Achieving Goals-Chapter 28
Monday morning, Logan and Rory were both up and ready for the day. Rory had a class before she meets Mark at City Hall. Mark scheduled an interview with the Mayor and several of the councilmen. He was interviewing them about the road work being done on the upper east side, but neglected in the business district. He asked Rory to meet him. He wanted her to sit in on the interviews.
Logan had meetings all day. Mitchum would be out of the office. The judge was meeting with Mitchum, Shira, and the lawyer. This divorce was taking longer than anyone wanted. Logan hoped it would be over soon.
It was after lunch when he saw Mitchum approaching his office. Logan started to gather all the folders up so that he could give him a detailed account of his meeting this morning.
"Son," Mitchum said as he knocked on the door frame. Logan nodded at him to have a seat. "How is Rory's headache? I hope the two of you took some time to enjoy the rest of the weekend." Logan's head shot up. Was Mitchum partaking in small talk?
"Yeah, picnicked in the park, listened to the string quartet set up near the carousel. Enjoyed the rest of the weekend. How about you?" Logan asked. If he can small talk, so can I, Logan thought.
"Had brunch with Honor and Josh Sunday. Enjoyed a couple of rounds of golf with some friends. Logan, don't look shocked. I have some friends. Not everyone is an investor or a client." Mitchum told him with a chuckle.
"Is it too short of notice to ask you and Rory to join me at the 'Apporytemu' tonight?" Mitchum asked. "I know the chef and he asked me to stop by tonight and try out one of his signature dishes. I know Rory enjoys a good meal. I thought it would be fun." Logan was not sure how to answer.
"I can ask Rory," Logan said, looking at his watch. "She is in a meeting right now, but as soon as she is free, I will ask her." Logan was still a little cautious.
"Good," Mitchum said as he stood up. "Just call my cell. Let me know." He turned to leave.
"Dad?" Logan asked. Mitchum turned around. "Would you like to go over the meeting I had this morning?"
Mitchum looked at Logan for a minute. He was looking at his features. This was a grown man. This was his son, and he was proud of him for stepping up and taking on responsibilities.
"Did the meeting go well?" He asked, still standing. Logan nodded. "Good. We can discuss it later, maybe tomorrow morning. I will put you on my calendar for 10:00?" Mitchum asked. Logan just nodded. He was not sure what was happening. His dad did not immediately question him about a very important meeting.
After talking with Rory, she told him she would meet them at the restaurant. She explained to Logan that she would be busy right up till 7:00. This will give her time to finish the research assigned to her.
When Rory got to the restaurant, Mitchum and Logan had already ordered drinks. She apologized for being late. She was excited. She told them about her meeting at City Hall. She told them of the research she was assigned. They talk a little business, but other than that, they discuss a couple of books that Mitchum read. Rory recommended he read the Harry Potter series. Mitchum wasn't sure about that. Logan told him he read the series and enjoyed it. He thought he should try it.
By the end of the evening, Logan and Rory were tired. They both fell asleep as soon as they got in bed.
Rory talked to her mom and reserved a room at the Inn for Halloween weekend. Honor and Josh were also reserving a room. Rory was excited to show Honor her little town.
With Mitchum and Shira divorced, Logan and Rory seem to see them more. Not together. Mitchum started coming over in the evenings. It surprised him that Logan often beat Rory home. He would watch as Logan prepare their meal. Rory would come home, change, and help him in the kitchen. As Mitchum observed the young couple, he thought back to when he and Shira first married. He could not remember ever helping her with anything. Mitchum longed for the kind of relationship that Rory and Logan had.
Shira was forever inviting them over. She finally settled on one of the apartments in Manhattan. This way, she could be close to her children. Logan and Honor thought it was funny that she chose to be a mom now.
As the holidays approached, Rory and Logan were trying to decide when to go back to London. Rory was enjoying her time at Columbia. It was different from Yale. Mitchum and Logan talked. They decided it was best he stay at the corporate office. This will make it easier for the arraignment to be made concerning London.
Mitchum offered the Huntzburger Estate if they chose to spend the Holidays in London. Rory and Logan were debating on it. She was enjoying her job at The Observer. She could explain her absence by telling them she would be going home for the holidays. She was still just an intern and in school. Exceptions were made for this sort of thing. As far as she knew, no one had guessed her affiliation with the Huntzburgers.
What Rory didn't know was one of the other interns, Amy, watched Rory get all the good stories to research. She also noticed Rory was assigned to Mark. She didn't have to deal with some of the other unpleasant reporters. She wanted to complain, but she was not sure who to complain to. Her mom's best friend worked at the HPG home office. Maybe she should talk with her. See what she should do or who she should talk to. Amy is sure Rory is screwing someone to be able to get all the good stories.
