Achieving Goals-Chapter 27
Lorelai and Chris were filling in the areas that Gigi left off after telling about her adventures. Rory excuses herself to go splash water on her face. Her headache was getting worse. When she did not return, Logan excused himself to go find her.
He found her sitting on a bench in the hallway with her head in her hands.
"Ace?" Logan said, causing Rory to jump. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked. She nodded her head. He helped her back to the sitting room as everyone was moving to the dining room.
"Rory, sweetheart, are you okay?" Grammy Fran asked. Rory nodded. No one else seemed to notice.
"She has a headache," Logan told her. He had his hand on the small of her back.
"I have migraine medicine in my purse. Let me get it for you." Grammy Fran told them as she headed toward the coat closet that held the coats and pursed. Logan and Rory continued into the dining room.
Grammy Fran handed Rory the meds as she took her seat. This is the first time Lorelai noticed something was wrong. She looked at Rory questionably.
"I have a headache," Rory told her. Lorelai nodded.
Rory ate little. She just wanted to go home so she could lie down. Dinner was almost over. They were finishing dessert when Rory and Logan felt Emily and Shira looking at them. They both stopped eating.
"What? Do we have food on our faces?" Rory asked. Logan was wiping his mouth with his napkin. He was afraid he knew what was going to be said.
"No, not at all," Shira said with a smile. "We were just admiring what a wonderful couple you make."
"Yes, they do. Don't you think so, Richard?" Emily asked. Everyone at the table knew what was coming next. Honor and Lorelai both tried to derail the conversation, but to no success. Emily and Shira were ready to plan parties and a wedding.
"Rory, you know it will take at least a year and a half to plan this wedding," Emily stated.
"Yes, Logan. You need to get started on a date. Then we can plan the engagement party." Shira told him as Emily and Shira both pulled out a planning calendar. Rory and Logan were both shaking their heads.
Everyone was talking at once. Richard and Mitchum were trying to tell Emily and Shira to slow down. There were things that needed to be taken care of before an announcement was made. Lorelai, Chris, and Honor were trying to tell them it was no rush. Gigi just wanted to know if she could be the flower girl like she was at Aunt Lorelai's wedding. Finally, Logan had enough. He stood up and waited. It took a few minutes, but finally, everyone went quiet.
"I have something to say." He looked down at Rory. "I am speaking for us both." Rory nodded. "Rory and I have talked about this. I guess you could say that we are engaged to be engaged. I will ask Rory to marry, but I will do it on our own time when we feel we are ready." Logan said.
"When he asks me to marry him, things will change immediately. There will be the announcement in the paper, then the engagement party, then the planning." Rory told them. "Can you try to look at it from my point of view?" Before she could continue, Emily and Shira started in again.
"Listen," Francine said as she stood up. Everyone turned to her. "Listen to what Rory and Logan are trying to tell you." She sat back down.
"I just started my graduate degree. I have just started a job that I enjoy and I am learning a lot….." She hesitated. Emily started to speak, but Francine shook her head and Emily closed her mouth.
"I love Logan. I want to be Logan's wife. But before I become Mrs. Rory Huntzburger, I want to find out who Ms. Rory Gilmore-Hayden is." Rory said. She then sat down and Logan took her hand and kissed it.
"I knew it would all come down to her wanting to work. What is wrong with being Mrs. Logan Huntzburger? I have been Mrs. Mitchum Huntzburger for over 28 years." Shira said. Honor mumbled, 'yeah, look where you are now.' Shira shot her a look. She opened her mouth, but before she could speak, Francine stood back up.
"I am not sure how many of you are aware of this, but Rory has a Trust Fund set up for her wedding. She can use that money for her wedding. If she wants a big wedding, the money is there. If she wants a small wedding, she will have a small wedding. If they decide to elope," This brought a collective gasp, "This will be a decision she and Logan make together. If they choose to include you, then they will let you know." Grammy Fran was looking around at everyone, daring them to speak. You could hear the gasps,
"She will have the wedding she wants. If that is not good enough for you, then I will help her plan it. She will have control. She and Logan. Do I make myself clear?" Francine asked. Several nods and a few yeahs. "Now. When Logan asks and Rory accepts, then they will announce. Until then, leave them alone." Francine took her seat as Rory and Logan both smiled at her.
There was nothing else said about Logan proposing or a wedding for the rest of the evening. They both knew this was not over, but at least it should give them some peace for a few weeks.
The families decided on a monthly family dinner. Logan and Rory were okay with this. They were busy, but they still wanted to keep up with their family.
When Logan and Rory returned home, they went straight to bed. Rory woke the next morning feeling good. Logan woke earlier and had the coffee brewing. She could smell the bacon cooking. She had eaten little at her grandma's last night and she was starving. They decided her headaches were stress-related. The stress of when the questions about them getting married and the pressure she was sure would come with it. Thanks to Grammy Fran, she could breathe easier.
Logan and Rory spent the rest of the weekend enjoying New York. The holidays are approaching. Rory wanted to visit Stars Hollow for Halloween. She wanted to add the experience to her blog. After Halloween, their schedules would pick up. Thanksgiving and Christmas, possibly London. It will be a hectic time. They just wanted to take this time to enjoy New York.
Sunday, Logan planned a picnic in the park. There was a string quartet playing. He packed a blanket, some wine, and cheese. They stopped by the deli and picked up a couple of sandwiches. After the concert, they rode the carousel. Not another sign of a headache at all for the rest of the weekend.
