Chapter 2 – Damn it to Hell!
As I made my way home, all I could think about was vampires, school, vampires in school. School with vampires. Why in the world are there vampires in school? As I think more, they're probably a few years older than teenagers. Why in the world would they repeat high school?
"Demented, that's what they are," I mumble to myself as I turn onto my road. I get out of my car and go inside my house. I toss my bag onto the couch and go towards my desk in the corner. I unlock it, (can't be too careful with the info it has) and take out my notebook.
"Well first notes, vampires in my high school. Possibly three as I heard them talking." Bella, Jaspar, and one other. This may be what my boss meant. He did say there may be more. I'll have to investigate tomorrow. It's Friday, least it gives me one day to see who was talking.
As I think more on it, I go make myself some coffee and sit back down to work on homework.
The next day I sat down towards the back of class. I managed to look at everyone that came in. All humans. Annoying girl Jessica blabbering as ever. Talking about Valedictorian blah blah, party at the Cullens, blah blah. 'Who are the Cullen's anyway?'
"Are you going December?"
"Uh what?" I ask, totally not paying attention.
"Huh, just as spacey as Bella. I asked if you were going to the party the Cullen's are having?"
'Bella,' Uh, I didn't know about a party." I confessed.
"Where have you been in the past two hours, that's all the school as been talking about. They're throwing a graduation party. The whole class is invited. No one has been to or seen their house. Well except for Bella. I still don't know how or why Edward picked her. She's not head of any clubs, doesn't do cheerleading…"
Jessica's voice fades out as I think over what she's said. Bella and Edward. Party at the Cullen's. Most likely it's these vampires. If everyone is invited, that means me. Time to snoop.
"I'll try to check it out. Not like I have anything better to do," I tell her. Satisfied with my response, she didn't bother me the rest of the class.
As lunch time came, I made sure to get to the cafeteria early and took a table that was as discreet as possible. I ate my salad and watched as everyone came in. I had a book to do homework. As everyone settled, I honed my hearing.
"A party Alice, really?"
"It'll be fine Edward, I promise."
"Yeah, that's what you said last time."
I looked up and saw a brown-haired girl. As I honed in, her voice didn't sound like the others. I sent my powers out to her only…. human. 'What the fuck, seriously, a human, alive around vampires!?'
I nearly vomited on the spot.
"Alice what's wrong?"
I look up to see Alice, staring off into space and the others looking concerned. While they were worried for her, I looked at them. Bella the human, Edward who was sitting next to her. Judging by what Jessica said, they're dating. Disgusting. He must have her dazzled or something. The other one sitting next to Alice, he seemed familiar. I've seen those curls before. That must be Jaspar. Just then he looked right at me.
Just then my world fell apart. I felt my soul split in two. I coughed up what I was drinking. I looked down heaving. I grabbed everything and ran. I didn't think, I ran to my car, got in, and took off. I just drove. I didn't pay attention to where I was. I kept driving until I realized it was nighttime. I pulled over to the side of the road and turned the car off.
"What the hell was that. I felt like I couldn't breathe." I mumbled to myself. Just then my tattoo burned. I looked at my wrist and it was glowing. "Uhhh, damn vampires, so not the time." I reached under my seat and pulled out my dagger. I pulled back my jacket and put it in the sleeve.
I got out of the car and walked towards the woods. My wrist burned more so I knew I was getting close. Once I felt I was deep enough I focused.
"I know you're there you creep. Come out." I looked around and saw a faint whisp. It tried to come up behind me, but I quickly turned and kicked. I hit the vampire and it went flying. I ran straight for it.
It grunted and ran. It stopped suddenly but I slid to a stop. It tried to grab me, but I took it's hand and twisted the arm. It yelled. Sounds like a male. He quickly twisted his arm back around and kneed me. He knocked me back, but I quickly got up and got my dagger out.
"Ok, truce?" he asked. I knew that voice.
"I don't do truces with vampires." I said readying my dagger.
"Come on Darlin. I don't actually want to hurt you."
I didn't move, "Jaspar?"
It was a full moon and the light filtered between the trees where we were standing. He walked into a stream of light, and I saw those golden eyes that split my soul.
"What the hell?" I breathed out.
"I could ask the same thing." He smirked but kept his eyes on the dagger.
I side glanced my dagger and then him and suddenly I was hit with a wave of disgust. Suddenly it disgusted me to think about killing much less hurting him in any way. What the fuck was wrong with me?
I fell to the ground confused.
He was there in a flash beside me but kept his distance. "Darlin, you ok?"
"I…. I just…..I'm so confused."
After a few minutes of both of us sitting on the ground he asked, "well, if you would allow me, I will take you back home."
I just looked at him. In his eyes. I saw my world in his golden eyes. I lost my breath.
He got up and put his hand out. "Do you trust me sugar?" he smiled.
I could get lost in that smile. I looked at his hand. This night has just gone to shit. I took his hand and he whisked me to my car and put me in. He drove and knew exactly what road to go down. I looked at him.
"I just barely started yesterday and already you know where I live? Creepy much?" I quirked my eyebrow.
He smiled. "You intrigued me darlin. When Edward couldn't read yer mind. Other than Bella, he could read everyone elses."
"Edward and Bella."
"Edward is my brother, so to speak. Bella is his mate."
"Mate?"
"Soulmate."
"I know what mate means. But there's actually such a thing?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Even for vampires?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"Even for vampires." He smirked and looked at me as he stopped in front of my house. "Now, tell me, obviously you're human."
"Good eye," I mumbled.
He smiled at my sarcasm. "How can you fight vampires while human. I've never heard or seen such a thing."
"Damn it all to hell," I breathed.
"Been there darlin, tell me. I won't bite."
I looked at him again and he had that stupid sexy smirk. That smirk did things to my stomach.
"Ohh! Stop that!" I huffed and got out of the car and slammed the door. I stomped to the door. I put the key in the door and stopped. I turned and he's still there by the car. I turned back and opened the door.
"Ughh, I know I'm going to regret this, come in Jaspar."
He walked up to me and motioned me to go in first. After I walked in, he walked and closed the door.
"Have a seat. Do you want anything?"
"No sugar, I'm good." He said as he sat down on the couch.
I sat down next to him and sighed. I didn't want to look at him. After a few minutes of silence, I looked at him. He was looking straight ahead.
"I won't force you. To tell me about yourself. I know you'll do it when you're ready."
"I don't know if your Southern accent is intriguing or annoying," I said. He laughed.
"Well, I really don't know what to say. It's not something I can really brag about."
"I'm not going to say anything about ya darling. I, me, myself, want to know. My family won't even know if you do not wish it. It's just me, and you."
I knew he was serious. Ughh, how can my life fall apart in a few hours. Because of one vampire. The one creature I'm sworn to kill, turns into one I cannot fathom to kill. For some reason a thought struck me. I looked at my wrist and saw the lotus. Not burning, no glowing…. anymore.
"How is that possible?" I whisper, shocked.
Jaspar takes my wrist into his hands and looks at my tattoo.
"A lotus?"
"Umm, yeah, it's, it's…"
"It's ok, just breathe."
"It warns me when a vampire is near, it burns and glows." I mumble.
"It's not now." He whispers.
"I know, I don't know why. You're a vampire, it should."
"December, what are you?"
I got up and walked to the front window and sighed. A few seconds I turned around. He was looking at me. Waiting.
"My name is December Skye. The last Vampire Hunter on Earth."
We just starred at each other for a few seconds until he said, "Oh, well, damn it to hell."
