Chapter 24 Elizabeth's Journal
Today is December 23rd 1919. It has been one month since Lucas and I were wed. Besides my first wedding and having Jack it has been the best month of my life. So much has happened in just a month. I could never have imagined when I met Lucas that he would turn out to be my lifetime love, but he has touched so deep into my soul, that I could never imagine my life without him. He is the best father to Jack and he loves him so much! He is the most amazing husband, so full of romantic gestures and passion. Everything he does is just because it makes someone else happy. He is the most selfless man I have ever met. I fall deeper and deeper in love with him everyday. Our relationship is so comfortable and easy, it's like we have been married for years. He just knows me so well. He knows when I'm mad, upset, sad, when to hold me, when to kiss me, and when to just listen and rarely do I have to say a word. When he is wrong, he always apologizes. I do love his apologies as I remember with a smile the night after the incident with Walden. There is not a time he touches me that I don't feel the depth of his love for me. It radiates off of him. Every touch is so genuine and heartfelt. His kisses are enticing; with every kiss I want more and more. He has the most expressive eye that I love to get lost in. They are gorgeous and dangerous all at the same time. Once he catches my glance they lock me in place and draw me in like a moth to a flame. Then he flashes that dimpled smile and I just melt. He truly is amazing in every way and I am so blessed he chose me and waited patiently for me.
Lucas's arm has been healing well since the whole unfortunate incident with Conklin. Now there is just a small hole where the bullet pierced his shoulder and he almost has his full range of motion back. He was called to testify at the trial against Walden and Conklin last week and thankfully that chapter is finally over. They are both going to jail for a very long time.
All of Lucas's business ventures are going very well which is really not a surprise to me since he has such a remarkable mind for business. The railroad practically runs itself and the plans are in the works to begin installing the track to bring the railroad to Hope Valley. What a difference that will make in our small town. The Queen of Hearts is of course doing well as this is a busy time with the festival and holiday travel. Even Gowen Petroleum is now turning a significant profit thanks to all of the hard work and dedication by Lucas. Of course he always gives all the credit to Mike and Gustave.
We had a significant amount of snowfall last week and it was so fun to watch Lucas and Jack building a snowman and making snow angels in the snow. They were so cute until Lucas hit me with a snowball and then tackled me with a passionate kiss landing us both on the ground laying in the snow, I shall never tire of his kisses and that is certainly one I will always remember, if I wasn't already on the ground my knees surely would have given way. That was a kiss I will choose to remember forever.
Our families have decided to stay until after our honeymoon. Our fathers are going to help run the businesses while we are away. Lucas is truly grateful to them for all of their love and support. They have been working out of Lucas's office keeping their own affairs in order. Our mother's are inseparable. They do everything together almost as if they were sisters. Oh how they love doting on Jack. Julie has been spending a lot of time with Alex getting to know him. I think she definitely has a huge crush on him. I like him but do worry because he has a very demanding job though.
Rosemary and I have been busy decorating the house. I am sitting in my new office right now enjoying the warmth and peace I feel being able to write in my very own space. I am still amazed at how thoughtful Lucas was to create this room for me. Rosemary and I have added some floral arrangements, artwork, and some of my things to make this room feel more personal. The desk and bookshelf truly are beautiful, made from Brazilian Rosewood; my Lucas has exquisite taste which is evident throughout our home. The sheer curtains she made for the main living room are beautiful. They are a coral color and really bring out the color tones in the walls of the house and look beautiful with the light shining through them in the big bay windows. This truly was the perfect color. They have really added an inviting ambience to our home. She is now making some throw pillows for the settees. She has also been working on making our bathing suits for our honeymoon. She laughed when Lucas told her no stripes remembering the story Lee told him about his. He didn't want to look like a felon.
Lucas, Rosemary, Julie and I have spent a lot of time working on the plans for the Christmas Festival which is well underway. We think it is even bigger than the one we had two years ago. Town is so busy with people coming from neighboring communities. Lucas doubled his food order this year so hopefully there will be enough to feed everyone, if not we know the people of Hope Valley will come through once again. This year's sled race was a wonderful idea. My husband truly is a child at heart.
Today is Jack's adoption ceremony and everyone is coming out to our home to celebrate. Lucas could not be more excited, he says this will be the second happiest day of his life. Jack already thinks of him as his father and still doesn't quite understand but that's okay.
Tomorrow is Jack's birthday also Christmas Eve. We are celebrating here with our families, Bill, Lee and Rosemary. Then we will attend the Christmas Concert and have the reception at the Queen of Hearts.
Christmas we will celebrate here and then we will be leaving on the 26th for our trip and returning the end of January. Julie and Jack couldn't be more excited. Lucas has finally warmed up to Julie after he got past her flirty and nosy personality. He has become more like her protective big brother.
I hear my husband coming down the stairs so until later I bid you farewell.
