AN: A little time jump. But don't fret. You will be able to know what happened through Rory and Logan, both thinking back on what happened.
Achieving Goals-Chapter 30
Logan and Rory landed at the private airstrip at Heathrow. A car was waiting to take them to the London apartment. After all that happened after their trip to Stars Hollow, it was decided to stay in London until the first of the year. This works for them two-fold. Logan will be half-way through his London obligation and he and Rory could get away from all the attention put on them.
"Hey, I was thinking," Logan told Rory as they were being driven to the apartment. "Come to the office with me one day this week and meet the event planner."
Rory turned to look at him. She was smiling. They were holding hands in the back of the town car. She pulled his hand to her mouth and kissed it.
"Thank you, Logan." She told him. He looked at her questioning. "This trip. I know you would rather stay in the states for the holidays." He shook his head.
"Rory, I love you," Logan told her. "As long as I get to spend the holidays with you, I don't care which side of the pond we are on."
"Set a meeting for Wednesday." She told him. She laid her head on his shoulder. It had been a long two weeks.
Monday, after her meeting with Mark, Rory stopped by the break room to get a cup of coffee. Before she could enter, she heard them talking.
"She just comes and goes as she pleases. I can't believe we didn't know about her before now." This came from a female voice that Rory later identified as Amy.
"Carol told me to mind my own business." the voice said. "That just made me more curious. Did you know that Carol used to work in the home office? I heard she was transferred because of a scandal. She was caught with the big man."
Rory decided to forgo the coffee. At least they have moved on to Carol. She was almost in her cubicle when she overheard the word 'scandal' come from one of the cubicles behind her. She shook her head. I guess the gossip about Carol is making its rounds. I wonder if I should warn her about it. Rory thought.
She worked on her part of the article about the paving project most of the morning. When it got close to lunch, she went to get coffee. This time she was in the break room when she heard them coming. They were loud and didn't care who heard them.
"Her mother got pregnant at 16. She was the scandal of high society. I remember my grandmother using her to threaten me. She didn't want me to be a scandal." Jennifer said. "I can't believe she is working here. I googled her. She is a Yale graduate. Haha. Yeah, I bet she graduated."
"I heard she screwed someone to get this job. She was up for an internship with the New York Times. When she didn't get it, she was offered this job. I wonder how high up the food chain you have to be to get screwed. I would love a permanent position." At this point, Rory could tell who was saying what.
She was standing at the coffee maker, waiting on it to finish when they burst in. They looked at her and burst out laughing. They didn't even try to hide that they were talking about her. She ran out of the breakroom without her coffee. When she thinks back on this, she still does not know how she made it through the rest of the day. But she did.
Logan found her lying across the bed in their apartment. When he went to wake her up, he could tell she had been crying. She refused to tell him what happened. She knew that would make things worse. Little did she know, telling him might have prevented two of the worst weeks of her adult life, maybe even her whole life.
Logan also was lost in thought as they were driven down the streets of London.
When Logan got to the apartment that Monday, he found Rory asleep, lying across their bed. He could tell she had been crying. He tried to get her to tell him what was going on. He could tell she didn't want to get him involved, which in his head meant it was something about the two of them.
Logan, not knowing the kind of day she had, planned to meet Steph, Colin, and Finn for dinner and drinks. Finn had been out of town for a while and was back. He called Logan earlier about everyone getting together.
He finally got her to get up and get dressed. When they left the apartment, Frank was waiting for them at the lobby entrance. Logan was not sure, but he thought he saw a flash. He shook his head. Rory was already in the car.
When they reached the restaurant, Paparazzi were everywhere. They were blinded by the flashbulbs. When they finally got to the restaurant, Finn, Colin, Stephanie, and Rosemary were waiting on them. They all had questions about what happened and why the Paparazzi was so interested in Logan.
"Have you done something stupid without us?"? Finn asked. This got Logan thinking. He knew something happened at work, but he could not get her to tell him. He thought about going to Simon. He then remembered he had a meeting with Simon on the books for this week. Maybe he would just change the location. He decided to call him dad.
Rory and Logan both were brought out of their thoughts when the door to the town car was opened. They were at the apartment in Lonon. She smiled at Logan. She is going to enjoy the holiday if it kills her.
Because of the time difference, they agreed to stay in and rest. Logan started the next leg of his London project.
