Chapter 36 The Honeymoon Part 10

Lucas was now past the point of worry, he was absolutely distraught. The island was not that large. It was now past 11:00 and no sign of them. It was at this moment he was wishing Jack was not with him. He could not just leave and go look for them. He could not remember a time when he ever felt like this! Panic was overtaking his mind. He found himself pacing and his mind kept drifting to the what if's.

It was approaching midnight. He woke Jack and was ready to head to the midway to alert the police when the door opened, "Elizabeth!" He ran to her throwing his arms around her and kissing her forehead, letting out a deep sigh of relief. "Where have you been?"

"We were lost; we couldn't remember which bay we were staying at. We must have gone to ten different ones. I thought when I left I knew how to get back, but I was wrong. I wish I had been able to call you to keep you from worrying. I am so sorry darling for making you worry. Elizabeth said as she wrapped her arms tightly around her husband.

"Julie please take Jack. I'm glad you guys are safe." He handed Jack to Julie and they went to her room.

"I'm extremely emotional right now Elizabeth. Do you have any idea how much I love and worry about you? I had no idea if you were lost, dead, kidnapped, hurt. I was about to get the police involved. I can not describe the pain I was in. I had Jack so I couldn't just march all over the island looking for you. You are not going anywhere without me the rest of this trip, I should have never let you two go off on your own." He ran his hands threw his hair trying to calm his emotions while pacing back and forth. The tears started to fall uncontrollably, partly from being overwhelmed and partly from relief. "I'm going to step outside."

It was at that moment Elizabeth could see how much he worried. She wasn't sure there was anything she could say to take away the pain and worry he was feeling. She had never seen him cry and never wanted to see it again. She slid the door open and followed him onto the balcony where he was sitting in a chair; his cheeks were wet with tears and his eyes glossy. She took his hand and proceeded to sit on his lap, lifting his head so he was now looking her directly in the eyes, using her thumbs to brush his tears away.

She softly spoke resting her forehead on his, "I am truly sorry, I should have paid more attention during the tour. I love you so much!"

"I love you too! I've never experienced those feelings before and I don't want to go on without you Elizabeth. I would never survive if something happened to you or Jack. I don't know how you ever got over losing Jack, because I would never get over losing you." He said as he gently brushed his lips with hers, and embracing her tighter than he ever had before.

"It was you Lucas! You are the reason I was able to move on from Jack. I loved Jack, but Jack had a commitment to the Mounties. I love how much you love me and how much you show me that. Our love is deeper and more mature. Jack and I were young. I'm not that young innocent lady anymore. You and I connect on so many levels and being with you is so comfortable and real. As Rosemary put it you are my lifetime!" Elizabeth gazed into his soulful brown eyes filled with passion and desire.

Their immediate connection brought about a night of passion as they lay in their bed enjoying the comfort of being in each others arms and knowing they would never get tired of pleasing each other and experiencing the joy of being married and all the new experiences it would surely bring. Lucas draped his arm over his wife and softly kissed the back of her head while pulling her close, making sure she could not get away and they fell asleep.

Once again, Lucas awoke a few hours later, his breathing heavy. "Why do I keep having this dream?" He thought to himself. He slowly got out of bed, not wanting to wake Elizabeth, and decided a swim would do him some good. He quietly shut the door and

made his way to the water. The water was warm and very relaxing. He knew if anything could help ease his mind it was the water. He swam for about an hour and then headed back to the bungalow to try and fall back asleep.

Morning broke and everyone was up except Lucas. Elizabeth rolled over, "Darling are you going to join us today? You did tell me I wasn't going to go anywhere without you." She teased as she ran her hands through his soft hair.

"Give me just a few more minutes." He grumbled.

"Daddy get up!" Jack said as he leaped onto Lucas stomach causing him to let out a groan.

"Okay Jack, I'm up." Lucas was lacking even the slightest energy which didn't go unnoticed.

He took longer in the bathroom getting ready to go than usual which was already long enough.

"Lucas, darling are you okay in there?" Elizabeth shouted through the door.

"I'm okay," he responded but truth be told he had barely changed his clothes. His eyes were puffy and bloodshot, probably from crying, the early morning swim, and combined with the lack of sleep.

He splashed his face with water one more time, then ran the comb through his perfect soft hair and started his day. His appearance was definitely noticeable. Elizabeth and Julie both looked at each other with concern but didn't say a word. Elizabeth took her husband by the hand as they walked to the midway. They sat down to eat their breakfast, but noticed Lucas barely ate anything and said nothing the whole time. Lucas cleared the table and they headed to see the town doctor.

Jack was going to get his sutures removed and then he was going to get to swim. Lucas thought they would just spend the day at the beach and take a break so Jack could enjoy the water. They walked in and the doctor greeted them with the utmost kindness. He removed Jack's sutures and Jack was so excited. Then the doctor asked the ladies to step outside, "Now let's talk about you." He said to Lucas.

"Me?" Lucas asked confused.

"You clearly have all the signs of insomnia." He informed him. "So what is going on?"

"I keep having this same dream that my wife is really sick and I can't do anything to help her and I wake up in a night sweat." He told him in a concerned tone.

"It sounds like a premonition to me." The doctor explained.

"A premonition? Are you saying my wife is going to get really sick and my mind is alerting me to it?" He asked confused.

"Not necessarily. The mind is a funny thing. It may be telling you something is about to happen, but it doesn't necessarily mean she will get sick. It could be something good or bad." The doctor explained.

"That is not reassuring to me doc." Lucas said in a concerned tone. "I don't even believe in that sort of thing."

"I am going to give you a recipe for a calming tea that helps calm the mind. You can find all the ingredients here on the island and most eateries serve it as well. I have quite a few patients that come in here with insomnia and do quite well by drinking it. How much longer are you going to be here?" The doctor asked him.

"Five more days." Lucas responded.

"Drink the tea four times a day and come back and see me in three days." The doctor said as he was shaking his hand.

"Okay." Lucas walked out of the office to find Elizabeth and Julie staring at him.

"What was that about?" Elizabeth asked the concern evident on her face.

"It was nothing." Lucas replied in a quiet tone.

"Lucas, it is obviously something, you were in there for twenty minutes and might I add that your appearance this morning is more casual than usual. You didn't even put on your tie or your jacket and you left your collar unbuttoned. Tell me what is bothering you." Her tone was now demanding.

"It's just a little insomnia, the doctor told me to drink lavender tea. So let's go get some and then spend the day at the beach." He replied while giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.

They did exactly that. They went back changed and got some towels. Lucas lay out on the towel and slept while Elizabeth, Julie, and Jack swam. Jack was having a blast. Elizabeth and Julie were helping him learn how to swim. When everyone was tired of swimming they brought dinner back to the room and spent the evening just relaxing and watching the sunset from the balcony.
