Chapter 2: I choose you!

The young boy called Yagami Taichi, who had just turned 10 today, ran as fast as he could. It wasn't like anyone was after him, or he was late for something. In fact, he was quite a bit too early. But he just couldn't wait anymore to finally get his very first Pokémon. He had been excited to go on a Pokémon journey for such a long time and now that he was 10 years old his adventure could finally start.

When he arrived at Professor Oak's house and laboratory he rang the doorbell.

Nobody answered it.

He rang again.

After the third time, a sleepy-looking Professor Oak opened the door.

"Oh Taichi-kun, I take it you are here to get your first Pokémon. You are unusually early."

The 10-year-old boy was really excited and didn't even attempt to hide that.

"Of course I am! I couldn't wait for this day. I could barely sleep last night."

Professor Oak laughed. "Maybe you should sleep a bit after you got your Pokémon," he said jokingly.

"What are you talking about Professor? Do you really think I would go back to bed after I got my Pokémon partner? I've already packed all my stuff and I'm ready to leave."

Professor Oak nodded. "I know, I know. It was a joke. Oh, but don't forget to show your new companion to your family" he reminded the young boy.

Taichi nodded. "Of course not. Oh, and I should greet you from my mother" Taichi just remembered.

"Ah, thank you. Tell Yuuko my greetings as well", Professor Oak said.

"Ok, I will," Taichi said nodding and then added: "And? What about my Pokémon partner? Can I"

The young boy didn't even get to finish his sentence.

"Of course, you can. Come on, follow me. I'll show you the three starter Pokémon" the professor said and then they both went inside his laboratory, where three tiny balls that were red on the top and white on the bottom were lying on a pedestal.

Professor Oak went to the three balls and suddenly three creatures came out.

Each of the creatures was by far taller and bigger than the ball that they were in and Taichi had always wondered how this worked, but nobody could ever answer him that question. But for now, this wasn't of his concern. For now, something else was going on in his mind. One of those creatures, that were called Pokémon, which was short for Pocket Monsters, would become his partner today.

He looked at all three of them, even though he had already made up his mind a long while ago.

The three Pokémon looked back at him.

One of the three Pokémon was the grass-type Pokémon Bulbasaur and another was Squirtle, a water-type Pokémon.

But the one that Taichi wanted was Charmander, a reptilian fire-type Pokémon with a primarily orange body and blue eyes.

At least that's what it was normally supposed to look like. But this was a bit different. Instead of being orange, it was more yellowish and it had green eyes.

Taichi mentioned that to Professor Oak.

"Yeah, it seems to be a variant. Some call it a Shiny, but this even has a different eye color. It's even my first time I've seen a Charmander with such green eyes. It seems to be a very rare exemplar, maybe the only one of his kind. But if you don't want it"

Taichi interrupted the Professor. "What are you saying? Of course, I want it. It's sooo cool!"

Charmander seemed really happy as Taichi said that.

"Well then," Professor Oak said, looking at Taichi and Charmander. "Charmander, do you want to be Taichi's partner?" he asked the yellowish reptilian Pokémon with the green eyes.

Charmander nodded and made some happy sounds.

Pokémon couldn't actually speak, but even so, it was very clear that Charmander was very happy and excited to become Taichi's partner. The young boy kneeled down and embraced his new Pokémon companion.

When Professor Oak wanted to put Charmander back inside the Pokéball, Taichi told him that he'd rather keep his new partner out for a while and Charmander seemed to be happy to hear that.

"Now I have to introduce you to my little sister," Taichi said to Charmander and then the two headed back to the Yagami house, after saying goodbye to Professor Oak.

So, Taichi finally has a Pokémon partner.
What will happen on their journey?

Since I received some critics, that the descriptions of the mons would disrupt the flow of reading, I decided to do a "Monster-Analyzer" at the end of the chapters to describe the Mons for anyone who's not that familiar with them.

Monster-Analyzer:

Bulbasaur: A quadrupedal grass-type Pokémon with blue-green skin with darker patches and a green plant bulb on his back.

Squirtle: A small water-type Pokémon that resembles a light-blue turtle, with a shell that is brown on the top, pale yellow on the bottom, and has a thick white ridge between the two halves.

Charmander: A bipedal, reptilian fire-type Pokémon with a primarily orange body and blue eyes. Its underside from the chest down and the soles of its feet are cream-colored. It has two small fangs visible in its upper jaw and two smaller fangs in its lower jaw and at the tip of his slender tail, a fire burns.

Taichi's Charmander: A so-called "Shiny". Instead of orange, it is more yellowish and it has green eyes.
