Steve and I are finally here. At training camp, our dream has come true. Right now we are in line waiting for our commander to come.
"Recruits, attention! Gentlemen, I'm Agent Carter. I supervise all operations for this division." said the most beautiful woman I have ever seen with her medium-length brown hair, red lipstick, and dressed in her military uniform. She walks down the line with so much authority that I can't help but stare at her.
"What's with the accent, Queen Victoria? Thought I was signing up for the U.S. Army." one of the other soldiers said. I want to punch him in the face
"What's your name, soldier?" Agent Carter said in a demanding tone.
"Gilmore Hodge, your Majesty," the jackass said with a smirk on his face. "Step forward, Hodge. Put your right foot forward." He did as he was told, looking back at the other guys on the line. "Mmm… We gonna wrassle? Cause I got a few moves I know you'll like." jerkface said with a chuckle
Before he can get a full laugh out Agent Carter punched him in the face causing everyone to chuckle. I on the other hand was in a trance. Seeing her stand up to that guy like that was a huge turn on. It seems I have a thing for badass women.
"Agent Carter." an older white man getting off of a military truck says. Agent Carter turns around with an innocent look on her face. "Colonel Phillips."
"I see you're breaking in the candidates. That's good!" He told Agent Carter "Get your ass up out of that dirt and stand in that line at attention 'til somebody comes and tells you what to do." Phillips says to the idiot making him get up and fall back in line.
"General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men…" he stops and looks at me "and women And because they're gonna get better. Much better. The Strategic Scientific Reserve is an Allied effort made up of the best minds in the free world. Our goal is to create the best army in history. But every army starts with one man. At the end of this week we will choose that man. He will be the first in a new breed of super-soldiers." After Colonel Philips gives his speech we go to our bunks to unpack.
Steve and I start to unpack as the guys are messing around. While we unpack one of the guys comes up to us and grabs my suitcase. "What is a woman doing in the army? Shouldn't you be at home making dinner for your husband."
"Give me back my suitcase" I say while staring him in the eyes, not backing down. All he does is chuckle and look at his friends.
"What are you going to do? Make me?" he asks. I keep staring at him in the eyes and as he looks at me he stops laughing. I feel my eyes change and I tell him "No, I won't make you. But you will give it to me. Now!"
He throws me the suitcase and walks back to his friends. I turn around and go back to my bunk. I see Steve staring at me. "What?" I say. "What the heck was that?" Steve whisper-yells at me. "I don't know. All I did was ask for my suitcase back." I told him. He looks at me like I am crazy. "Yea you just asked the biggest jackass for your suitcase back and he gave it to you. And when you turned around your eyes were blue." He explains. "Yea right." I say not listening to him and going back to putting my stuff away. - After we were done packing we started training. We did rope climbing which Steve struggled with. We crawled in mud with barb wire over our heads and as we were doing it the same jerk from before kicked the post making the barb wire fall on me and Steve. Which really embarrassed me because I knew that Agent Carter was watching. We also did a run and once we got to the halfway mark our Sergeant told us to halt. "That flag means we're only at the halfway point. First man to bring it to me gets a ride back with Agent Carter. Move, move!" All of the other soldiers raced to get up the flagpole, they were dragging each other down and falling off of the pole. I was looking at the pole and started to think of another way to get it, once I got the idea I looked at Steve and saw that he had the same idea. Once everyone fell back in line we walked up to the pole. "Rogers, Bailey! I said fall in!" our Sergeant yelled at us. When we get to the pole Steve takes out one side of the pole and I take down another and it falls over. Then we both pick up the flag and walk over to the Sergeant and hand it to him " Thank you, sir." we say to him and get into the truck. I look back at the other soldiers and laugh at the look on their faces. I turn around and see Agent Carter looking at me with a smile on her face so I tilt my hat and wink at her, causing her to turn around with a blush on her face. Once everyone gets back to base we start doing push ups. "Faster, ladies! Come on. My grandmother has more life in her, God rest her soul. Move it!" Agent Carter says, and if I wasn't trying to impress her with my push ups I would have laughed. As we are doing push ups someone yells "Grenade!" which causes everyone to run. I run towards the grenade and jump on it to minimize the damage it causes. "Get away! Get back" I yell hoping to save as many people as possible. I sit there waiting for the inevitable but it never happens and I look up and see everyone is okay. "It was a dummy grenade. All clear. Back in formation." someone says. I look at Agent Carter who is smiling at me and ask "Is this a test?" but she doesn't say anything. - I am sitting on my bed reading a book while Steve is on his bed doing the same when we hear a knock at the door. "May I?" Erskine asks with a bottle of liquor and glasses in his hand. We say yeah and he sits at the end of my bed "Can't sleep?" he asks. "I got the jitters, I guess." Steve answers for us. Tomorrow we are going to be changed into supersoldiers and I don't know how to feel about that. It is a bog opportunity and I would be a fool to pass it up but it is also scary. A lot of things can go wrong but i know that if everything goes right then we will be key in winning the war. "Me, too." Erskine says "Can I ask you a question?" I ask him "Just one?" he says with a chuckle. "Why us?" I ask him. "I'm pretty sure that there are better qualified people than us." "I suppose that is the only question that matters." he says as he points to the bottle in his hand. "This is from Augsburg. My city. So many people forget that the first country that the Nazi's invaded was their own. You know, after the last war the… my people struggled. They… they felt weak. They felt small. And then Hitler comes along with the marching and the big show and the flags and the… and the… And he… he hears of me, my work and he finds me. And he says, "You." He says, "You will make us strong." Well, I am not interested. So he sends the head of HYDRA, his research division. A brilliant scientist by the name of Johann Schmidt. Now, Schmidt is a member of the inner circle and he's ambitious. He and Hitler share a passion for occult power and Teutonic myth. Hitler uses his fantasies to inspire his followers. But for Schmidt, it is not fantasy. For him, it is real. He has become convinced that there is a great power hidden in the earth, left here by the Gods, waiting to be seized by a superior man. So when he hears about my formula and what it can do, he cannot resist. He takes the formula himself." "Did it make him stronger?" Steve asks "Yeah. But, there were other effects. The serum was not ready. But more important, the man. The serum amplifies everything that is inside. So, good becomes great. Bad becomes worse. This is why you two were chosen. Because a strong man, who has known power all his life, will lose respect for that power. But a weak man or woman knows the value of strength, and knows compassion." "Thanks. I think." Steve says at Erskine's comment on us being weak. "Whatever happens tomorrow, you two must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good person." Erskine asks as he pors us a drink. "To the little guys." I say as we raise our glasses "No! No! Wait! Wait! What am I doing? No! You have a procedure tomorrow. No fluids." Erskine says as he stops us from drinking the alcohol. "All right. We'll drink it after." I try to reason with them. "No! I don't have a procedure tomorrow. Drink it after? Drink it now!" Erskine says as he drinks the liquor. - Here we care the day that Steve and I become SuperSoldiers. We are driving in our hometown Brooklyn with Peggy. "I know this neighborhood. I got beat up in that alley. And that parking lot. And behind that diner." Steve points out all the places that he has had a fight. I was with him for most of those. Steve never liked bullies and even though he is small he would always stand up for people who need him. "Did you have something against running away?" Peggy asked him "You start running, they'll never let you stop." Steve said with a shake of his head. "You stand up, push back. Can't say no forever, right?" I say looking at Peggy with a smile on my face. "I know a little of what that's like. To have every door shut in your face." Peggy says, relating to us. " I guess I just don't know why you'd wanna join the army if you're a beautiful dame. Or a beautiful… a woman. An agent, not a dame! You are beautiful, but…" I try to talk to her but I'm having a hard time. "You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you?" Peggy asks me with a laugh. "I do it's just hard talking to one as beautiful as you." I try to flirt with her. "Not many people around her are like me, so it's not that often that I flirt." I know it is a risky move but I decided to just go for it hoping that she knows what I am talking about. "I guess that's understandable. It's not common for people to be open about such things." She says. I don't say anything back, I just smile at her, glad she caught on to what I was saying. - We pull up to what looks like an antiques shop and go inside "Wonderful weather this morning isn't it?" the owner asks us. "Yes, but I always carry an umbrella." Peggy responds and I realize they are talking in code. The woman goes to her desk and presses a button and Peggy leads us to the lab where Dr. Erskine is waiting for us with a team of scientists and two metal pods in the center of the room. When we get into the room everyone stops what they are doing and stares at us. As we make our way downstairs everyone goes back to what they were doing and we walk up to Dr. Erskine and shook his hand. "Good morning." he says as a photographer takes Steve and I's picture. "Please, not now" he tells the man and he walks away. "Are you ready?" He asks us and we nod our heads. "Good. Take off your shirt, your tie and your hat." he says I take off my clothes and hand them to a nurse who is standing nearby. Now I am standing in the middle of the room in my bra and pants. I am not ashamed of my body, I may not be fit but I am lean and in good enough shape. I look at Steve making sure that he is sure about this and he gives me a nod so we both start to get into our pods. "Comfortable?" Erskine asks as he stands in between Steve and I's pods. "It's a little big. You save me any of that schnapps?" Since Steve is a little shorter than me I fit in the pod a little better. "Not as much as I should have. Sorry. Next time. Mr. Stark, how are your levels?" Erskine looks at Howard Stark, the man from the exhibit we went to with Bucky on his last night before he got shipped off. "Levels at 100%. We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn, but we are ready as we'll ever be." Stark says as he looks at us. "Agent Carter? Don't you think you would be more comfortable in the booth?" Erskine tells Peggy, who is standing off to the side of our pods. "Oh, yes. Of course. Sorry." She says as she walks away. I can't help but look at her as she leaves, she turns around and gives me one last encouraging smile. "Do you hear me? Is this on? Ladies and gentlemen, today we take not another step towards annihilation, but the first step on the path to peace. We begin with a series of micro injections into the subject's major muscle groups. The serum infusion will cause immediate cellular change. And then to stimulate growth, the subject will be saturated with Vita-Rays." Erskine explains to the group of people who are watching us. As he is talking to the people, nurses start to put vials into our pods. A nurse comes up to us and gives us a shot. "That wasn't so bad." Steve says. "That was penicillin. Serum infusion begins in five, four, three, two, one." The needles make their way into our arms and the liquid from the vials make their way into our bodies. It feels so painful. It feels like being stung by hundreds of bees non-stop. "Now, Mr. Stark." he tells Stark and our pods move to stand upright and starts to close. "Steven, Morgan, can you hear me?" Erskine asks as he taps on the glass of our pods. "It's probably too late to go to the bathroom, right?" I joke "We will proceed." Erskine tells Stark. Through the glass of our pod I see everyone putting on glasses and Stark starts to turn a wheel on his desk. After that a bright light flashes and I feel pain throughout my whole body, way worse than the first time. I start to get hot and I feel my body change. I also start to feel different on the inside. It's hard to explain but I sort of start to feel unstoppable and I start to sense this urge in my body that I have never felt before. I hope it's normal but I can't seem to shake it. All of a sudden the pain intensifies and I start to scream. I hear Erskine yelling our names but I can't respond. It takes me a minute to catch my breath from the pain when I hear Erskine tell Stark to cut the machine off. "No! Don't! I can do this! We can do this!" I yell. We made it this far and I do not want to turn back. I know Steve doesn't want to turn back either. They continue the machine and the pain keeps getting worse but I try not to scream so I don't worry them anymore. By the time I am able to catch my breath the pod opens. "Steven. Morgan." Erskine comes up to us with concern in his voice. "I did it." Steve says and then looks at me. "We did it." "Yeah, yeah. I think we did it." Erskine says as he checks us over. "We actually did it." Stark nods along. As I start to catch my bearing Peggy walks over to me with a look in her eyes that I never seen before. And before I can try and recognize it, it's gone. "How do you feel?" she asks. "Taller" I say. I used to stand at about 5'9 but now I feel as though I am at least 6 feet. Peggy reaches her hand out almost as if she is going to touch my abs but stops herself and grabs a shirt from the nurse and hands it to me. "You look taller." she says. As she is looking at me I get the same feeling I had got inside the pod and it makes me want her. Its like this unexplainable need that needs to be taken care of and she would be able to help me. "Why are your eyes blue? Is everything okay? Why are you looking at me like that?" She asks me. I take a step towards her but before I can get far an explosion goes off from the gallery making everyone duck down.
"Stop him!" Erskine yells before the guy, who took the last supersoldier serum from the container, shoots him.
The guy runs off while shooting and Peggy starts to shoot back and gets him one time before he makes it out of the room. I see Peggy take off after him so I go get Steve, who is with Erskine, and we take off after the guy. We get outside to see Peggy shoot the driver of the car making it crash. The other guy gets out of the car and steals a cab and drives it towards Peggy. She stands there with her gun aimed at him shooting as he drives closer. He gets too close so I decide to tackle her out of the way.
"I had him!" She yells at me. But I don't really care. All that mattered was that she was okay.
After making sure she is uninjured Steve and I chase after the car running faster than we ever have before. We see him make a turn so we go to the other street so we can see him. We are able to keep up with him until we lose control and run into a bridal shop. "Sorry" we yell as we keep chasing after the driver.
We turn down an alley and we see a fence, without stopping we jump high up in the air and over the fence. Which allows us to be right behind the taxi again. He starts to speed up so I decide to jump on top of the other cars to catch up with him faster. I get one car from him and jump on the taxi which makes him swerve the car to try and get me off.
He starts to shoot through the roof but I am able to dodge the bullets which makes me almost fall off but I catch on to the passenger side door. He tries to shoot me again but misses and crashes into another car making us flip and I end up on the ground. The man starts to run away and shoot at me and Steve so I grab the car door to shield us from the bullets.
The man grabs a child and starts to run away. Once we catch up to him he points a gun at the child's head. "Wait, don't! Don't! " Steve says, walking up to them. The man then points the gun at us and pulls the trigger but he is out of bullets. So he insteads throws the kid in the water and runs. "No! Don't!" Steve yells as we make our way to the boy.
"Go get him! I can swim!" the boy says while floating in the water.
The man starts to escape in a submarine but we jump in the water and chase him. We catch up to him and Steve punches into the glass while I grab the man out of the submarine. I throw the man on land and climb out of the water. He tries to stab me but I knee him in the face. "Who the hell are you?" I ask as I grab him by his jacket.
"The first of many. Cut off one head, two more shall take its place. Hail HYDRA!" The pops a fake tooth and starts to foam at the mouth and dies.
Me and Steve stand there looking at him not knowing what to do.
