A lone ship flew across the sparkling space. Inside, Rivet was in the pilot seat, steering with a groggy half-awake look. In a seat next to her, Kit was inspecting the Phase Quartz for any damage or defect it may have.
While there is no concept of morning or evening in outer space, for the lombax it was morning.
"It's great that the Fixer is almost done with Blazar Prime," Kit finally broke their lengthy silence.
Rivet was rubbing one of her eyes as she answered, "I'm amazed that he's rebuilding the entire planet. Maybe we should ask him to rebuild Scartsu next?"
Rivet and Kit stayed in Blazar Prime overnight, helping the natives of the planet to move back in. And in the morning, they got the Phase Quartz with the help of Fixer. Acquiring that crystal pretty much completed half of their job.
"Now all we need is some extra materials," Kit said as she put away the crystal.
"I have them back home. We'll get that dimensionator up and running in no time at all," Rivet spoke with rising excitement. And then finally they will find her people. Finally not the last of her kind. Finally a life among her own. Her imagination swam with possibilities of what life could be in a perfect dimension.
"I'm not so sure, the blueprints Clank gave us were quite complex."
"Aw! Be a little more optimistic! With two geniuses on the case, nothing can be too complex."
Their attention was drawn to the spaceship's transmitter because it started beeping with an incoming call. Rivet read the caller's address, "Phantom."
Kit leaned over and answered the call, "We are listening."
They were greeted by the sound of a bustling city from the other end of the call. What's more, there was a lot of static, like something was interfering with their frequency. But they could still hear the green alien through it all, "Yo! I finally got ahold of you guys. So check this out. A remodeling team was tearing up Emperor's palace and they said they found a secret underground entrance. When they went to scope it out, a robot appeared and took out half of them. He stole their demolition stuff, their money, and then took off towards-"
Rivet's eyes darted between the call and the window of her ship. "Have you checked it out yourself?"
"We haven't done anything yet. Little dude over here insists you should come in too."
"Who?" She momentarily lost focus and nearly crashed into an asteroid. "Whoa!"
Phantom spoke in a hushed tone, presumably so that the other one wouldn't hear him, "The guy from yesterday. Blonde, short, looks like he would break from a breeze."
Rivet sighed and nodded to herself, "Okay. We will be there in a few minutes." The transmission ceased. Her ears twitched from the mild annoyance that she felt right now. "Distractions, distractions..."
"What do you think it was?" Kit asked.
"Must be an Empire loyalist. We likely missed a few. That or this one was hiding and got found out," Rivet simply explained. She rolled her shoulders and continued with a confident smile, "Ready to bust up some bad guys?"
Kit nodded, "Locked and loaded."
"Next stop, Megalopolis!"
Corson V had problems with data connectivity. It was made painfully obvious by the lack of air traffic control. Rivet had to pull some insane maneuvers to avoid being hit by an oncoming trade ship.
The lombax set her ship not far from the Megalopolis city center. Once outside, they made their way to where Emperor Nefarious used to call home. The Emperor's palace was now a remodeling/demolition site with plans to turn it into a city hall for a new mayor after democratic voting procedures.
Rivet was still not used to seeing how things have changed in the once named Nefarious city. The bridge connecting the center to the city was built properly this time. No moving platforms, or a supermassive golden statue acting as a gateway.
Further down the bridge, by the city palace, they saw a lot of heavy machinery used for construction. That's where they spotted Phantom and yesterday's guest. Latter of whom had ditched his cloak but still had that strange rifle.
It seemed the two of them arriving interrupted their little chat. The human was first to notice them. He swiftly averted his eyes from Rivet and managed a meek, "Good morning."
Phantom was more forward and down to business right away, "What up! I tried dialing you earlier, but the connections are acting real funky since yesterday."
"We noticed," Rivet grunted, still angry at the jerk who wasn't looking where he was driving.
"Anyways, that demolition team over there said the robot blitzed them and snagged a bunch of explosives," Phantom further explained.
All four of them went over to the team of robots in charge of the site. But asides from describing the mystery machine as tall and thin, they got nothing else. Apparently, it ran away into the city and that was the last they have seen of it.
Meanwhile, Daniel took a peek at the crates of explosive material. Bombs were sort of his expertise. He carried several different kinds for when running and hiding fails him. And yet these bombs were different. They were created to corrode metal. He returned his attention to the others but did not speak up in fear of looking like a wannabe know it all.
Rivet tapped her chin while thinking what to do next. An unknown robot from an underground base and armed with explosives. That alone is dangerous, especially in a densely populated city like Megapolis. They had to find it before it decides to use them. "Phantom you go to the palace and try to find out more from that bunker or hideout whatever. Take the rookie with you."
Daniel perked up at that. That's not what he wanted. He wanted to go with her. "I..was...ahem! I was hoping maybe I could..."
"Yes?" She looked at him expectantly.
Daniel gulped and shook his head. It would've been too creepy to just attach himself like that. So he shyly resigned himself, "...never mind."
She could only raise an eyebrow at his indecisiveness. "Aha. Anyways, me and Kit will try and find our runner. With any luck, we will get to him before he gets the chance to use those bombs. C'mon, Kit!"
"Right behind you." The little yellow robot jumped into place on Rivet's back and they sprinted off in search of their target.
Daniel gushed with a dreamy look, "Man, she is awesome. I wish-"
Phantom tapped the human's shoulder, waking him from his daydream, "You wanted to come here, now you're here! Let's go, newbie bro."
"Do we have to run?!" The blonde called after him when Phantom dashed away with the help of some short-range teleportation device.
"I only saw some tall thing booking it like he stole something," was the answer to her question from a street shop merchant.
"Did you see where he went?" Rivet asked.
The small robot shook his head. "Nope. Wasn't paying attention."
So she tried another one. The lombax knew the mystery robot had to go through this section of city, for it was the one people take to reach Megapolis palace.
"I want to change up my goods. Gonna sell sand. It's coarse, it's rough and it gets everywhere. My brother over there sells brushes. Perfect strategy to rake in some bolts," a Blarg merchant prattled on while polishing his stall. He looked down at the smaller lombax who looked like she was done with life and continued, "I don't know anything about a robot though. There's a lot of those around here and they all look alike to me."
Kit narrowed her optics angrily and muttered, "Jerk."
Rivet went to a different stall again. This one had a floating robot. "Oh yeah, he was sprintin' alright. Looked kinda blue. Yep, definitely blue. Long legs too. Boy, what I wouldn't do for a pair of those, hehe. But that face, yuck."
"Tall, blue, and ugly. Gotcha," Rivet thanked the merchant who turned out to be more useful than the latter two. With the characteristics learned to some extent, she will have an easier time searching for him.
Or so the lombax thought. Just like that Blarg stated, there were a lot of robots in Megapolis. So many in fact that finding one among hundreds and thousands, if not millions would be impossible.
"It will take way too long to find him like this," Rivet complained while looking back at Kit.
Kit tried to stay optimistic, "We just have to keep trying."
"Looking for something?" Asked a thug from Goons-4-Less. He saw the lombax going around the marketplace and talking to people so he decided to approach her.
Rivet was surprised to see one of them. She thought these mercenaries returned to their own dimension. But if he was willing to help, she wasn't going to say no. "Yes. A strange robot. Quick on his feet, blue in color, ran past here. Did you see where he went?"
"Yeah. I saw a runner. Cost ya four thousand bolts to tell you where he went though."
"Can't you make a discount for a fellow fighter in arms?"
"That would be my bros. Not you. But fine, the price is seven thousand bolts, no less."
Her eyes widened in surprise, "You just went up!"
The reptile crossed his arms and refused to go into further negotiations, or admit that he was terrible with numbers.
"It's better than wandering around aimlessly," Kit spoke up from behind Rivet's back.
Right, there was little time to waste. Begrudgingly, Rivet took out her communications device. "For such a price, you better tell me every detail," she demanded, threat lacing her voice while transferring the requested sum of bolts.
Once the goon saw those zeroes turn into thousands, he was more than happy to talk. "I'll do you one better. A buddy of mine works in a junkyard. Before our call crashed today, he said he saw someone jumping the wall. Blue coat of paint and tall. Might be the one you're looking for." Before he could leave, he made sure to thank her. "By the way, thanks! This will be enough to get me back into bounty hunting."
"Yeah, good luck out there." At least the information was useful enough. Now they knew who to look for and where. However, they couldn't just head there immediately. Rivet tried reaching Phantom, but her device couldn't transfer the call at the moment. "Drats. Still on a fritz. I guess we're going back to get him manually."
"How come?"
"We will need Phantom on a lookout just in case." She explained while jogging back to the palace. Rivet didn't want to risk letting that robot go. So an extra pair of eyes will come in handy.
"Please, slow down!" Daniel called down the shaft he was climbing. Phantom was really quick when it came to traversing this place. His arms were getting tired too. The descent was taking way too long.
The resistance operative and the human had entered Megalopolis palace and soon after found the secret entrance described by the construction workers.
"Hey! How did you learn of this place?" Phantom asked from way below. He recalled Daniel mentioning a lab or something from yesterday.
"I spied on Nefarious for days sometimes," Daniel responded loud enough for Phantom to hear. Those times were a pain. He had to sit in one place without moving for so long. All in the effort to impress the resistance leader herself. Not that it mattered. He wasn't brave enough to venture here on his own, even when the Emperor's regime fell.
"We hit bottom!" Phantom announced as he reached an opening from the shaft. It was a straightforward tunnel, dimly lit by some dark green lamps.
Daniel jumped down soon after. He let out a small whine. His arms felt really sore after that climb.
"And how did you spy on him?" Phantom asked, more curious about that, instead of the place they were in.
Daniel pointed his thumb at the rifle on his back. "With this. It's not a weapon. More like a glorified toy. The only thing that's real is that scope. Which I used to spy on Emperor Nefarious."
Phantom adjusted his visor to night vision mode to see better in the dark. "If it's not a real weapon, why carry it?" He gestured for Daniel to follow as he took the lead.
"For intimidation." He never had to use it, much like the bombs he carried. "I'm not a fighter, always a runner. Matter of fact, I fear pain."
"Dude, I'm loving the honesty here," Phantom replied with a grin. Truth was, he wasn't an epic hero like Ratchet or Rivet either. Hence why he stuck with the shadows and behind the curtains work like sabotage. The green humanoid noticed that his companion is falling behind. "Bro, you good?"
Huffing and puffing, Daniel stopped walking completely. "You have to give me a minute. Geez." They were walking for quite a while now. It was cutting into what little stamina he had after that descent. Daniel stretched out his back with a groan and asked, "So, what's your name? Like, the real one."
"Shhh! We don't do that here." Phantom pointed at him, suddenly looking tense. "You got a name?"
"You heard me introduce myself yesterday. It's D-"
"Wrong!" Phantom said with more passion than he was known to show. Daniel even flinched in surprise. "Your name is Scout! No real names. Not in this line of work."
"Okay. But what about Rivet?"
"She's different."
"How so?"
"She's the hero and the leader."
"Gotcha."
A few minutes of silence had passed and after resting, they continued down the very long tunnel. All the while conversing out of boredom.
"Well, if you're talking about hobbies, I have nothing useful for contribution," Daniel said after taking a while to think about it.
"I'm still listening, Scout. Let's hear it."
"I like to...you know what? Doesn't matter. I'm new here. Tell me about yourself instead, mister Phantom."
"Don't we know each other for a good five months now? You don't gotta refer to me as mister."
"Technically no. We met very briefly when I delivered that data chip. And the time we had that short chat doesn't really count either."
"Oh, right." Phantom hummed in thought. Talking about himself was not something he did often. But given the chance and company, he might as well. "I helped with the resistance, made a lot of kick-butt bros, now everything is almost chill. I think I'll try hoverboarding next."
"Wow. That is...far out."
"I know, right?" He paused when he noticed something on the smaller human. "By the way, what's that behind your belt?"
"Hm?" Daniel looked past his hip. A metal hilt was sticking out from his belt. The wrappings on it were metal too. It looked old and scratched up. "That's-"
"Dude! Is that a freaking laser sword?! Let me see!"
Daniel pulled down his jacket past the belt to hide it properly. "It's not. It doesn't even work."
"So it is a laser sword."
"Yes. No!" Daniel hated himself for that response. He quickly averted the alien's attention by pointing down the tunnel. "Look! Literally something else!"
There was light at the end. It was enough to make Phantom focus on that instead of what he just saw. The humanoid whipped out a laser gun and told Daniel to stay close. Silently, they crept closer.
Two other tunnels went left and right from the front of the lit-up room. With no luminescent lamps in either one, darkness consumed both. So they avoided those.
Once inside the room, Phantom shut off his night vision mode and looked around. It was quite spacious, with a tall ceiling that fit inside many pipes and electronic machinery. But their nature was lost on both guys.
Further up ahead, they saw a metal table. And not too far from there, a console that was still working.
Phantom came closer to inspect it, with the human following close by. Daniel observed silently. He wasn't good with computers, so he just watched.
"What is this?" Phantom uttered with an uneasy voice.
"Mh?" The blonde inched closer to take a look. He only understood one thing that was on the terminal's screen. "Looks like a bunch of code. Very simple code."
"Yeah, I get that. It's a leftover command input or something. But that's not what got me wiged out. Check it." Phantom pointed at the last bit of code.
(locateClass){nefarious}
"That has many implications," Daniel said worriedly.
"Strange too. Nefarious bit the dust some time ago." Phantom mused with a growing sense of worry. "Someone was here. Someone clocked in that command. And I bet that code tells us what that mystery robot wants to do."
A noisy bang made both guys jump. Daniel even squeaked out of surprise. What followed after was a lot of metal clicks that echoed from the tunnel they came from. And the noises were getting closer.
Phantom took out another laser pistol, showing off a matching pair. "Sounds like we have company. Since you ain't equipped with proper weapons, I'll handle the-" His eyes snapped to where his companion was. The blond runt was gone like the wind or a ninja. "Wow," he said with genuine surprise. Exactly like in those cheesy action movies.
Moments later, Phantom received a transmission on his radio receiver. "You have several robots incoming."
"What the...dude, where are you?" Phantom asked as he looked around, but the human wasn't visible anywhere.
"I'm up top. Behind those pipes. Anyways, twenty robots came into this room. They are coming from behind those machinery units. Ten on each side."
"Thanks for the heads up."
True to his word, several robots appeared from both sides. They looked old and rusty. Strangely enough, they were broken in many parts and roughly put back together to achieve rudimentary functionality. How or why Phantom didn't know. Their design was from the early days of the Empire, so they were likely guards of this secret lab.
Since these were in such a sorry state, Phantom felt no need to retreat. Besides, this will be a good exercise. "You sure you don't want to get down here?" He spoke into his radio.
Even if his legs weren't shaking, Daniel couldn't fight. Not with a gun that shoots rubber bullets. He didn't want to waste his bombs either. "How about I try being your eyes in the back instead?"
"Heh! That I can work with!" Phantom raised his laser guns and unloaded on the enemy.
The lombax with her friend went back to the center of Megapolis. As she was jogging across the bridge connecting the palace with the rest of the city, she saw Phantom and that weird guy coming towards them. Good, now she won't have to waste time looking.
Phantom noticed that Daniel was in no shape to speak at the moment. That runt couldn't catch his breath properly after climbing up the long tunnel shaft. So he relayed their findings instead. "We did as you said."
"And?" She asked while glancing at Daniel. He looked like he was about to pass out.
"We found a bunch of active old robots. There was one other thing. A working console. It had one command that pretty much tells us what that robot is doing. Locate Nefarious," He tried to imitate a robot with that last line.
Kit shook her head in disapproval.
"Maybe that bot doesn't know about Nefarious's demise and is just frantically running around. Like a program stuck in a loop?" The lombax said. If that was the case, they could easily trap it.
"Maybe. We should still take it out. Just to be safe." Phantom was reloading his laser pistols for the upcoming round two.
"That tyrant is gone." Kit added her response too, "He couldn't find him. Matter of fact, why would that robot even try?"
"To bring Nefarious back?" Phantom suggested.
"That cannot be possible."
"Unless the runner knows something we don't."
Now they had to destroy it. Emperor Nefarious was gone, but what if he wasn't? Nobody wanted the 'if' scenario turning into reality.
Rivet pondered for a moment. Some things still didn't make much sense. Or rather, it didn't fit the ex-emperor's theme. He always relied on combat power, technological and numerical. He was egotistical and proud. Always sure of his victory and always winning despite their best attempts to stop him.
"See? I told you he had some backup plans," Daniel finally joined the conversation after recovering enough to talk without panting like a dog.
Crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes, Rivet spoke in a demanding tone, "Alright, blondie. What else do you know? We're listening."
"Uhm, that's just it. I knew of that hidden lab and that's all. If you want to know how I learned of it, it's no secret either. I was sitting by the Empe-" He nearly said it again, but stopped himself when he saw Rivet pouting. "-his palace and always watching him through the windows. Before you ask how, through this scope here. One day I couldn't see him anymore, but he didn't leave his palace either. So that's where I got that secret lab idea." And that was before his lengthy absence from the throne.
"You know, it kinda makes sense he made a backup plan. Those old robots down there were from a time when the Empire just began. That box of loose screws probably forgot all about it in the end," Phantom noted, quickly interjecting between what was soon going to be a very awkward situation for him. Did the Scout have no social awareness or what?
Rivet hummed in acknowledgment of her teammate, then she asked Daniel, "And you didn't come to tell us sooner because...?"
"I tried to find you, but then I heard there were like two of you? And you guys were being chased by Nefarious. Two of them too. And it looked like the world was about to fall apart with those portals. So, you know." His smile widened a little more, "Oh, speaking of which, where is the other lombax hero? I'd like to meet him."
"For crying out loud! Stop talking!" Phantom discreetly tried to gesture for Daniel to stop running his mouth.
Rivet narrowed her eyes. This guy was awkward and nervous too. In general, he didn't seem trustworthy. "He's busy at the moment. Is there anything else you want to tell us?" She asked, feeling more suspicious of the human while her gaze never left his face. There was one other thing that was bugging her, which made her tense.
"Eh, well...not really." Daniel felt his cheeks turn red. She was looking at him with those big beautiful eyes. It was impossible not to fidget.
"You didn't answer my first question either," Rivet said, her voice taking on a colder tone her usually warm and upbeat one.
"I thought I d-did?"
Phantom exhaled through his nose and braced himself. This was going to be awkward.
Kit could definitely feel how tense she got. The little robot asked her friend, "Is something wrong, Rivet?"
"Yes, there is something wrong. This guy right here would've kept us up to date where Nefarious was at all times. We would've avoided so many beatdowns before Ratchet and Clank came along. He even had the means to contact us." She explained calmly, but her voice was ice-cold. She didn't want to get heated before taking care of this robot runner situation. "And he didn't because why? He was scared of being found out by Nefarious."
The lombax looked him straight in the eyes as she said, "No wonder you never joined the resistance. You're as big a coward as they come. Congrats." After she was done with him, her gaze snapped to Phantom. "I found out where that robot went. The junkyard. I need you to come along and keep watch," she stated curtly, whipped around, and strode off.
Phantom rubbed his neck uncomfortably. At least that was over now. "Nngh...sorry, bro. I thought she was gonna let you slide."
"It's okay. I deserve it." There's a price for everything. Price for cowardice: Repelling girls. It was hilarious how he messed up before he could even talk to her. "On the other news, an outsider from another galaxy completely ruins his chances with his crush five months in advance."
"Wait. You? Her?"
Daniel managed a weak nod.
"Your chances dropped into negative digits. Let's roll." They wasted enough time as is. With the place known, it was time to get a drop on that robot.
Rivet -completely ignoring Daniel- pointed out that if that robot tries to run, Phantom should pursue at a distance. So they chose the tallest building closest to the junkyard and observed from there. Meanwhile, Rivet and Kit went on a hunt. Hopefully for the last time.
Magapolis junkyard. It was a depressing and creepy place to visit, especially for Kit. There were many broken and destroyed robots. All piled up in large mountains. Not to mention the massive metal crushing machines and magnetic cranes that cast shadows on the ground.
And everything was eerily silent except for a cold breeze blowing over the stench of old oil.
For Rivet, it was nothing but a great reminder of what the two of them are capable of. Mountains upon mountains of destroyed Empire troops. All thanks to their effort.
Wanting a distraction from the haunting visages of the broken machines, Kit struck up a conversation, "Don't you think it was a little harsh?"
"What?" Rivet had taken out the Lighting Rod. Great range, rapid-fire, and it will stun whatever escape attempts there could be. She had also had the Cold Snap on standby, for when the fight goes into closer range. "What I said back there? It was nothing but truth."
Perhaps they should focus for now. Kit realized that now might not be the best time to discuss what happened there. "I understand."
As they traversed the junkyard, further up ahead between two great piles of junk, they noticed an opening into a clearing much like a forest.
Rivet managed to squeeze through without Kit dismounting from her back. She immediately ducked for cover. She saw movement from the corner of her eye. Peeking from behind a discarded hovercar, she smiled victoriously. They found him. Their mystery target.
And it was by far the creepiest robot she's seen. Thin and gangly, antennas coming out of its back and head like spines. A head of vires that were spun into a ball. Adding to the creepiness value was its height. It was perched on top of a mountain of destroyed robots and garbage, overcast by the shadow of Emperor Nefarious statue that was thrown in here.
It was building a spaceship from the parts in the junkyard. And the way it was building it! The speed, the precision, and stranger still, many parts moved on their own to get into place. The ship itself was floating in place on working thrusters, which meant it was already operational.
"What the heck? Have you ever seen anything like this before?" Rivet whispered to Kit.
"No," She answered back in an equally low whisper, "He is building a spacecraft."
"...do you...copy...?" A call crackled from her transmitter. It was Phantom trying to reach them.
The moment Rivet pressed the button of her device to receive the call, the antenna on the robot's back and head moved slightly. It tilted its head a little, an act of peaked curiosity.
"Phantom, come in, we found our robot," She spoke in a hushed way. It wasn't clear if her words reached the other end.
Meanwhile, the creepy machine stopped moving. It slowly stood to its full height and raised its arm in the air.
"What is he..." Her attention diverted from the call. Rivet had to squint her eyes to see better from that far. It held a remote. It dawned on her, what did that robot do with the stolen explosives? "Oh cra-"
*Click!*
Rivet and Kit were thrown on the ground by the following explosion. The robot was setting off explosive charges in the piles of destroyed Empire troops. They were going off all around them like mines.
Kit transformed into her warbot form and scooped up Rivet from the ground. She turned her back in a nick of time when another pile of junk violently exploded and sent shrapnel flying everywhere like bullets.
Kit remained hunched over, shielding the lombax from everything. Even in her transformed state, she felt her casing tear and melt under the corrosive fires.
The explosions stopped and the last bit of metal fell from the sky. The ground was coated in a big layer of metal and parts. Kit looked around cautiously and then she set her friend on the ground.
"Rivet! Are you okay?"
"Thank you, pal. I need a minute." The lombax grunted while bracing against Kit's leg. Her head was ringing and she felt a headache coming on. "And you?"
"I sustained medium damage. Those bombs are designed to tear metal apart. But I will be okay."
She wanted to check up on her friend right away, but that will have to wait. The lombax glared daggers at the robot who did this. And the creepy machine silently stared down at them, without uttering a word. The singular eye in its head didn't even blink once.
"Alright, freaky! You are going down!" Rivet locked and loaded the Lighting Rod. Kit's arm plates moved back and two laser gun barrels popped out on each arm.
The antenna robot threw back his head and let loose a scream. It reached a crescendo when it turned into a roar like two boulders hitting each other.
"Holly molly!" That was not a cry of welcome.
"What is he doing?"
"He's not saying hello, that's for sure!"
All around the junkyard, every bit of metal began to vibrate. Twisting and jumping about, piles of junk, gears, wires began forming into shapes. In the span of seconds, all the garbage was given form. The amalgamation of parts, rust, and long-destroyed Empire robots stood as a legion of hundreds.
"Oooh boy!" Lighting Rod won't do much good now. Rivet took out some heavy-duty firepower, the Blackhole Storm. Just the thing to mow down groups of enemies. "What in the heck are these things?" She yelled over the joint gunfire of hers and Kit's.
The large warbot batted away a particularly big machine creature. Another hissing monstrosity jumped on her back. Rivet shot it down for her. "I don't know! It this state, they shouldn't be able to move!"
And while the two heroes were busy and distracted, the main perpetrator of this whole mess made his getaway.
Those thin legs turned out to be hydraulics, for the robot took off into the air with a single leap. Once atop its self-built spaceship, it let out one last scream and pointed its finger at Megalopolis. It then proceeded to board the ship and fly away.
"He's getting away!" Rivet pulled out the Headhunter. It was for extra long-range targets. Perhaps if she nailed one of those engines-
"Rivet! We have bigger problems!" Kit notified the lombax as she saw a complete shift in the enemies behavior. They ceased their attack and started to retreat from the fight.
The flood of stitched together junk, on all fours and some even flying, at breakneck speeds, went towards the worst direction possible.
She looked away from the scope of her weapon. In that moment the spaceship zipped away into the sky. Her ears dropped as Rivet felt panic rising from within, "Oh no. The city."
