were leaving today." Logan said. Mitchum nodded his head.

"Yes, son, I will be out of your hair by lunch." Mitchum told him. "I just wanted to stop by, see if there is anything I can help you with. I understand Geoffrey chose to turn the project over to Ian."

"Yes," Logan said. "Ian stopped by Friday morning to tell me that Geoffrey is taking a leave of absence. He and his wife are going to spend some time on the west coast visiting his grandchildren." Logan was shaking his head..

"Dad, I did not have a problem working with him. He was good at what he did, but he was rude and mistreated the people that answered to him." Logan told him. "But I think I may have just stepped into a problem." Mitchum sat down in one of the club chairs in front of Logan's desk.

"Samuel Coswell just called to invite Rory and me to dinner tonight at La Quille." Logan told him. Mitchum smiled at him. "He wants to speak with Rory privately at some point tonight." Mitchum was chuckling.

"Let me guess. He wants to ask her to write for the Sun while she is in London?" Mitchum said. Logan nodded his head.

"Yeah, that is what I figured." Logan told him.

"Let me guess the problem. Rory will not be happy that Samuel went through you and not directly to her?" Mitchum guessed. Logan nodded.

"Well, all I can say is she will get a lot of experience working for the Sun this summer. Don't let her turn this down just because Samuel has not caught up with the way things are done today. He is from the old school of thinking." Mitchum told him.

"Well, I was just going to call her. He told us to bring Gigi along when I told him she could stay with the nanny. He said his wife would enjoy spending time with the little one." Logan told him. Mitchum stood up to leave.

"Son, call me tomorrow. I want to know how the dinner goes." Mitchum said as he left the office laughing. Logan was shaking his head.

Monday morning, after Logan left for work, Rory was settled in Logan's office. She was taking a class online while zooming with some of her future classmates. Opal and Gigi were at the park.

Rory had finished her schoolwork and was fixing them a sandwich when Logan called. She was expecting Opal and Gigi back any minute. She placed the phone on the counter and put it on speaker.

"Hey, babe, what's up? Calling to tell me you are going to be late tonight?" She asked, laughing.

"No, I am calling to see if you could meet me for dinner tonight at La Quille?" Before she could answer. "Mr. Coswell called and asked us to meet him and his wife," Logan told her.

"Sure, but if he wants to talk to me about writing for him, I wish he would call me and not you," Rory told him.

"I know, babe. You can explain that to him tonight." He told her. "What have you been doing today? Did you get to zoom with your classmates? " Logan asked.

"Yes, for a while, then I was interrupted by my parents. They called to check on Gigi." She told him.

"What is Gigi doing? Is she staying out of your hair? Mr. Coswell told me to bring her tonight. His wife would enjoy spending time with her." Logan told her.

"I don't know if that is a good idea or not." Rory said.

"How are your parents? Having fun?" Logan said with a chuckle.

"Eww," Rory said. "I don't want to think about that. They said they missed us and wants Gigi to call them when she gets home."

Rory and Gigi were almost ready when Logan got home. He hurried to change out of his suit into a pair of khaki pants and a dress shirt.

"I figured you would just send the car for us." Rory said.

"No," Logan said from the closet. "I wanted to change and see if you needed any help with Gigi."

"Opal is helping Gigi get ready. I talked to her, told her to be on her best behavior and we would take her to the zoo on Saturday." Rory told him. "That will work? Right? You don't have to work Saturday, do you?" Rory asked. Logan told her no. He would figure a way to make it work.
