Achieving Goals-Chapter 31

Logan left Rory in bed Monday morning. He left early. He wanted to get into the office before Jon. He needed to pick his next project. He and Ian stayed in touch. He had several projects he wanted Logan to look at.

By lunch, Logan couldn't concentrate. He got up and closed his door. He called Jon and asked him not to disturb him unless it was Rory. Logan leaned back in his chair. He needed to get his head on straight. This was the best move for him and Rory. He was still trying to tell himself that. He would give anything to have protected her, but he was not superman. If he thought he could live without her, he would have let her go. He was the reason she had to endure the last two weeks. He was the reason she had to pack up and move to London for the holidays. He could still see Emily's face when they told them.

"Logan, I don't know if this is a good idea. I was thinking maybe we could just leave and send them a postcard inviting them to the Huntzburger Estate for Christmas." Rory tells Logan as Frank is helping them out of the car at the Gilmore Manor.

"Chris and Lorelai are already here. You talked with Grammy Fran. She told you she would be here to support you." Logan told her.

When they entered the Manor, the family was in the sitting room with drinks. Logan had his hand on the small of her back as they entered the room.

"Rory, Logan," Emily said. "I am glad you decided to join us." She was looking at her watch. Rory and Logan were aware they were late. Traffic had been awful, but they would have been late, anyway. Rory had procrastinated getting ready.

Logan was sure Emily knew what was coming. When he looks back on it, maybe they should have just sent them a postcard. During drinks, Emily kept steering the conversation back to the holidays. Logan couldn't tell at the time if she was just trying to get all her ducks in a row for the holidays or she was hinting at what a mistake it would be not to spend the holidays together.

Francine and Rory's parents tried to change the conversation. After a while, they just gave up. Before they could tell Emily and Richard they would be spending Thanksgiving and Christmas in London. Gigi remembered seeing Rory's picture in a paper while she was at the store with her Aunt Lorelai.

"Rory, Logan. I see'd your picture at the store." Gigi told her. Lorelai and Chris both tried to get to Gigi before she could say anything else, but they failed.

"What picture?. I haven't seen a picture. Did you Richard?" Emily asked, "Rory, did you have a byline in the Observer and didn't tell us?"

Logan, Lorelai, Chris, and Francine sat up straight. Rory just put her head in her hands and started crying. Logan tried his best to comfort her. Gigi continued to talk. She didn't know she had said anything wrong. She told them about the picture of Logan helping a drunk Rory out of a cab in front of their building. Of course, Gigi didn't tell it like that, but her explanation was childish enough that the adults were able to induce what happened.

Emily started asking questions. Lorelai was trying to calm her down. Rory excused herself to go wash her face. Lorelai followed. Logan and Chris didn't know what to tell Emily. Richard pulled up the picture on Emily's iPad.

Francine calmed Emily down until she saw the picture. When they left the Gilmore Manor, Emily was already upstairs. She had a headache and needed to go to bed. They never did get to eat.

Logan's cell phone is vibrating and brings him out of his fog. He looks at it. It's Honor.

"Hey, Honor." Logan answers the phone. They talk for a while. He told her that Rory was meeting with the event planner Wednesday. Honor told him she would get with Rory before then.

Rory had just hung up the phone with Lorelai. They were going over the agenda for Thanksgiving. Emily and Richard have not committed to visiting during Thanksgiving, but everyone else has.

Rory sat on the couch, with her feet on the coffee table. She needed to get up and unpack, but she didn't want to. She had just about come to the conclusion that she didn't have to do anything she didn't want to. No, that wouldn't work. What is it she has always been told? 'You come from two important families, do not embarrass the names.' Yeah, see how that worked out.

She thought back to the night the picture was taken. She and Logan met the gang for supper. Finn insisted they go to the new club opening. She enjoyed herself. She, Stephanie and Rose danced. Rory was drinking wine, she had a buzz going. That is until she runs into Amy and some of her friends. When Amy saw her with Logan, that just affirmed her thought that Rory was screwing her way to the top.

Amy accuses her of using Logan to get her job. She then accused her of sleeping with Simon and Mark. Rory was beginning to wonder when she would have time to screw them all. Logan tried to get Amy to leave, she was making a scene, but that only made it worse. Rory was so mad. She started throwing back Logan's scotch, then she moved on to Finn's drink.

Logan tried to usher Rory out before it got too heated, but the police had already been called. When they stepped out, because Rory was still screaming at Amy, they tried to handcuff her. It took Colin a good minute to talk the officer out of taking Rory to jail.

Apparently, the cops are not the only ones that got notified. When Logan was helping Rory out of the cab, the paparazzi was everywhere at their apartment waiting. Rory very seldom wishes she could redo a time in her life. She is a full believer of 'you are the person you are because of the things you have to go through to get to this point in your life.' but she wishes she could take the day back. From the beginning.
